Misused: Not So Different

Mirror Character is up now and I've been grabbing things off Not So Different while wicking the new trope.

I'm gonna try and start moving some of the potholes to Mirror Character when I have the chance. I'm still working through Main/.

I've seen some cases where people use it when Suspiciously Similar Substitute would be more appropriate.

Which one, Mirror Character or Not So Different?

Mirror Character is less than 24 hours old, and I've been keeping an eye on where it gets wicked today to prevent immediate trope decay, so I don't think that's it.

~Selkies, I'm starting on Characters/ and I'm noticing some pages where you've commented the trope out rather than just cut the misuse. Please don't do that; we only hide ZCEs, and during TRS cleanup we're allowed to delete anything that's low context or doesn't count for the trope. Not So Different needs to be dewicked and hidden examples still show up as wicks.

Oh, I kinda forgot why now, but I think I hid ones that I thought may belong to "Not So Different" Remark but wasn't 100% sure about the remark part, so I commented them out because they lack context for me to decide to dewick or just remove on the basis that they are misuse (no acknowledgment of their similarities). Sorry about that!

It's alright. Just keep in mind. For TRS cleanup, you pretty much want to remove anything that isn't definite or doesn't have enough context. It's one of the few times we're allowed to just outright delete examples like that.

Sorry for the double post, but I found this on Overly Sarcastic Productions when dewicking, and I'm not sure what to do with it. It discusses Not So Different in general and only the last part mentions NSDR (and Mirror Character).

• Not So Different: Red finds invoking this trope to be cringe worthy because the majority of works that use it do so very poorly; either the villain convinces the hero of this when they have nothing alike (making the hero look like an idiot), or when there are similarities invokedthey are not looked at. Red states that a better use of this trope is when there are actual similarities to explore, or when the hero does come to this conclusion on their own.
