Ok, seeing as the musical idea probably got some peoples imaginative juices going, I'm creating a general thread for some ideas for an RP based around Dragon Age, be it musical, plot-based, or some other adventure!

So, ideas for how to get this started?

The term "Great Man" is disturbingly interchangeable with "mass murderer" in history books.

Well, we need a warden at least... unless we're not taking the Origins plot. If not, we'll need characters at any rate. Its a place to start.

Do you intend to use the Dragon Age pen and paper RPG? Or a more free-form style?

Hmm, I don't have the tabletop version. Does anyone have it? My plan was just to do a free-form.

Freeform is good. Who wants to run it?

alright, I have got these:

  • Abomination experiments by a Mad Scientist Evil Sorcerer that result in magician-swordsmen with One-Winged Angel forms.
  • Darkspawn Ghouls who have been able to survive by eating other darkspawn, resulting in a new breed called The Darkspawn Mordarg, which is more human, but more of a Humanoid Abomination, can talk, and can seem to mind control lesser darkspawn.
  • More experiments by above mad scientist evil sorcerer into the fountain of youth...and its reversed form!
  • Parallaxus, a big dragon and what happens when a male drake/dragon gets big and mean enough after living long enough. Currently the only one of his kind. Sealed evil in a...big cave, due to magic.
  • Mordius the Imperator, a Knight Templar bent on purging the land of the Darkspawn...and all traces of them!

Several of those could be weaved into a wonderful campaign.

First question. (it relates directly to how I'll write up my character, or even what character I'll choose.) How long after the blight do the events of the story happen? Do they happen during the blight? Or before it? A long time after?

Well I was under the impression Nick was going to be our GM. Its essentially a free-form role-play set in the dragon age verse. At the moment though, we don't even have much of a setting, only some plot ideas.

alright, I am gonna GM this then!

-puts on GM Hat-

alright, we are gonna start this in a Blight in the main story line in the first game, maybe going into the second one. We are going to make OCs whom are going to be found by whomever is playing the Gray Warden or Wardens and make a little party to go around to some original villages and towns with dark secrets and solve stuff, as well as the main story.

Beware, though, in between my ideas and the High Octane Nightmare Fuel already present, you may want to prepare yourself.

How about an exile dwarf who somehow survived the journey through the deep roads?

yes, this was originally going to be the dwarf noble, a hypothetical situation if the noble didn't meet Duncan but survived the deeps anyway, but then you said OC, so it sort of a "This is the closest thing I got" sort of deal.

  • Name: Balor. (Second name a closely guarded secret.)
  • Age: 30
  • Family: Immediate family all dead. Brother named Felor.
  • Background Type: Dwarf Noble
  • Magic and Abilities:
    • Personal Characteristics
      • Favoured Opponent: Darkspawn, Dwarf Noble.
      • Tunnel Sense: Can detect enemies by echoes, reflections and other signs extremely well in tunnels.
      • Paranoia: Balors paranoia makes him harder to ambush, and gives him something of a sixth sense in combat when enemies try to flank him.
      • Dirty Fighter: Never one to fight fair, Balor gets an even greater advantage if his first action in battle is to attack a foe from behind.
    • Racial Characteristics
      • Magical resistance: Balor may completely ignore the effects of a spell one time in ten.
      • Lyrium Resistance: In case of lyrium poisoning, Balor won't be as affected as another character.
    • Warrior
      • Kneecapper: A long horizontal sweep at the legs of one or more enemies in an attempt to sweep them off their feet. Can attack up to three small enemies at a time. Attacking multiple enemies reduces power and accuracy. Works best with the great axe.
      • Disarm: Launches an attack on an enemies arms or hands to get their weapon off them. Single target only. Works best with a single-handed axe
      • Headshot: Instead of aiming for the central mass of a foe, Balor takes aim at the attackers central nervous system. It is an inaccurate shot due to the smaller target, but if it hits, good night!
      • Coup De Grace: If Balor can get an armoured opponent on the ground, he can attempt to finish them off instantly by a quick dagger strike in the weakpoints of the armour.
  • Weapons and Items: Greataxe, ancestral sword and shield, small dagger, shortbow.
  • Personality: Focussed and implacable, Balor is rather paranoid and distrusting due to what happened to him back in Orzammar. He'll challenge the ulterior motives of everyone he meets, and will never quite trust anyone fully. Beyond that, Balor despises darkspawn and dwarven nobles equally. He has a soft spot for the downtrodden however, especially surface and casteless dwarves. He treats nobility with suspicion, but will begrudgingly work with them.
  • Likes: Outcasts, especially dwarven casteless and surfacers. Has a soft spot for poorer folk in general.
  • Dislikes: Casted dwarves in general, non-dwarven nobles.
  • Despises: Dwarven nobles, darkspawn.
  • Background and Bio: Balor was a champion of the casteless cause in Orzammar and supported a reconciliation with the dwarves of the surface. Despite rubbing the council the wrong way in this regard, he had won considerable favour with king Endrin and was being considered for a command. Winning considerable honour in the deep roads, Balor was hardly ever seen in the assembly except on issues regarding the casteless, preferring to focus on the darkspawn instead. He was extremely successful in this regard. It earned him the suspicion of the council however.

That changed abruptly three years ago when Balor came home to find his family dead at his feet, including two children aged nine and six respectively. His brother, Felor, then came in, with a squadron of dwarven warriors, and accused Balor of doing the deed, arguing that the stress of fighting the darkspawn had driven Balor insane. With Balors unpopularity in the council, it wasn't long until he was exiled to the deep roads.

Balor somehow managed to fight his way through the deeps to emerge, half dead, out of an old abandoned dwarven city far to the northwest. The betrayal had a negative impact on the mans mind, and he was left extremely paranoid and untrusting, as well as having a vindictive hatred for the nobles who cast him out. Mostly working as a mercenary, Balor has gained considerable tactical expertise. A sneaky commander and powerful warrior, Balor does not believe in fighting fair, and his tactics may resemble that of a rogues rather than a warriors at times.
