During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. " to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Sadly, no.
Since Spiral opened up this weekend, it got me thinking of revisiting the series as a whole and maybe suggesting a Saw monster page. I know some people were ditched out of zero context or no one approved. Some of the people John Kramer tested could be considered the worse of the worst.
I don't know, the heinous standard for that series is high as fuck.
Not to mention, Offscreen Villainy may be an issue for some of the victims.
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM Draftswasn't there for it but I feel like that franchise probably got a thorough discussion.
~ACW It was decided Brian was a cut.
CM Sandboxes, MB SandboxesNo one counts in Saw. The heinous standard is to high. The only people to breach it also have redeeming qualities.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadEdit: My bad been discussed and rejected before. Couldn't find him when I used the search though.

While I do personally think he counts he has already been brought up and rejected.

Oh my bad.
I think we decided that Lex doesn't count due to his mind being warped by the Kryptonite poisoning.
Edit: Looks like that was just brought up. Ignore me.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadI checked the old proposal he was rejected for not being heinous enough, the kryptonite warping his mind is not even mentioned in the film.

CM Sandboxes, MB SandboxesAbstain to Lex Luthor
While one could make an argument that Gala-Gu's boss might have condone Gala-Gu's actions, its also made clear that Gala-Gu's atrocities were all his ideas and decisions to make, carrying them out on his own and not following anyone's orders. It's not like he saying that he's doing this for his alien race and making it clear by the characters and audiences that he's doing them out of racism and facism making him Social Darwinist who looks down on other races and believing himself to be superior for committing unholy actions, such as assimilating an entire innocent planet, to get what he wants.

Yeah it was made very clear he was aware that the krypotine was making him crazy yet he choose to keep taking it.
For future reference, Dolph, please don't blank your EPs unless we specifically ask you to.
My memory is bad. Yeah he's not heinous enough. My bad.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadI don't really understand why considering he was blatantly willing to let a meteor hit Earth killing many people and stop the heroes from stopping it so he could rule over whatever is left, but whatever if the thread thinks he doesn't count I will leave it.

CM Sandboxes, MB SandboxesAight, having finished my watching and brisking up on Galu-Gu's material from the Godzilla anime trilogy? I do think Psyche's points ultimately hold up, and Galu-Gu is a bit too complex to slap the label of CM on him.
As Psyche says, all of the Bilusaludo are in on the plan to assimilate Earth and willingly submit to the process of sacrificing themselves. Galu-gu and his partner Belu-be are the obvious leaders, but all of their men are totally onboard with the plan and willingly sacrifice themselves for the sake of it, with even one of the heroes defending Galu-g and Belu-be's sacrificing of their troops as something the soldiers themselves chose to do willingly, before said hero realizes the race's true intentions of course lol but still.
But onto his goals...ultimately, even though he has Fantastic Racism, I do think he believes what he's spouting that combining with the nanotechnology and assimilating is what's best for everyone to destroy Godzilla, and he seems to express genuine belief that Haruo will join him and see the logic of it. Nothing really gives off the indicator that Galu-gu doesn't absolutely believe he's working towards what's best for every party, even if he's being selfish and controlling about it.
It's also telling that Galu-gu shares most of the responsibility of his crimes with Belu-bu, and they seem to get along pretty damn well, with Belu-bu outright flying into a rage and dying trying to save and/or avenge Galu-gu's death. Galu-gu even faces down said death with steely resolve, just showing a look of disappointed stoicism that Haruo didn't see things his way and has ruined his plans.
It's definitely a more sketchy case than most, and I can see how some could see him as a CM given he's a Knight Templar type, but all in all I don't think anything he does squashes his goal being a well-intentioned one (showing a willingness to allow himself to be assimilated), and even more, he does seem to have respect at the least for Belu-be, his crew and possibly even Haruo, at least in my eyes.
So yeah all that is to say, I do think Psyche had it right on this one, and would support cutting Galu-gu.
