OK, here's where this thread is standing, with the unlocking:
Given the widespread backlash and complaining about certain aspects of the work (i.e. Dexit), we wanted to communicate very clearly what we are not willing to put up with: prolonged, circular complaining (or wonking).
Of course, with a controversial subject that has a large impact on the gameplay, Dexit is in one of those areas where there it may be on-topic to discuss it, but the nature of that discussion can wildly vary. As has been said elsewhere, we ix-nayed discussion of Dexit entirely because it never seemed to happen without devolving into that kind of complaining.
However, we're willing to unlock the thread after this 3-day cooldown period because the Pokemon General thread has been stable enough. And -
Can I discuss Dexit?
Yes. But if there is prolonged wonking on it, the thread just becomes an echo chamber of complaints and we do not like that. No one likes that. The same rules as ever apply. Be a constructive, healthy space. Have conversations about what you like, and what you don't like, but the thread should not get locked into a series of bitter complaints.
If you have questions or concerns about mod implementation or action, we have a thread for that here.
Alright? Thank you all for waiting this out. I hope we're all good now.

Except Gen II => Gen III, but I get your point. It saddens and upsets me, but it's not enough for me to drop Pokemon.
Mega Man fanatic extraordinaireIf that's really the only thing, then I'm honestly not sure why you even bothered staying on for so long.
I don't know what you mean by that.
They're asking why you even play the games if you consider the ability to transfer Pokemon "the one feature that made Pokemon special."
I mean, I still like the story and characters and designs, it's just that the fact that the Pokemon I caught as a child in Sapphire are real and still tangibly exist is so meaningful and powerful. Most of the time, you play a game and your experiences and choices don't matter, they exist only within the game itself, and once you put down the game, they stop existing. With Pokemon, every single Pokemon you catch is real and permanent, and you can keep even your oldest and first Pokemon as nostalgic memorabilia from your childhood.
The fact that I can still revisit and use Pokemon that I caught 16 years ago, when I was 6, even in the most recent games, is beautiful and precious to me, and it's the reason I hold Pokemon, as a franchise, so close to my heart. Without that, Pokemon loses its soul.
Can we please stop gatekeeping "How to correctly have fun at Pokemon"? If you dont mind the changes being made then good for you, i hope you have fun with what looks like a great game otherwise. However, just because you dont use the feature doesnt mean you can belittle the enjoyment other people get out of it. For some people, collecting the mons is a major part of it.
Personally I've spent literally hundreds and hundreds and humdreds and hundreds of hours catching, breeding, evolving, trading until i now have literally all the mons in a full living dex, over 800 unique pokemon. Are you saying i've been doing it "wrong"? Using a major feature of the game incorrectly? Well im sorry we've been doing it wrong. I guess collection and preservation was never the intention, even if it was directly supported by every game previously.
Thats not even getting into the emotional attachment to pokemon mentioned above, i have 6 major teams used thru 6 generatios that i'll likely need to split up now. While its ok that it doesnt affect you, and im happy you are unaffected, please dont act like it doesnt matter. Fans can enjoy a franchise in different ways.
The one and only meI was about to explain thats whu Home exists and how they said its gonna be different from Bank but then i realized weve done this song and dance before and maybe it would be better if we just waited to see what Home actually IS to see if it would sate people.
But for me, losing my pokemon is when my dog who was teething got to my game before i could and i lost a huge chunk of childhood pokemon forever. This is defenitely not that.
I'll stop when they stop.
I don't usually pre-order Pokemon games anyway as I'm unsure what version I want to get. I want to see the whole version exclusive list first.
Also, I'm completely onboard with pokemon transfers being available at launch. Anyone who says otherwise really is telling other people to play differently against their own will.
Dexit is a forbidden topic. Stop now.

x6 It should be pointed out that transfers to and from Bank were never at launch for a new gen. It usually took around two-and-a-half months after launch for Bank to be available for the new games (Bank first launched on Christmas Day 2013, but issues caused them to delay it again until late January for Asian regions and early February for everyone else, bank for gen 7 launched 2 months 1 week after launch). Bank's update for USUM was two days after launch, with ORAS being the only ones with Bank availability at launch.
It should also be pointed out that we haven't heard anything in regards to Home since the presentation back in late May. I wonder when we'll get more info.

"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."At this point I want more info for Home more than I want info for SwSh.
SoundCloudOh, don't worry, this isn't the first generation of Pokémon in which I've complained about it either.
Well, it's the first time I've complained about it in the tv tropes forum, I suppose, but you get my point.
I know. Which is why I'd throw a New Year's-esque celebration if they do just that for once.
I will definitely get Pokemon Sword/Shield if:
- They announce that they will be patching in all of the Pokemon to the game a few months after launch, or
- They reveal that Home is MUCH more substantial than Bank. Like, if Home is the Dream World, Pokemon-Pelago, Super Training, an online trading hub, an online battling hub, and a full National Pokedex all in one, then I won't hesitate, Home is now the main Pokemon experience, the games are just side-adventures.

Wait, there's complaining about the ability to pre order the game?
Am I missing something because that makes no sense. One, pre-order is common for games in general. Two, all pre-order consists of is "you pay now, get the game right away when it's out".
What am I missing here?
Edited by sgamer82 on Aug 15th 2019 at 6:47:58 AM
Because they need any possible reason to be mad.
Like people are mad because of the whole Quick Ball promo and I am like "Dude, we have had these item promos for past two gens".
Continue the bloodline, Fujimaru!I mean, there is some complaining about pre-ordering in general, since it technically stimulates companies to release unfinished or incomplete products, then charge people extra money (via DLC) for stuff that should've already been in the game since the beginning.
And considering what happened with SWSH, these complaints are not surprising.
P.S.: I know sometimes mentioning or referencing Dexit can be unavoidable, but please keep it at that and avoid jumping back into the actual topic again.

... And that's called jazz!Nice generalizing right there. Way to take unnecessary potshots.
My issue with preorders is more with the gaming industry as a whole than one with Pokémon specifically. I personally don't like the concept of pre-ordering a game when you don't know if it'll be good or not, especially in an industry that consistently bases it's hype on anything but showing the actual finished product, but how people want to use their money is not my business. I do, however, have a problem with the more exploitative versions of the pre-orders, where they add in exclusive stuff and different versions, and all other sorts of bullshit. See Anthem or the recent Assassin's Creed games for those kinds of things.
That said, I am planning to pre-order the Pokémon games, because, well, it's Pokémon. It's one of the few things we can realy on this industry to not have changed much in between games. But even then, I'm not buying any retailer-specific version, and I find it kinda annoying that there are versions out there with special stuff that could be in the game, but has been taken out for the sake of some exclusivity deal.
It concerns me a bit that eventually we will be forced to talk about the whole Dexit thing, because when the games do come out and we find out which Pokémon are and are not in the game (and then once more when Home comes out) that's going to become an unavoidable topic of discussion. Makes me think this is not going to be a very well-remembered generation despite it's actual merits and demerits.

Points about Home are well made, the lack of info on that is annoying. I'll just say if it is anything like Dream World then yeah, that'll be well worth it!
Yeah I was never interested in the extra balls promos, but i just kinda assumed its for other people who like that sorta thing. The only pre order attempts I've done for games were bad experiences, but only through personal circumstances, nothing relating to the practice in itself.
The one and only me
Yeah, but that's something every 'mons game has. Only Pokemon never cut any 'mons and allowed you to transfer all of your 'mons from one game to the next. That was the one feature that made Pokemon special.
