Go To

This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.

If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.

The Forum Rules apply here.

Don'ts

  • Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
  • Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
  • Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
  • Don't post multiple times about your appeal if it hasn't been a few days since your last reply from us, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
  • Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

Not sure if y'all are aware of this, but Ask The Tropers is one of the pages we can't even access when we're suspended, so, uh, it doesn't do me much good when you tell me why I've been suspended on that particular page.

Hello. I have come to realise that I made a mistake with Justifying Edits, and I will try hard not to make that mistake again. I wish to know when my suspension may end, so that I may add entries onto Wild Mass Guessing

I'm "ranting" here because this is a forum, not the main wiki.

And I don't actually dislike Firefly. It's not even half as great as its fans think it is, but it's an entertaining show with some good characters and snappy dialogue. There's a difference between knowing something is not realistic (and being annoyed when its fans nevertheless insist it is) and disliking that thing. I admit I myself sometimes blur that line, and lash out a bit.

I'll certainly be more careful about letting my particular pet peeves influence what and how I trope about it, because I did take it a bit too far. I concede that, and I apologize. Is there a "Tropers Have No Sense of Scale"? Because, well, yeah.

PS. I certainly focus specifically on Firefly's use of, e.g., the Anthropic Principle, Rule of Cool, and other instances of Artistic License and even They Just Didn't Care, but I readily concede that they apply to all works, even ones I like/approve-of-as-a-hard-SF-killjoy far more than Firefly. Is there a trope for Most Fiction Is Fiction, i.e. that works are never perfect, being limited by the circumstances of their creation? As in, "Firefly was a weekly TV show, not a novel that took years to write"? Because both I and every Browncoat on here could probably stand to keep that in mind.

May I know the reason for my second suspension?

@ Shizu: You have been un-namespacing namespaced works and making a lot of mess for everyone else to clean up. You are also prone to Word Cruft.

Done. Read all three. I'll rein in or at least confine to the proper forum my tendency toward long-windedness, among other self-corrections I noted to be addressed.

(dons pedant's cap)I have to say this, even if it gets me another spell in stir: One does not soapbox about a subject one feels strongly about, one climbs on or gets on one's soapbox, to cite two usage examples. "Soapbox" is a noun, less frequently an adjective. Words that are not verbs do not magically become verbs simply by being used as such. (removes cap, resumes identity as mild-mannered sciolist)

redjirachi: Your suspension will end as soon as you are sure you will not slip into Justifying Edits and Thread Mode again. It is not a timed issue, but a matter of editing properly.

Can you edit properly from now on? If you do, I will lift the suspension.

I am aware of my mistakes. For example, if someone has a trope entry of something, I will not rush to explain why it may or may not apply. Or just plain old chat about something, when that really belongs in either the Discussion or Forums. I remember that is a mistake, so I will make sure I don't do it again

why am I suspended? I wasn't being rude about the Den-O Multiform Balance thing; all I said was to try WATCHING the actual series, so they can actually see Wing and Sword Form's show of powers.

Tone is as much a part of rudeness as wording. There's an implied "You don't know what you're talking about, so shut up" in your edit reasons.

@Hydronix: You're a great person. You always try to see the best in everyone and everything, but you are too nice and too lenient on things that really do cross the line. You're just too soft and sweet for Content Violations and it's starting to get in the way, but we enjoy having you around the rest of the wiki. You're just the wrong sort of personality for Content Violations.

...I see.

-sighs- I always look through it at a pure neutral view and make sure it has problemsome content before judging. I'm not interested in "killing stuff with fire" unless it really deserves it. I also do not wish to cause trouble.

Sorry for the inconveniences. I guess I'll do what I planned to earlier, stay off the Wiki-side of the forums. Since I don't appear to be of any help, then.

You might be a help in other subforums; just not that particular one.

Maybe you should take a look at TRS or IP, if you haven't already.

I'm no good at those. I'll read the Wiki Talk as usual, but the only thing I really was good at was giving stuff in the Violations area. I read a lot of stuff and am fine at presenting the information without any bias.

Which is honestly one of my few good skills. I appreciate the offer, but it does nothing for me. I do what I can. If it doesn't work, then that's fine. I accept it. See you guys around, I guess.

Long story short, I have no useful skills outside of that forum. Which... is what it is. So I sadly can't do much to help. I still update webpages, etc. But that's all I can do now. Now that that's out of the way, see ya for realz this time.

I'd really like a response.

I've said I'll be more circumspect in troping that topic, and apologized for getting out of hand.

Is there some further reason I haven't been unbanned yet?
