I finally got around to reorganizing MCU: Other Superheroes per discussion on the forum. I also created folders for Werewolf by Night and Elsa Bloodstone, and moved Man-Thing over from MCU: Cosmic.

Do you think we should make a folder for Winter Soldier's Cybernetic Arms in his page, one for his titanium and another for his vibranium? Just a thought because Captain America has his shield on his page, Thor has Mjōlnir and Stormbreaker, Falcon has Redwing, and Wenwu has the Ten Rings.

I'm a bit mixed on it. I mean I guess you could. I'd go 40/60 on it. If there's enough tropes for them than sure, why not.

Did the thread in charge of deciding if objects can be troped ever come to a decision on that?

Also, John Walker's page is called that because he goes by three aliases over his run - his name, Cap, and Agent. It's the same reason why Bucky's page is called Bucky Barnes instead of The Winter Soldier. I can go either way on renaming Sam's page on the same principle.

To be honest, I deep down want to take the Marvel Comics route and change most of the character pages by their real name like (e.g. Marvel Comics: Carol Danvers, Marvel Comics: Mac Gargan, and Marvel Comics: Jean Grey) partly because:

  • Your aforementioned fact that some characters have many aliases
  • Some of their variants don't go by the alias of the character page (HYDRA Stomper, Star-Lord (T'Challa), and Tony Stark from Earth-32938)
  • The fact that some aliases are shared by more than one character at the same time. For example:
    • Hawkeye is currently being shared by Clint Barton and Kate Bishop.
    • Danny Rand and Colleen Wing are both Iron Fist and so was Davos for the majority of the second season.
    • There are five other Winter Soldiers apart from Bucky Barnes.
    • There were two Daredevils in the third season of Daredevil: Matt Murdock and Benjamin Poindexter.
    • There are HUNDREDS of Black Widows even without including Natasha Romanoff, Yelena Belova, or Dottie Underwood.
    • Black Panther was used by many people. T'Challa, T'Chaka, Erik Killmonger, and whoever's gonna be the new Black Panther in the sequel though it’s likely Shuri.
  • The ever growing list of Legacy Characters in the MCU will further increase and complicate this. For example, Joaquin Torres will become Falcon soon.

It’s possible that changing many of these characters’ page names to their real names can help disambiguate given how many characters can use one alias whether simultaneously (like the examples above or The Green Lanterns) or as a Legacy Character (like with Sam Wilson as Captain America or in a more popular example, Jason Todd succeeding Dick Grayson as Robin). However, I’m a little reluctant and not fully sure about this because it might not be a good idea, having their most popular alias as a title sounds cooler, and there might be some cons to this that I’m missing out.

[up]Both of the cons are things to worry about, but I actually agree with you. I think we should start using real names with the ever expanding legacy characters.

[up][up]That thread stalled out again.

And to cause further confusion (and debate) amongst fans, Daredevil: Born Again has been clarified as a soft reboot rather than a continuation of the hit Netflix show and possibly now rendering the previous show(s) non-canon.

Haven’t contributed here in a while, but soft reboot doesn’t tell us anything about canonicity. This is what we’ve already been expecting from Born Again, it will just mean a slightly different style/status quo.

Also, I feel like comicbookmovie is one of those clickbait sites, though I can’t remember off the top of my head. Either way, wouldn’t rely on it for information if it’s not one of the major trades, especially since this appears to just be speculation from an interview (that, again, just tells us what we’ve already known for a while now).

[up]I personally believe that we should all just wait until the show actually comes out before we all decide on if its actually a Soft Reboot or a normal, full-blown reboot.

I’m sorry, perhaps just to let you know!! Besides, I didn’t really know what a ‘soft reboot’ meant before I posted my original message.

@GateStarX So, should changing the page names to their real names really happen because the list of characters sharing the same alias could really go on and on. Plus I also found another reason: changing them by their real names makes them consistent with other characters who aren’t superheroes (Karen Page) or don’t go by a superhero alias (Jessica Jones)

I also found that some live action adaptations of superhero comic books use real names too when it comes to their character pages (i.e. Gotham, and Arrowverse, the latter more so given how there are legacy characters in there too)

I would go with yes. It was easier before Marvel started introducing legacy characters but now that they have I would say to go with the real names. The only ones i'm iffy about are the characters with DID i.e. the Hulk or Moon Knight.

Before we do anything though we need to figure out what to do with the alias pages. Most people are going to be looking based on the code name i.e. Captain America or Ghost Rider, so should they be redirects or should we make a bunch of ambiguity indexes?

If we change the titles of the pages, the old titles should be redirects to the new ones (so for instance, if you create MCU: Steve Rogers, MCU: Captain America should redirect to it) because that's how title changes usually go - the old title becomes a redirect to the new one. If we need to direct them to another page (so continuing the analogy, linking to Sam and Walker's pages), we can find a place to slip it into the article (i.e. "For other characters who use the Captain America title, see X and Y")

For the DID characters, keep the original names - if there's somehow a legacy character later on we can figure that out later, but it'll be far easier to just keep Hulk and Moon Knight (and others if I missed any) where they are

Well on further thought I think we should just use real names for everyone, keep it uniform. Other character pages for people with DID usually use the original name e.g. Kevin Wendell Crumb from split.

Well yeah, I also saw that Incredible Hulk: Bruce Banner, Moon Knight: Marc Spector, and Marvel Comics: Norman Osborn (who are also all the most prominent examples for DID in the MCU) go by their first and original identity in their comic character pages so what do we do about that?

Here's my attempt at a redirect. Click both links and tell me if it leads to the same page. If it works maybe I can get fully started on helping rename pages tomorrow

Okay good. So what do we do with the main character index above the character pages? Do we rename their aliases to their real names or keep it as-is? I’m leaning towards the former

When a character folder for Ulysses Bloodstone is created, where should he go? He’s a superhero in the comics but in werewolf by night he looks like the crypt keeper.
