The Soft-Split cleanup thread has been working on Fainting, and recently spun off two sub-tropes: Faint in Shock and Fake Faint. We've cleaned the On-page examples, but Sandbox.Hey The Wick Check Fainted shows that around 60% of existing Fainting wicks should be listed under Faint in Shock. This thread aims to clean up dangling wicks that should be placed on the sub-tropes, and would appreciate the help.
If you change wicks to point to either Faint in Shock or Fake Faint, please don't forget to Crosswick!
Since we expect quite a few Fainting Wicks to still exist after the check, please report in on the sections that you have checked, so we don't all end up covering the same ground.
EDIT: Further working through the wicks has lead to some other discoveries. In addition to Fake Faint and Faint in Shock, there are a couple of other related tropes:
- Face Fault: Comically exaggerated reaction to another character saying something dumb or shocking. Literally stunned by what they heard. Most common in Manga and other comics.
- After discussion across several bits of the wiki, and a TLP run for the concept of Knockout Stench, it seems that a character passing out due to a smell is a downplayed variant of Wilting Odor. Sometimes these are listed under Fainting with or without the phrase "Faint in Shock".
As of 10-11-2022, wicks starting from the bottom of the list have been cleaned up through Ready Jet Go/

Sandbox/, Roleplay/, and Recap/ from "watchmen" to "the smurfs" is done.
Recap/ up through "The Flash" is done.
Recap up through 'The angry Beavers' done.
Looking at the sandbox, do you think there may be a viable trope for when a character faints from their injuries?
Not sure. We'd have to evaluate whether there would be too much overlap with Heroic RRoD and Post-Victory Collapse.
The original plan was to re-do the wick check once we've done a wipe-through to migrate out the Faint in Shock and Fake Faint examples. Note: there has been the odd other trope - ended up moving one to Face Fault.
Recap/ up through "Teen Titans Go" - I'm starting to skim past some of the more Partialcontext Examples, so maybe more cleanup after we complete re-checking wicks.
Recap/ up through the "Star**" entries.
Recap/ up through Sabrina The Teenage Witch
Up through Recap/NCIS
Cleaned through Recap.Little Princess
Cleaned through Recap.Game Of Thrones. Not sure what's up with this one:
Recap.Left Behind Book 8 The Mark
- Fainting: Some people in the crowd who witnessed Nicolae Carpathia rising from the dead fainted when Nicolae merely touched them with his hand.
It's past-tense, and the resurrection incident happened in the previous book per the recaps. Why is it being troped here? Is it discussed in this book, or is the entry just misplaced?
Up through Recap.Doctor Who. There are more PCE that would probably be FIS if properly filled out.

Couple that I have a question about:
- Columbo S 09 E 06: Wayne keels over from the shock of finding out that the bullet he fired did not kill Theresa as she was already dead. He's faking.
- Columbo S 02 E 05: Nora when she finds out that she actually killed Jean. Or so we thinkāit turns out to have been an act.
I'm thinking that technically these are Fake Faint. However, the framing makes me think that the "Fake" part isn't known till The Reveal. How to trope?
- Just Fake Faint
- Faint in Shock with an addendum later in the example, much as they are written now
- Trope both ways (For completeness, I don't think this is the way to go)
Does being The Reveal matter if it's in the same episode? It's a recap page.
Good point. Troped as Fake Faint.
Got this one:
- Camp Camp S 4 E 3 Who Peed The Lake: Preston does the Drama Queen flavour of this in the background after it's revealed that Max can't swim.
So, is this Fake Faint, or Parodied (In Universe) Faint in Shock? The question has been around since both tropes were launched. I'm personally of the opinion that Fake Faint requires an intent to deceive. Warjay and I never got feedback from other tropers.

Cleaned what I could determine back up through Recap.Birds Of A Feather.
And I've made it up through the Rs.
Cleaned through Manga/
Did we ever establish if passing out from physical pain was a specific Fainting subtrope, or just general usage?
I don't think so, though from what I can gather, it's the latter.
Series/ is done, and the pothole on SanitySlippage.Live Action TV is good as-is.
