Wild Mass Cleanup

Go To

I am surprised that there hasn't been a stable WMG/WMG cleanup thread yet.

Here we look at the entries at WMG and make sure it doesn't get too out of control.

What We Don't Want to See
  • Stealth complaning and Creator Bashing. Enough said.
  • NSFW entries. Basically, any entry that contains or panders to bizarre sexual parings or fetishes.
  • Entries that purely consist of trolling or out of context memes. WMG is a silly place, but a line has to be drawn somewhere.
  • WMG that seems to be based on Content Leaks, or states that it is jossed/confirmed by leaks. We don't trope leaks.
  • WMG that veers into Real Life Troping. Creators can potentially have WMG subpages, but they should only focus on the creator's work - and should only be created if the WMG is about works that don't have their own pages. Things like speculation about why a creator left a project don't belong on WMG.
  • WMG for episodic works that spoils future instalments. WMG must always be Spoilers Off, but a WMG page that's specifically for the first book in a trilogy shouldn't spoil the other two.

If you want; I'd suggest making another one about this but I don't want to have two threads about the same person ongoing at the same time.

I never expected my thread to attract so much popcorn; I just thought we'd need more consensus before I just went and slapped their YMMV page on a cutlist, and that someone needed to move their Tropers/ page. Now I'm a little weirded out by the whole situation.

There’s also the fact that, as some of the bullet points under the entry point out, some of the points made are flat out incorrect and in any case, it starts to get conversational, which I’m pretty sure isn’t allowed.

Sorry for the double post, but I reposted the entry in the "Removing complaining, bashing and other negativity from the wiki" thread to get more thoughts on the matter.

I don't touch WMG pages very often, so I came across this mess on WMG.RWBY Characters Beacon And Villains by accident.

It's written by a troper (Kyuubi9841) who basically seemed to be advertising their Reddit activity. It's full of "this troper" and "I/me/my" violations, the spelling and grammar are terrible, and it's basically one massive complaint (that descends into full-blown ranting). And, they've put it on the page twice, underneath completely different folders, in the same edit (so it was deliberately done). They haven't posted since 2018, and from looking through their edit history, everything they added was a mess of issues — (some of which was cleaned a long time ago by others).

I don't know much about WMG cleaning. All the RWBY WMG pages probably need cleaning (it's the "I/me/my" language that led me to the page, but it's absolute rife on all the pages), but this jumped out as being particularly bad. I've already removed the duplicate, but what should I do with the remaining entry?

Oz, while not evil per say, is a morally ambigous third party in the humans vs Salem conflict.
Honestly, this troper has NEVER trusted Oz, especially after learning he was based of the wizard of Oz AND Odin. But, that distrust has lead to scrutiny that he believes should attract suspiscion, if not outright incrimination:
  • Exhibit A: The myths and fairy tales.
    • these stories seems to provide an adequate amount of world-building to the story, but wait! Where's Salem? And the Two Brothers left remnant, so what happened next? And speaking of the brothers, why did they leave the Grimm behind when they left, and what connection does Salem have with them? This troper beilieves that the 'witch' was present in the story that takes place between the Two Brothers and the Four Maidens, where Oz failed to stop Salem and was punished for it. There's story there that we're not privy to, and this troper finds it mighty suspicous (this troper also cannot spell suspicous today.) On top of this, all of our information thus far has come from a man based on two notorious liars, or from people who get THEIR info from him, and that leaves a lot of room for manipulation of the truth.
  • Exhibit B: Oscar and previous incarnations.
    • this exhibit may appear as more personal opinion, but a lot of Oz's behaviour in Oscar's body are reason's for concern. Firstly, Oz's dialogue tends to involve a good degree of coercion. Ozpin has also apperantly gained the ability to hijack Oscar's body without permission, and channel magic through it that hasn't been explained AT ALL! And while these aren't ussually causes for concern considering their circumstances, but recall who dear old Ozzy is based on, and remember this. And funny how NONE of his previous vessels are ever mention, besides that he basically parasites the body after a while, removing the original personslity (It's been implied, at least)
  • Exhibit C: The Branwen Twins, and Raven's magic
    • The Branwens are easily my favourite characters in this show ('sides Sun), for a lot of reasons. But one thing I could never ignore about Raven specifically: her gods-be-damned semblance. Am I the only one who thinks that twins should have at least similar semblances? Qrow, named after birds infamous for bad luck, emits an aura of bad luck. His sister Raven, named for a bird that has symbolized either death or prophecy (depending on the culture), has a semblance that let's her... completely shit on physics even more than any other power on this show and open portals to loved ones. That... makes absolutely no fucking sense, especially since her 'Semblance' looks exactly like one of SALEM'S EYES!!! (seriously, enlarge a picture of Salems eyes and put it next to a picture of Raven's portals. You'd be hard pressed to find a difference.) This troper is far more inclined to believe that Raven has some other, more thematically important semblance, and Oz gave her the extra portal magic when he gave the twins birb powers. Though why Qrow didn't recieve any powers is up to debate.
  • Exhibit D: Divide.
    • I love this song. But seriously, listen to this bit (1:30 - 3:00, more or less):
Salem: Form your armies dream your dreams. Make your plans and plot your schemes. Send your fighters one and all. Then in battle watch them fall. It was you who ended their lives. Made them to dig their own graves. With your dark, sick, cruel design. Convinced them their world could be saved. Have you no shame?. Signing them up for your war. Train them to fight what they can't beat. Your sins are what they'll pay for. Sacrifice them for your needs. Slaughter is coming the end drawing near. You'll regret your deeds. Legends and fairy tales. Scattered in time. Maidens and kingdoms. Wrapped up in a lie. These children you mislead. You'll watch them all bleed. Strength will not bring victory.
  • If this is viewed as Salem singing towards Ozpin, then very interesting implications are raised (besides the mental image of Salem sing heavy metal, of course.) Also, full disclosure, I have no idea what I'm doing with quotes, so is someone could help make the above look properly spaced for song lyrics, I'd be eternally grateful.
  • Exhibit E: Miscellanious shady shit:
    • Oz has always been secretive. He never says more than he absolutely has to to warrant an official voice actor, and what sentences he does use are all shady and cryptic as hell. Then there's tge infamous "I've made more mistake than any man, woman or child on this planet." quote, or him hiding A GODDAMN GRIMM DRAGON WITH NO APPARENT CONTINGENCY PLAN IN PLACE!! He actively overlooked both STRQ and RWBY's BS, in order to sculpt them into perfect warriors, and and I just can't freaking trust him.

Anyway, this isn't a chomprehensive list, that'll be posted sometime after the soundtrack releases on my reddit (kyuubi9841), so I can use the song lyrics to further my point. This is here to discuss and for me to hear points I hadn't considered, so go at it!

So if I understand this correctly, this isn't the first time they've added their theory that Spider-Man dies after NWH. Surely we have a rule against someone adding multiple entries for the same theory?

To clarify JumboJ99 submitted a Theory to Hawkeye (2021) as a backdoor way to bring back his Spiderman death theory

Rent in New York City has gotten too exorbitantly high for anyone besides Strange and Wong to live there.
  • This is backed up by Clint as Ronin making the city virtually crime-free, the process of which is finished off by the end of the Tracksuit Mafia. The near-zero crime rates as well as the extreme gentrification measures (mentioned by Tomas when he has Clint and Kate hostage) means that Kate will be unable to live in the city and will have to move in with the Bartons. Additionally, Peter will quickly end up homeless and will die via one of the very few muggers on the street as well.
    • Death by mugger feels very anticlimactic for someone like Peter to go out.
      • When you get down to it it makes complete sense. Everything that happened to Peter in No Way Home completely and irreversably traumatized him. All he has left is Spider-Man. Even if he could defend himself from a mugger while shopping for groceries, he probably wouldn't because he knows he'd end up homeless or dead of his mental trauma or getting too violent and reckless like Peter 3 almost did. All in all, its just a Surprisingly Realistic Outcome.
      • You're doing this here too? Oh my lord, we get it; You want Peter to die.
      • how does that make sense? we literally have a movie that's entire premise what that spiderman, any spiderman always, ALWAYS gets back up after getting knocked down the only one who didn't was mortally wounded by half a construction site falling one him, AFTER fighting one of the most physically imposing green goblins there is, and even then he had enough energy to still talk to his replacement and his biggest enemy, and only after said enemy broke his ribcage did he finally pass away. spidermen don't quit because of some random mugger they get taken out after fighting their heart out.

He also did a another theory along the same lines of trauma inevitably leading to death

Maya committs suicide not long after she's forced to kill Kazi.
  • As she has nowhere to go having been raised in crime, there's no way she'll be willing to keep going if she ends up in jail. Her upcoming series will instead focus on the last year or two of her life helping Kingpin lead the Tracksuit Mafia.
    • Jossed. Disney has greenlit a series for Echo.

There is also the response to this theory which ties into his aforementioned claim that all orginized crime in New York City has been wiped out. Not to mention he does not understand that the Kingpin's offscreen shooting means it was deliberately ambiguous

Kingpin is still alive, albeit injured

He has shown his super durability multiple times throughout the finale, such as when he shrugged off an arrow to the chest from Kate, so it'd make sense for him to appear in either Echo's show or maybe even a future movie with a few scars from Echo trying to shoot him. Plus, imagine the cries of They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character if Fisk really was Killed Off for Real after being hyped up so much as the return of the Marvel Television shows.

  • There's no way even he'd be able to survive a bullet to the face at point-blank range. Plus, what else would he have been able to do? It was already mentioned that Clint eliminated almost all crime in the city, and the Tracksuit Mafia was the last remaining crime organization there. There'd be nothing for him to rule over anyway.

I found WMG.Smite. The parts I'm concerned about are the ones suggesting new characters that could be added to the game: the folders simply consist of several very, very long lists of deities and mythological figures from various mythologies and pantheons, which is not very fun to read, not very informative, and overall feels very low-effort.

I feel like a good way to fix the page would be to require that each character suggestion includes at least a bit of an explanation about what their incarnation in the game would be like gameplay-wise or design-wise. But this would mean cutting away nearly all of the examples on the page. I did add some stuff to a few characters that I have a certain level of interest in, but that's less than a dozen out of hundreds of examples.

This WMG entry is...well, let's just say that the first response to it was a Flat "What":

Nuclear War is ANTI-bagmad Propaganda sent from the Future
It is not anti-communist (Soviet russian) Propaganda,It tells the tales of the nuclear civil wars of the world before the full out nuclear war.but the REALEASE NUCLEAR PROLIFERATION IS ANTI-BAGMAD propaganda!!! or perhaps one of the countries!!! It's a shameful blot on the gloroius nation of BAGM..ahh forget it.
  • What.
  • Makes perfect sense to me. But then, we Trianglanders have always seen the nobility of our Bagmadian brethren. So long as they all stay on the other side of our borders.

It's from WMG.NuclearWar (Nuclear War is a Tabletop Game). The initial entry is from 2010/2011 and predates the page history, which might explain why it's so...wut.

Do we cut WMG pages for being too short? The Happy Video Game Nerd only has one entry:

The Happy Video Game Nerd is The Angry Video Game Nerd from a Bizarro Universe
He reviews good games instead of being a Caustic Critic for bad games? Check. Drinks wine instead of beer? Check. Is a musician instead of a filmmaker? Check.

I plan to rewrite The Happy Video Game Nerd's page into one for Stop Skeletons From Fighting (his current channel name, the Happy Video Game Nerd character was abandoned in 2015) and I plan to migrate all of the HVGN pages to new pages for SSFF and I'm honestly not sure if I should keep the WMG page as it stands. The page wasn't updated since 2019.
