Ban-Evader Reversion Thread
Please read the outline below before proceeding any further.Important Note: This thread is devoted to reverting the edits of Tropers who have repeatedly chosen to evade their bans and suspensions, since serial ban-evasion is an act which is by its very nature a display of untrustworthiness, the fact that some ban-evaders outright engage in vandalism or add false information notwithstanding.
, due to the prolific nature of serial ban-evaders, there needs to be a team effort devoted to reverting any and all edits made by ban-evaders, especially serial ban-evaders, and investigating otherwise suspicious edits.
Depending on how much of the pages can be salvaged, they will either be noted in the B.E.R.T. Watch-List, locked if necessary, or cut if unsalvageable.
Any Frequently Vandalized Pages will also be monitored for suspicious activity.
If you notice a page is primarily edited by a certain ban-evader and/or their socks, please bring your findings to this thread so that cleanup can commence.
Potentially valid examples added by ban evaders should be transferred to Ban-Evader Example Rewrites so they can be salvaged. Make sure to mention transferring examples to the sandbox in your edit reason so others who may be willing to rewrite are aware.
Handling General Ban-Evader Edits:
To paraphrase what is stated here and here:
- Bad faith is not necessarily assumed with the contributions of first-time ban-evaders, and their contributions can simply be rephrased assuming they're accurate.
- Any serial (more than once) ban-evader cannot be taken at their word, so their contributions are subject to harsher scrutiny. Any verifiable examples can be reworded (especially if there are grammatical or formatting issues), but unverifiable, false, or otherwise prohibited edits are removed.
- Ban-evaders who deliberately contribute inaccurate or false information are able to have their contributions deleted with little hesitation.
- Rewording or reverting can be as simple as expanding on a ban-evader's existing edits, especially if it means adding sufficient context or trimming word cruft.
The subsequent portions of this section outline further how to handle different kinds of edits and contributions.
The following types of edits can be left alone to preserve wiki quality:
- Grammatical corrections.
- Spelling corrections.
- Formatting updates and corrections.note
- Crosswicked examples from other tropers.
- Indexing (if accurate).note
- Accurately written potholes.note
- Links to the correct Work/Recap/Instalment/Franchise page, including red-linked works.note
- Archive edits. (See here.)
- Launched Tropes.note
The following edits might need to be reworded in order to stay on the wiki, and depending on the examples, may need to be re-evaluated/verified in this thread or in the proper cleanup threads.
- Zero-Context Example expansion.
- Otherwise correctly formatted and valid edits.
The following edits should remain hidden until they can be verified, and deleted if proven inaccurate:
The following items must be sent to the cut-list/otherwise removed on principle (and if applicable, re-created by a trustworthy editor from scratch using a Sandbox):
- Pages created by ban-evaders using their socks.note
- Videos uploaded by ban evaders using their socks.note
- Please refrain from "popcorn posting". This means refraining making comments such as "man, they don't know when to quit", or otherwise unproductive posts.
- Please maintain an atmosphere of civility.
- Please do not withhold information about potential sock-puppetry or other ban-evasion related misconduct, as withholding such information makes one an accessory to ban-evasion.
- When reverting edits, please make notes in the sandboxes, and transfer any potentially valid edits to the appropriate sandbox.
- When reverting ban-evader edits, please use an appropriate (and civil) edit reason.
- Should you suspect a ban-evader has shown up in this thread, please do not make open accusations, trash-talk them, or engage in other uncivil behaviour. Quietly holler the post and wait for mod input; if necessary (especially if suspicious edits or issues unrelated to the forum are involved), make a query at "Ask The Tropers".
- Please respect the thread consensus once it has been established. If an item is resolved, it is usually resolved for a reason.
- If you have any suggestions for new policies, or wish to contest an old one, do it in the General Policy Discussion, not here.

You're welcome. I've removed a few more of their edits, but there's still one I'm unsure about, namely this one. They removed an entry for (in their opinion) being too complain-y, should it be restored, or should it be left deleted?

It's not ban evasion yet, but highly suspicious, and if one gets suspended I assume they both would be.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.

By the way, if a ban evader leaves a ZCE, are we allowed to expand them/hide them, or should we just delete them?
I figure that if the trope is verifiable, it can be expanded, but that if they are inaccurate, they should be deleted.

There is no absolute rule saying that every edit that a ban evader makes must be deleted. It's a matter of judgment. Most of the time they are banned for bad editing, so it's assumed that their work is not worth keeping.
For some, we revert them on principle as a means of discouragement. If nothing they do is allowed to remain, they may decide to give up.
None of this should be taken to mean that you should not keep an valid example just because a ban evader happened to make it. Pretend they hadn't edited at all and do your own work and everything will be fine.

The article should be started over from scratch without regard to any content that was previously added. I should note that in that specific case the author of the fic had a little hissy fit and deleted their TV Tropes account over the reversions, so I suspect shenanigans. I wouldn't mourn if we had to permanently cut the article. It's just a fic; it's not fucking Othello. Nothing of great value will be lost.

That seems kind of overkill. If the work page is fine enough to keep around, I don't see how a user ban evading is enough reason to undo the work of other users. If anything, a troll might enjoy that kind of thing.
It has just been confirmed that Bee Boo X is The Benefit 5 ban evading. Please revert their edits (and add pages they created and solely edited to the cutlist) if you see them.

After extensive investigation and tracking down of clues, I am now reasonably convinced that Kirby-Israel is a ban evasion sock of monsterhunter-2002. I am sorry for the delay but they appear to have figured out a weird proxy trick. We'll be watching for it now.
For the your mileage may vary tab and trivia for say, Allysin Kay, everything done by KJ Tropes was removed, but I didn't see anything wrong with what KJ Tropes added. Kay qualifies as a promoted fan boy. She makes uses of several licensed songs, so real song theme tune is objective. She was supposed to be in a tournament but couldn't make it after advancing to the second round so the brackets had to change. All objective, so I see no reason not to add it back.
Now it's subjective whether or not anyone things her 713 day title reign is her crowning moment of awesome or not, if that's someone's opinion, so be it. I can objectively prove that people did celebrate that occasion, whether or not you agree it is anything to celebrate. And yeah, I get it, shipping is a fan thing everyone doesn't engage in, but if the fan fiction exist then so be it.
I know it probably doesn't look good on my part if someone comes in removing a ban evader's edits and I immediately put them right back, so I have waited and telegraphed my intentions here, but I predict that if this page is any indication I will be reverting a lot of removals. Look, read, understand, KJ Tropes got on my nerves too. Even if the user was not a ban evader KJ Tropes had a tendency to create pages that other wiki would call "stubs", use that other wiki as a crutch as opposed to actually filling the page with information in this website's preferred format and pad for space by hitting the enter key, but I feel this blanket removal of edits is a mistake and see no reason not to revert these reversions where found. Even taking my annoyance into account, the accused ban evader's initial offenses were changing perfectly fine edits of other people(familiar?) and doing an exceptionally poor, oddly aggressively failing job at keeping his personal opinions on Trish Stratus to her your mileage may vary tab while acting like any contrary opinion to his own had to be challenged. I get it, it got on my nerves too, but what's being removed now on principle is not what he was banned for. Like it or not, not all of his contributions to the wiki have been negative, and it would be needlessly tedious to reword all of his edits too, considering most of them are perfectly fine points to make to begin with.
Most of his stubs for that matter are important figures in their business, and most that aren't still have what count as large fan followings in this era. Most of the information he adds is of substance, if padded by some unneeded events and not elaborated on before he's off to the next topic. I think his problem is that he knows a lot but doesn't have a lot to say about it. No, I'm not literally going to add every last letter of his back, I know the problems of KJ Tropes and Jik TV well, but on that trivia tab I still so no reason not to go to the page history, copy and paste. I imagine the tab's not the only such case.

Per this thread, it's possible that Mixmaster 226 is ban evading as Serengeti Yeti. Both tropers share the same Single-Issue Wonk with the final season of MLP, to the point of bringing up the same fan campaign to "save MLP".

OMG, these fucking idiots. Confirmed that SerengetiYeti is mixmaster226 ban evading.
I'm pretty sure "these fucking idiots" have been said before by a mod, but it's honestly hilarious to know that they were said in official capacity, so to speak. 
For me, it's pretty disappointing to see. I don't know what moderating TV Tropes is like but it seems stressful.

Confirmed. I don't know how we could even begin to go about cleaning up Pren's 20,000+ edits over more than six years. It's probably not worth the effort.
