As my posts there would imply, I do see game shows as being real life, or at least real life adjacent, because they're not as fictionalized as reality shows, and while players might put on a persona, saying that someone is an "idiot" for getting a question wrong is stepping out of the bounds of the show and attacking the real person.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessOf course, some shows might stage some things, but game show contestants are almost always playing as themselves so I don't think things What An Idiot should be used.

Macron's notesContestants may play up for the camera, but ultimately these are just your average Joe off the street, so it is in bad taste to call them idiots.
(Annoyed grunt)I believe NRLEP should indeed apply to Game Shows. I don't believe Game Shows are staged to the degree Reality Shows are, and in many cases NRLEP Game Show sections devolve into insulting and mocking the contestants. For those reasons, to NRLEP involving Game Shows.

TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper Wallto making game shows NRLEP as legitimate game shows are not scripted (as compared with semi-scripted reality shows).
Kirby is awesome. To applying No Real Life tropes to non-scripted game shows.
As I mentioned before, NRLEP

TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupNRLEP for Game Show contestants.
Come play Character Uplift Game!NRLEPE game show contestants (who lack the narrative behind them that otherwise allows Reality TV to have such).
Should I add back the Game Show WAI page wicks until we call the votes?

Eh, the only person who disagreed so far was Septimus, so... but yeah this probably would need a crowner to be sure.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI will create this holler-able post to holler a mod for a crowner consisting of:
Should NRLEP tropes apply to Game Show contestants?
- Yes they should apply
- No, game show contestants are RL people who should not be troped.
Hmm, the wording there seems a little weighted.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI don't know about making a crowner for a trope talk thread. We usually don't do that. Maybe we can move this to Wiki Talk and have the crowner there?

Macron's notesHad to double check because this sounded like a Wiki Talk conversation.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupYou can move a thread into a forum with crowners, attach one then move the thread back, last I checked...
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanApologies for the loaded options, I thought I was being clever instead of just being a dick about it.
Anyways, I was just going by what warjay said when I called for a crowner. The consensus seems to be overwhelming that game show contestants fall into the real life people, as far as NRLEP is concerned.
I didn't choose the troping life, the troping life chose meTo be fair, I'd also forgotten this was Trope Talk. And also I just figured that since we have a crowner for other NRLEP stuff, we should do one here, ya feel? If it's not necessary then that's even better.
Oh, and I didn't think you were being a dick or anything, I just want to make sure we don't influence opinions with the way the options are worded, even by accident.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI moved the thread to wiki talk.
I think all we need for the crowner is this:
Should NRLEP tropes apply to Game Show contestants?
People who disagree can downvote and people who can upvote it.
Macron's notesSo should we go ahead and set up the crowner? Proposed wording:
Should game show contestants be considered Real Life for the purposes of NRLEP?
- Yes, NRLEP should also included game show contestants.
- No, game show contestants should be considered fictional/tropable.
I'd prefer the single-option up/down version, though clarifying that downvoting would mean treating it like a show/fiction wouldn't be a bad idea.

TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupCurrently Working On: Incorruptible Pure Pureness
So the question would be:
Should No Real Life tropes also apply to Game Shows/Contestants? (upvote: Yes they are Real Life and shouldn't be troped, downvote: No, they are fictional enough to be troped)
I didn't choose the troping life, the troping life chose meI made the crowner but I put the voting clarification in the crowner's description. Not sure if that works or not.
Macron's notes
Crown Description:
There has been concerns about game show contestants being troped as most game shows aren't staged like Reality TV shows are. This crowner's purpose is to decide whether or not game show contestants can be tropes. Voting UP means "Yes they are Real Life and shouldn't be troped." and voting Down means "No, they are fictional enough to be troped."
Following up on this ATT report, the question was raised if Game Show contestants qualify as Real Life or fictional enough to apply tropes to.
