So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?
My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.
I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

, a Black Mage would be great. I would also much rather have a playable Chocobo than playable Sephiroth. Either of those two represents the franchise better and would be more unique.
Again, though it has its faults, for me FFXIII is not a bad game at all. I enjoyed it more than not.

Funny, I see no one mentioning Cecil or Bartz as potential characters. God damn, they are in two of the most popular Final Fantasy games and the real symbols of SNES RPGs.

I think of the three SNES F Fs, Terra's game is the most popular truthfully.
I've come around to Bartz and V after seeing a play through of it on youtube however. I'd love to see it get a re-make.

...I kinda like his design for Faris (it definitely does the woman trying to look like a man thing better), but I mostly agree with that. His singleminded propensity for blondes and silver haired pretty boys kinda irks me.
I've made my dislike of blonde haired Terra very clear: the green hair works better for making her look exotic (but then again, blonde hair is very exotic in japan, so I get why it stuck).

My problem with Amano's art is how radically different it is from the game sprites. You just need to see the portraits in Final Fantasy V clashing against the sprites to understand what I'm saying. I get grossed out every time I see Bartz in Dissidia because Nomura preferred to send his love letter to Amano rather than respect their games of origin (despite Bartz having his Freelancer attire as an alternate costume).
Amano's art is not the way I saw the characters on Final Fantasy V and VI. But I could imagine a cloth transition for FFVI characters between World of Balance and World of Ruin, like Locke starting with his SNES attire and shifting into his Amano/Dissidia NT style.
Amano's style isn't bad per se, but the way it clashes against the final material is.

Terra's green hair is iconic. I do like how many different outfits the cast of 5 gets with their jobs. I saw a neat vid once comparing the gradual bishonaning of the FF male leads over time and how a lot of female fans wouldn't mind a return to the hunkier builds.

Where would we all be without the Don Tonberry trick. I'm currently attempting to make my main three fighters - Tidus, Auron and Rikku - worth a damn in the de factor post-game of FFX with all the obscenely powerful monsters.
I got the 99 Doors to Tomorrow and was trying to figure out what AP > Overdrive could be good for. I thought Warrior and Demi would be great. Constantly doing 9999 damage and all. It was...underwhelming. Then I Google and find out about the Don Tonbery trick and now Tidus has 00 S Levels and Auron and Rikku will be joining him soon. Honestly, Double and Triple AP isn't even needed.
What is needed, sadly, is Dark Matters. And Gil. I got Godhand of coure because it's easy but I do not foresee me getting Tidus' full power Celestial Weapon so that leaves me to try and get at least one Break Daamge Limit for him. Gotta craft my own ultimate weapons. That requires oodles of items and money though, farming Mimics with Gillionaire giving me 100K a pop seems the easiest way at present.
But man, lots and lots of work ahead of me before I can beat anything.

I find it weird to see people slagging off Amano. His art isn't my cup of tea, to be sure, and it certainly doesn't translate to the in-game graphics, but I don't have it in me to say it's actually bad, because, well, it's subjective, and I can see why others would like it.
I for one think Amano's art is absolutely stunning. Though I kinda see why some people would dislike it.
I don't really care for the character designs of the sprites in V so much, Opera Omnia's designs look nice for them so I really wouldn't mind seeing any of them appear in Dissidia in full that way.
Well except Krile, a fourteen year old girl in a leotard isn't my cup of tea.
