Greetings. This is the thread for requesting assistance with recovering a TV Tropes account for which you have forgotten the password.
Before posting here, please note that Get Known has a comprehensive set of instructions for managing your account. To summarize, password resets are limited as follows:
- If you have an associated email address, use the Lost Password link on the login screen to request a reset email. If that doesn't work, post here.
- If you do not have an associated email address but you are still logged in, you can register an email address and use it for recovering your password.
- If you do not have an associated email address, and have not used your previous account since September 18, 2013, we cannot verify your ownership for technical reasons.
- To verify ownership without an email address, and if you have used your previous account recently, you should be logged in on the same computer and/or Internet connection that you most recently edited or posted from.
- It is not currently possible for moderators to reset your password or change your registered email address. As a last resort, you may use our contact form to send a message to "The Staff".
Thanks for your understanding.

What about starsreachdown?
Momentum, a function of mass and velocity, is conserved between portals. In layman's terms: speedy thing goes in, speedy thing comes out.Hello. I was the troper "mantlemask". Is it possible I could get that account reset? I can't remember my password, though.
I tried the password changer for my old account, but it wouldn't show me the password.

"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerHow exactly does one go about that? I logged out, went to the "log in" page, entered my old username, a new password and clicked "Create Knowage". It still registers my IP. Anything else I need to do?
The Original mantlemask!Hmmmm, you didn't recreate it. Is it saying something like "only one IP per address"?

"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerIt's saying the message below when I try to "Create Know-Age":
Sorry, your IP address 49.144.175.63 already has an account. Please contact thestaff@tvtropes.org if you think this is an error. Please include the IP address in your email.
The Original mantlemask!Yeah, you got hit by an IP collision. Only one account can exist on every IP address. Can you recreate your account somewhere else, like a cafe or school?
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerNot right now, it's almost midnight over here. But maybe tomorrow. I'll let you know what happens. Thanks!
The Original mantlemask!I'll ask my sister to try to log in when we get home. Thank you!

Can you give me a new password?
I, too, have forgotten my password. Actually, I know roughly what it should be, I just can't seem to figure out exactly what it is...
My login on this computer works fine, but if the cookie ever goes away, I'll be toast. And I can't access the login on any other computer, either.
So, could some admin by any chance PM or email, or whatever, me my password? Thanks!

Hmm... that's odd: that's exactly what I had written down, that I'm nearly certain didn't work... Am I really that stupid?

Err ... I don't really have a complaint per se. More rather, just general confusion on how to use this forum platform. Its the first time I've encountered something like it.
Do we have a "Hello" or "test" thread where I could post a few experimental messages?
Also, are e-mail alerts possible on this board? Like if someone posts something new, an email gets sent to my inbox?

As far as I'm aware, the forums were designed from scratch by Eddie, so they are a little different to normal. You can make test posts in the forum sandbox thread, and the place for introductions and welcomes is here in Yack Fest.
Emails are not collected with your account so automatic notifications aren't possible, I'm afraid. Depending on how RSS feeds operate, hooking one up to a thread in some way might work. You can keep track of things through your thread watchlist; add threads to it using the button at the bottom of a thread's page◊.
Also note (though you may have worked this out by now) that for a while, you'll only be able to post once every ten minutes. Well, hope you stick around!
