I'm fine with restoring the Visual Novel.
Yeah I'm fine bringing back the censored version.

Stan GaruKaru for clear skinThere seems to be an overwhelming case of restoring the page, albeit with the censored version only. Anyone else willing to chime in their opinion?
MB Pending | MB Drafts | MB DatesSo say we all. Though if someone wants to check out the uncensored VN, I'd be open to hearing from them on whether the "decent plot aside from the H-scenes" qualifies it as Porn with Plot.
Edited by Ramidel on Mar 11th 2024 at 1:05:50 AM
From what I've seen Taimanin is kind of similar to the plot of Don't Meddle with My Daughter!, with a strong heroine fighting monsters, often through sex. If that manga is approved on the site, I don't think troping the Taimanin Asagi VN with sexual content would be problematic in principle.
However, I haven't read it so I don't know if the Porn/Plot ratio is too high.
Even if we were to take the canon route, the ratio would still be 50% at the minimum.
MB Pending | MB Drafts | MB DatesJust to clarify, this is JUST for the first Asagi VN? It has several sequels and spinoffs focused on different Taimanin, such as Taimanin Yukikaze and Taimanin Murasaki.
This is Idol Tap. (My Troper Wall)Yes. I plan to cover Yukikaze when it gets an overseas censored release on Q2 2024.
MB Pending | MB Drafts | MB DatesBumping this one more time, just for clarification: While there is almost 100% support for keeping the Censored version, some have said that the porn isn't problematic enough to be troped. Does anyone agree with this or not?
Edit: autocorrect somehow changed censored to uncensored for some reason. I didn't notice this error until now.

MB Pending | MB Drafts | MB DatesAfter checking the VNDB profile of the Visual Novel , I'm more doubtful than before since it indicates quite a few demerits.
Firstly, the description only talks about the titular protagonist getting violated in a depraved arena. Then, the tag 'Nukige' (which means 'fapping game') appears highly voted and next to things like 'High amounts of rape', 'Monster rape' or 'Long sexual scenes'. In other words, the plot might be non-existent or just an excuse for fetish content. Some VNs like Funbag Fantasy Series and Rance have high sexual content but aren't considered nukige neither in TV Tropes nor in VNDB. Lastly, 8 out of 10 screenshots at the bottom of the VNDB page show explicit content.
Another consideration is the publisher Shiravune. They cut almost all content of nukige and get these stub releases up on Steam. I don't know if that's the case for Taimanin Asagi or if the censored version can be completed from beginning to end. In the end, we should ask someone to play and compare both versions.
I see. That being said, I heard that the steam version didn't just remove the sex scenes, they pretty much removed every ending that wasn't the true end, probably because the other end pretty much consist of porn, just wanted to remind you. I'm not even sure if we accepted streamlined versions before if they only focus on the canon routes. Also, are you sure that Shiravune is really doing this practice? Because I really don't know much about them at all.

MB Pending | MB Drafts | MB DatesYeah, some Shiravune Steam versions are self censored releases taken to the extreme. If you get them you can only play the few first minutes of the VN before needing to download the +18 patch. One example is Kuroinu.
It has also happened with other titles that aren't nukige/pure porn such as The Shell.
Yeah, I'm going to vote cut clean version only for being a porn game with an Excuse Plot.

It hasn't come up, actually.
My personal ruling would be: Steam versions are official versions (though Steam doesn't censor anymore) and can be troped on that basis, unless the game is basically unplayable without the 18+ patch (I've seen censored versions of games that are crippled enough that I'd call bullshit on there being an "unpatched version").
The line between a censored release and a "DIY gun kit" release is open to interpretation on a case-by-case basis. That's what we're here for.
Edited by Ramidel on Mar 13th 2024 at 8:36:28 AM
Just asking, what is the definition of "unplayable" in this case? Is it "you can't achieve any of the endings unless you install the patch" unplayable, or "some routes were cut, but those were the bad/non-canon ends and the ones left intact is left censored but at the very least playable" unplayable? This is my first time engaging in a case like this.

MB Pending | MB Drafts | MB DatesThis is the first time it's come up, so you're not alone.
My preferred answer is "I'll know it when I see it." For comparison, if we were talking about a game called Horny Racing where you raced to get porn pictures, and the censored version was Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing, I'd call that unplayable.
One case I personally remember is Holy Road, a game by Kagura Games that combines a city-builder with a bishop who likes to personally help his female parishioners "atone for their sins," and several scenes pop up when you take certain builder actions. In the censored version, you click an action...and nothing happens, not the action, not the scene, you just get a blank screen and then the next month screen. That's what I would call "unplayable without the patch."
For VNs, I'd say that if you're unable to get past a short demo storyline without the patch, that's unplayable. If it makes it all the way to the true end, that's probably tropable.
I see. The censored version at least makes it to the True End, and is still at the very least tropable.
MB Pending | MB Drafts | MB DatesThen allow the censored version of the VN.
Prior to this website having namespaces, the main version of Taimanin Asagi was cut by 5P for being hentai. However, later on, I heard that it got an proper Western release, albeit heavily censored (the uncensored version is on Johren). From what I've heard and seen, it has a pretty decent plot if you ignore the H-scenes. Also, the OVAs are not considered to be canon to the whole Taimanin franchise, so we can safely ignore them as the OVAs pretty much ramp up the hentai element.
