Wednesday cleanup

A lot of the Wednesday pages seems to attract a lot of misuse and complaining that is shipping related.

So it was suggested that we start a thread for it. So here we go.

Okay so start after a discussion on the removing complaining. I came up with this rewrite.

Original:

• Romantic Plot Tumor: The alleged Love Triangle between Wednesday, Tyler and Xavier was quickly labelled as one of the weak parts of the show, that too often slowed down the plot. Not only many fans argued that it didn't fit the usual themes of the Addams family, especially for a character like Wednesday, but they also pointed out that Xavier and Tyler's interest for Wednesday came out of nowhere, and that if they really wanted a romantic plotline, Wednesday and Enid's relationship would have been better to use for that.

Rewrite:

• Romantic Plot Tumor: The alleged Love Triangle between Wednesday, Tyler and Xavier was quickly labelled as one of the weakest parts of the show, with many feeling that too often slowed down the plot and took up to much screetime. Many fans argued that it didn't fit the usual themes of the Addams family, especially for a character like Wednesday, and that Xavier and Tyler's interest for Wednesday came out of nowhere.

Now should we trim and reword this one?

• Fan-Preferred Couple: Even before the series premiered, the intense amount of shipping that already existed for Wednesday Addams and her werewolf roommate Enid Sinclair (dubbed Wenclair) was definitely strong and only got stronger than the canon pairings of Wednesday with Xavier Thorpe and Enid with Ajax Petropolus when the series came out. This is due not only to both the Les Yay and adversarial elements that are extremely prominent in Wednesday and Enid's very different personalities clashing, but their interactions of both conflict and identifying with each other and how each one learns from the other in helping them to grow in their maturing characters—especially with Enid just naturally wanting to help Wednesday evolve and Wednesday being in danger prompting Enid to finally "wolf out" to save her. All this is made even stronger throughout by the very effective chemistry between actresses Jenna Ortega and Emma Myers too. As is said, they shouldn't work, "but do".

If the context is wrong or false then I think you can replace it with what really happened without discussion.

So, I don't know what to do with this entry:

• Lying Creator: Prior to the series' release, Jenna Ortega described Wednesday as a "queer icon" and some of Netflix's Twitter advertising implied that she was gay — or at least bisexual. In the series itself, however, Wednesday is in a strictly heterosexual love-triangle and the only forthright LGBT relationship is Eugene's parents. To the outrage of fans, the "Wednesgay" ads were also quietly taken down.

I am reasonably sure this is complaining and I don't think this fits honestly. But I want some opinions.

Eh, that's not complaining to me. Stating that creators advertised a work in a certain "misleading" way, then backtracked from their initial advertisement as objectively as possible isn't complaining, IMO. But maybe, "To the outrage of fans, the "Wednesgay" ads were also quietly taken down" can be reworded.

Or perhaps, because the "Wednesday is queer" advertisement was just "implied", that makes it come off as complaining?

Does anyone know the original interview?

Perhaps it is the classic case in which some words are taken out of context.

I have seen the interview (can't find the link) and she is asked about it (the interviewer is the one who said queer icon) and says that it is simply because she is an outsider. The Wednesgay thong however is not taken out context and they did infact use that for the party and proudly posted about it before quietly removing all mentions of it which fans commented. Though again I am not sure that is the case of the creator lying.

I thought we usually ignore actors on word of god?

We do. Which is another reason I am not sure it counts.

The sentence about Jenna's statement doesn't make the example count if she's not the one who said it and she's just an actor who's not involved in the production of the series. And rereading the example, it seems to be more of a "the creators backtracked in something they initially advertised" case than outright lying, (i.e. saying a famous actor would make a cameo and then they actually don't).

If it was implied in the advertising, might it be a case of Never Trust a Trailer?

Due to the Percy controversy, I think we should wait a bit before adding entries in "Harder in Hindsight" or the like.

That could work... unless there's a different trope for misleading advertisements?
