I Never did finish V. After Deborah left the party I had little will to continue playing. Her party talk was amazing.

I beat V with all three wives to see all the different dialogue. Each of their pre-final boss party chats were amazing.

V is interesting to look at in the current era of RPG's where "waifus" and social sim elements have gotten more popular. I appreciate that it lets you get married and be an actual father to a pair of children, if only in a relatively primitive way.

I would like to say I totally did believe the "Bianca's life is ruined if you marry Nera." Rumor. I remember reading about that on the primeval internet where NES roms where considered the height of tech and everyone was sad the PS 1 remake of IV never landed in the west.

Of course my heart absolutely belongs to Debora so I'm happy it isnt true. Of course going from epic adventurer to innkeeper is still a downgrade. Clearly if they make 5 again there should be an option to pair up Bianca and Nera with each other.

Dragon Quest: Your Story is definitely an adaptation where people unfamiliar with the work will be very off-put by how much it rushes through, and people familiar with the work will be extremely pissed after it's done, pleasing nobody in the process.

But it did make me want to play V since it's been ages and imagine a version of this movie that wasn't bogged down by its writing because the art style looks so good. Well at least on the monsters and scenery, I'm still not sure how well Toriyama's human designs fit into the cartoony realistic look the film went for.

You are partnered with an AI with good attacks for that, levels don't matter much beyond the 'not dying' level.

Say, was DQV the first RPG where your character choosing a love interest was a major part of the story? That's become such a standard now in both Japan and the West, and I know DQV was pioneering in a LOT of ways so I wondered if this was one of them.

Jumping back to an old topic I brought up, do you guys think that the upcoming Dai no Daibouken Video Game may give its characters a shot at future Crossover Spin-Off Games, like Dragon Quest Heroes III or an Itadaki Street game?

The Goddess Hoakari. She's one of three gold palette swaps of existing monsters to have some sort of plot role in Joker 3. The silver version she's swapped from is the Metal Goddess Slime.

Thank you. Do you also know if any-*ahem*-"monsters" from the Slime Morimori Dragon Quest series besides the Schleiman tank make an appearance in the Monsters series? I for one would love either the Gott Schliemen and/or Flucifer. On a related note, I'd love to see Slival make a Playable appearance in an Itadaki Street game.

So while not a big Dragonquest person (I played a bit of VII years ago), I decided to check out Your Story.

Despite knowing it was speeding through the plot, I was actually kind of enjoying it....right up until the big twist. That kinda killed it.

Oh Isekai. You make everything worse. You've even ruined the stories that are part of your genre but predate the concept as it's known now.

I'm just gonna pretend that twist never happened. I rather liked it before that.

The movie flopped after its first weekend in Japan for that reason.

I think the fact they intentionally built up to that twist makes the foundation inherently much worse because rewatching it, that's the only payoff they want to work towards and puts a sour taste in my mouth.

The pushing Bianca super hard bit in the first third was where I was like "oh. they actually put thought into seeding this dumb twist" and had to stop watching for a bit because of how annoyed it made me.

I'd love to see a DQ game in the future that takes inspiration from some of its art style because I'm never going to get over how good it was to see all the DQV locales and monsters like That and how gorgeous it overall was.

What was the twist?

Made my first Final Boss in my new Joker 2 run - Malroth! He's one of my favorite boss designs in the series (second to Nimzo), and he's just as strong as I remember him! He eats Metal Slimes for breakfast, in particular.

YASS! And after like three hours today and Goddess knows how many brutalized Metal Slimes, I've made by first Rank X and favorite boss in the series, Nimzo. I wanted him and Malroth before going off to fight Malevolynx, who I'm probably now over-prepared for.

Hilariously enough, watching the movie made me decide to check out a Let's Play of the DS version of Dragon Quest V myself.

The player just met Bianca again. I don't have a problem with her, but I'm kinda wondering why they bothered with giving you a choice if the game clearly stacks things in her favour?
