Haven't read or seen it, but judging by the description it's a seinen manga with heavy BDSM themes where most of the characters are 14 or younger, and the anime even has explicit nudity.

Not sure what to say of the anime given that it's currently airing, but the fact that it's on HIDIVE is one thing.

No opinions on manga as well. Abstaining unless someone is willing to go through both the manga and anime.

I think this nomination is premature. I'd rather wait until this anime season ends, cuz I feel that only then can we properly pass judgment.

If it breaches the content policy, we don't need to wait 'til it ends before sending it to PRLC.

If it doesn't currently breach content policy, we may need to revisit once it ends, as suggested.

Before you guys complain about the PRLC, the page for it has a folder for pages that are too numerous in number to be in their own folder. Pages that violate The Content Policy are in that folder.

And following on what Mrph said, it's not like we can't revisit such pages down the line. A few months back Hoshizora no Memoria was restored after it was determined to NOT violate the policy, and it currently looks like the same might be said for Katahane.

...Ok, I decided to take a short glance at the anime since I heard that it some gets a bit more gritter down the line.

From what I'm seeing, it hasn't downright crossed the line where we need to take action, but it's on an field of uncertainty so far.

Let's focus on the work on subject.

Not going to give judgement before full research, though it is suspicious and even if played for laughs, the jokes from first few chapters are kinda edgy.

From the example list:

  • Hotter and Sexier: Impressively enough for an adaptation of a manga that's already pretty raunchy, the anime manages to go even further through things like showing uncensored nipples, and giving extra focus to the more salacious scenes, even adding new stuff to them. Examples include having Leopolt not only straddle Baiser during their fight like in the manga, but also rub herself on her, and showing Venalita's recruiting of Leopolt happened when the girl was stripping down nude to photograph herself out of desperation for online attention.
Out of differences:
  • The very first episode averts top Barbie Doll Anatomy used in the manga in first three minutes. Everyone being 14, it's already enough of a red flag to me. But let's go on I guess??
  • The anime adds upskirt shots and rubbing both at the top and bottom when magical girls are attacked by the tentacle monster.
  • The anime adds the classroom changing uniform.
  • Azul getting groped by Baiser is extended.
  • Sulfur receives more Clothing Damage from a candle monster.
  • For some reason Leopolt rubs Baiser while sitting on her and has less clothes.
  • Beating up bound magical girls adds fiddling with breasts.
  • A new scene with slime tentacle.
  • Two magical girls are hypnotized to treat the third one as a "mommy". In the anime this isn't limited to breasts and just one step away from lesbian sex.
  • The imaginary scene of Baiser "playing but not playing" doctor by the school's nurse isn't censored and has more touching.
  • New scene of magical girls being defeated by bugs with clothes-dissolving silk.
  • Magenta getting turned into a baby, then transforming back when Alice is about to change her diaper.
  • New Sayo's shower scene.
  • Sayo's being being tied to a park saddle is now an illusion of those medieval "horse" torture devices.
  • The new adult villains of course would have jiggle physics. And more skin.

At least definitely cut the anime version. Manga version is on edge because it's not explicit, but it still has a large amount of gratious teen nudity so I wouldn't miss it either.

Yeah, I can see where this is going. Being on HIDIVE probably won't save it now. Only trope the manga for now.

I'm fine with manga only if the only difference is extra fanservice.

Besides, the example Too Hot for TV mentions a more censored anime version for general broadcast, so I'd also go with that.

[up] I'm not sure if there's a censored one. Got any sources?

I checked the Japanese Wikipedia page. There are apparently 3 versions of the anime, each with different levels of censorship:

  • The regular TV broadcast, which censors both visuals and audio.
  • The "Akogare" version, available on only AT-X (which I believe is a subscription-based cable channel?) and d Anime Store (a digital streaming service). Removes some parts of the censorship but not all.
  • The "Super Akogare" version, available on only Blu-ray/DVD. Contains absolutely no censorship other than what's legally required.

I have no idea how much fanservice there is in the regular TV broadcast, but it sounds like it's much less than the official subbed version — I *assume* that's the Akogare version.

So, considering the regular TV broadcast is Japan-only, I'm personally going to vote for Keep Manga Only, since almost every single international fan watching it is going to be watching one of the less censored versions. Knowing how anime works, they can still get away with some pretty risque content on TV as well, but like I said, I don't know how much they actually censored that version.

  • Too Hot for TV: Downplayed, as the anime has three versions: A normal broadcast version where Lens Flare Censor is used, while the AT-X version, known as the "Gushing version" is considered the middle-ground in censorship with uncensored nipples, but no genitalia and the audio is muted or has music playing over it. Meanwhile the DVD/Blu-Ray "Ultra-Gushing version" is apparently just shy of a full on hentai.
Curious and requires more checking, though I'm not optimistic considering nudity isn't the only issue.

Actually, can anyone check if the HIDIVE version uses the regular TV broadcast? Just asking.

Watched The Teaser of the first episode, and it looks like they got the cable version.

Actually, scratch that- they got the Akogare version. Nevermind my previous comment.

Still, not sure why we're not keeping the tv broadcast because it doesn't have any foreign release...

Note sure about Hidive, but French licensor ADN has both "censored" and "non-censored" versions of the anime.

The "censored" version mostly adds rays of lights to hide naked nipples and a bit of the most risqué shots, but it's not that much of a difference.

Episode 12 of the anime aired in Japan today, and the 13th and final episode airs a week from today on the 27th. I propose holding off judgment regarding troping the anime until Episode 13 airs.

Not to try to bring up judgement now, but my question of why we're not keeping the tv broadcast because it doesn't have any foreign release is left unanswered. If this still isn't answered by the time the final episode airs, I might have to reconsider my judgement.

Why would whether it has a foreign release or not be a factor?
