I have questions for Tropes to Cope

  1. I don't get how Obfuscating Disability (and other "obfuscating" tropes) can be used for coping. More like, I get the feeling that it can, but I just can't word it. (Their descriptions in the page don't explain it either)
  2. "Playing Drunk: A character pretends to be drunk to get away with something." How is this "coping"?
  3. "Playing Sick: Pretending to be sick to avoid something unpleasant or to gain sympathy from others." Same question.
  4. "Crocodile Tears: Insincere, fake tears shed to gain some sympathy points." Same question again.
  5. "Psychological Projection: A character projects their own character traits/emotions/desires to another character by presuming they feel/are the same as they." Same question again. note
  6. "Faking Amnesia: A character pretends to have lost their memory." I feel that this can be used for coping, but I don't know how to word it.
  7. What's the difference of Must Have Nicotine and Cigarette of Anxiety?
  8. What's the difference of Drowning My Sorrows and I Need a Freaking Drink?
  9. What is Post-Stress Overeating beyond "eating too much Comfort Food"?

Somewhat unrelated, but Self-Deprecation refers to works belittling themselves, not characters, right?

I think at this point if you disagree with those being indexed, you can remove them.

[up] I don't necessarily "disagree". It may be more the problem of me being ignorant. (I didn't contribute to the TLP draft after all)

Obfuscating Stupidity, Faking Amnesia and their siblings can be treated as a form of running away from your problems (either because you want to fool others, or you want to fool yourself).
