Anne Hathaway looks like she's having fun in her role. That's good; the High Witch is a role I think works best when the actress is chewing the scenery.
Apparently it will be released in the cinemas over in the UK because we don't have HBO Max just yet
Just watched the trailer. Looks fun. Anne Hathaway is clearly having a ball. I'm looking forward to it.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadWhat annoys me is that in Youtube comments (a place no one should go) are saying "This remake is awful" or "I'll prefer the original" when clearly is an adaptation, I don't know why they keep mixing these twos up.
Me, on the other hand, I won't compare this to the 90s version as it looks like it will be a fine adaptation in its own. And I agree that Hathaway will be highlight in this and it looks like she took some inspiration from Anjelica Hudson's performance and mannerism which I really appreciate.
On the sidenote: I watched the 90s version and I got scared as a kid, but now as an adult while I still got goosebumps I can't help but laugh at the way they transformed into mice. I mean, they looked like they've been possessed by a demon while dancing (If that makes sense). Am I the only one?
Speaking of the previous movie version, there was one part of it I never thought about as a kid and then it hit me as an adult. Hey, wait a minute. Where was the security in that hotel? Why wasn't anybody coming to that kid's aid? :S What, does that sort of thing happen regularly at that hotel?
"Huh. A bunch of crazy-looking women are chasing a little kid. Must be Wednesday."
I like to keep my audience riveted. In Dahl's world, most adults, especially those in authority, hate kids and think nothing of them getting trampled over so perhaps security wouldn't care.

I also thought of that and as a kid I wanted to live in a hotel because of it.

The Witches never scared me,but the other 90s movie with witches did, espically with eye in the spellbook,Hocus Pocus it was called
New theme music also a boxWonder if this one will retain the book's surprisingly downbeat ending or go for a happier one like the previous version did.
Given as Guillermo Del Toro is listed as a writing credit, my bet is the kid stays stuck as a mouse just like the book.
I was the opposite; I was scared of The Witches and loved Hocus Pocus. ^_^;;
I like to keep my audience riveted.Since they have Chris Rock narrating, seemingly as the kid from an older POV, I would assume that they'll go with the happier ending. Why chance voice over for no reason?
Maybe he's an older mouse now? 50s in mouse years?
mice do age differently from humans....

Some people hate sad endings, there's a good chance of a upbeat one because they don't want put people off
New theme music also a boxMy guess is a more upbeat ending.

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."The woman playing the Grandmother, Octavia Spencer, is someone I got introduced to when watching videos by Dead Meat. Good to see her getting another leading role.
I actually remember spencer from the help. It's good to know she'd gone onto have a great career.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Hey, she also lead Hidden Figures too. Woman has had a GREAT career.
I kinda wish this was a follow-up to the cult classic The VVitch.
Also, she was in the first Spider-Man movie too for a scene.

It's been 3000 years…Huh, turns out Spencer was also in The Shape of Water. I really need to see that movie one day.
I remember her from the Shape of Water. And Snowpiercer.

We all know the movie from the 90's. And we know another one is coming from Robert Zemeckis and Guillermo Del Toro.
Due to the fact that it's still not super okay to go to the movies, WB have made the conscious choice to stream The Witches on HBO Max, effective October 22. (Perfect for Halloween, no?)
