Predator General Thread

The Yautja honor code seems more like the Yautja equivalent of real life game and fishing violations.

So for example, trying to bring back a baby skull as a trophy is akin to being caught with fish that are under the minimum size.

"alright,do you have a permit for hunting humans?"

-hands over paperwork-

"Alright,it seems you've got everything in order"

-stamps paperwork-

(cue the applicant getting into trouble and having their hunting-permit withdrawn due to forgetting to add "ARMED" before "humans" on their application...)

The antagonist Yautja in Predators presumably had their hunting permits revoked and have resorted to illegally kidnapping prey for sport on their private playground.

That is totally a thing in the Predator Expanded Universe. I wish the films would draw more deeply from the comics and novels.

It's not that odd though, since the movies always focus on the humans who are being hunted by the Predators.

To the point that the upcoming movie doesn't even include "Predator" in the title but "Prey".

This looks good and much better than the last Predator movie with that silly and inaccurate thing about Autism is next stage of evolution. Plus the Natives aren't the only ones the Predator will be hunting.

Okay, that... actually does look good. I am surprised! (Gladly so.) ^_^

It looks great. Like after it's mess of a predecessor. In hoping this creates like a bunch of similar concept films around Predators VS. Ancient people.

Btw their even doing a dubbed version in Comanche.

I'm still dumbfounded that the super-autism thing was written in a script that then went through multiple people and not one of them spoke up and said "this is fucking stupid".

They knew it was stupid but they just didn't care

I think the scarier thought is they genuinely thought they were being respectful and inclusive.

And this is why I cannot tolerate watching The Predator as I found the entire plot juvenile and nonsensical.

Must've been some heavy cocaine being passed around in the writers' room.

It's an alright movie right up to the ridiculous "autism is the next step in evolution" thing. Not great, but alright.

I'm not sure whether the "weaponized autism" thing or the stupid nanotech Predator suit is worse. Really just going all Independence Day: Resurgence all up in here with the latter.

As bad as the film is, it does offer a look at how dangerous Yautja can be if they're not just hunting for sport but are fighting for real. The "Classic" Yautja for example when he's breaking out of the complex is pretty much unstoppable even though he doesn't have most of his advanced weaponry. And the Big Bad Predator is even worse. Tellingly, the only reason the protagonists have a chance is because the Big Bad decides to indulge his desire for a hunt.

I wasn't a fan of the movie from the beginning mainly due to its tone and extremely groan worthy attempts at humor.

Wow I'm intrigued, nice to see a nostalgic series be taken in a new and interesting, rather than a safe and boring one for once.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong but is this the first movie with an almost entirely native american cast that is also part of an well known franchise.

Marvel's Echo is also planned to have a majorly Native cast and is even rumored to be set on a reservation, though that's a series and not a movie.

Also the literal first to get a Comanche-language dub and sub.

Just remembered, isn't Prey also the name of a video game that also stars a Native American protagonist and features aliens?

I did some looking and yep, Prey (2006) is the game you're talking about.

Prey had a screening last night at the SDCC and it seems to have a pretty positive response from Twitter.

They are calling it the best Predator movie since Predator and that Amber Midthunder makes for a great lead.

The second and Predators seemed decent to me, so in my case it would not be: Damned by Faint Praise
