While what you're proposing would require special code, it would really just be a few lines of CSS. I'll make a fiddle to show it later.
Have you seen my comic yet?Alright, I used Safari's dev tools to make the following demo of sorts:
The same styling in night vision:
In case you're wondering, this is only 3 lines of CSS:
.oh-my-god-she-is-coming { z-index: 3; }
With the corresponding HTML tag, replacing the usual quoteright tag:
<div class="quoteright oh-my-god-she-is-coming" style="width:349px;height:278px;">
What does everyone think about this styling? Personally, I'd prefer an image that doesn't have dreadlocks covering up the text, but this was mainly for demonstration purposes.
Have you seen my comic yet?Good work! We just need to find a better image, and we'll all good.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessSo the text in both of those isn't part of the image? Nice! That's even better.
I actually really like the effect of her hair blocking the text, it's a perfect illustration of this trope, but I can see why it might bother some people.

Personally I'd prefer if a night vision-friendly mode could be created of the currently existing page image/caption, with a hoof overlaying the actual caption instead of the caption being part of the page image. Though I suppose it would require some image editing to make the hoof transparent.

mwopI already looked around, and I couldn't find a decent quality version to edit. Every version I found was grainy and wouldn't look good transparent.
Current needed replacing anyway without the Night Vision issue. The text box is very clearly part of the picture due to the image quality.
The Celeste suggestion works for me.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?I created a Sandbox. The Fourth Wall Will Not Protect You to play around with, currently using a transparent version of current.
I'll admit, I don't see a problem with the transparent version of ^, whether in Night Vision or Normal Vision.

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThe caption is displaced. It would look cooler if there was an overlap instead.
The Celeste image is a lot sharper and higher-quality than the MLP image, so I still prefer that one.

I prefer the Celeste one.
(Annoyed grunt)I'd prefer eenock's demonstration, if the css could be modified so that the caption is overlayed by the image. If the Celeste one is used, at least don't allow the image to cover up the actual article - just obscuring the caption should be enough.

mwopI think the Celeste image is great as a standalone image, but it'll be too frustrating to have it obscure the actual page text like it does.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI've yet to make the
overflow: visiblething work well with the caption though. In order for the image to appear above the caption, the quoteright tag it's inside needs to be layered above the acaptionright tag, which means that its bottom border (which is normally behind the acaptionright) becomes visible. Have you seen my comic yet?
^ Have your way with the sandbox.
Could you put the overlapping Celeste pic on the sandbox page so we can see it in action?
Keet cleanupUnfortunately I can't; the code for it isn't in the wiki formatting yet. People were talking about how doing it would require the staff to add special code for it, and I was responding by demonstrating how simple it would actually be to implement.
If you want to recreate it with dev tools, you just need to fix the width of the tag containing it with and set its z-index styling above 0.
Have you seen my comic yet?Honestly I think the one with Pinkie works better.
Illuminate!Any votes for Pinkie Pie?
Keep the MLP pic.
Keet cleanupIf it's easier to keep the MLP pic, then fine.
(Annoyed grunt)Unless we're cutting the caption, the problem with the MLP pic hasn't been addressed, so I really don't think we should keep it.
And if we are cutting the caption, well then I still recommend the Celeste pic since it's a lot sharper and higher-quality. The MLP pic also slightly overlaps with this work page.

Crown Description:
Nominations for replacement images:
It was brought up in the Night Vision Cleanup thread that the current image is incompatible with Night Vision. Turning on Night Vision reveals that the caption is part of the image, thereby ruining the joke.
We can't just remake it with Night Vision's colors, because then it will be incompatible with Normal View. Same with just making it transparent, since text changes color with the themes, too.
The only way I can see this working is if we have two different versions of the image (the current for Normal View, and one with Night Vision's color scheme) and use special coding on the page to switch them along with the themes, similar to how the image on Creepy Changing Painting works. Of course, that would require the staff to write and implement that special code, and I don't know if they'd be down for that. Even if they would be, it'd probably be pretty low on their list of priorities right now.
My suggestion: Badeline bursting out of the text box to attack the player in Celeste:
