Mortal Kombat is inherently campy and over the top anyway. I don't see why somebody's OC is going to somehow make that worse.
(2) I remember Kreate-A-Fatality. Nevertheless the concept didn't work the last time they tried it.
There's a line between being over the top and being campy that having a character kreator definitely crosses for me. Call it a personal gripe, but microtransactions, character creators, DLC, and online multiplayer automatically land on my sh-tlist unless they're implemented in a very specific, lore-friendly way that doesn't feel like it's thrown in because "well this game needs more features."
At no point did I sit down with IX or X and go, "I wish I could make my own Scorpion." That makes it hard for me to relate to anyone else that did.
I mean I'm sh-tting on this before we even know if it's real, but I'm not looking forward to it because I don't think Mortal Kombat really needs it, and if it's included it feeds to this toxic idea that one should just throw in features because other games are doing it.
And that idea has proven unnecessary at best for some of my favorite franchises - Batman Arkham Origins, Metal Gear Online, Assassin's Creed, The Last of Us, Conker's Live and Reloaded - and detrimental at worst - Elder Scrolls Online, Fallout 76, Star Wars Battlefront 2, Dead Space 2, FEAR 3, God of War Ascension, Max Payne 3; etc.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!I definitely liked the kharacter kreator. It was fun making a kustom kharacter. The only downside was custom fatality system could use a lot of work.
"When I offered to make Norea my third back-up girlfriend she just glared at me and started throwing things at me.." Renee CostaThe idea is not bad, I make a OC who have evoled in is own chararter thanks to it and as someone who saw plenty of MK fanfiction, the is plenty of need for OC, I can granted you.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"The Custom Fatality system was an abomination and took out the uniqueness of every character's Fatalities.
Growing up, it's like a civil war, don't turn away, it's something you can't ignore...The only way I can see Kustom Kharacters coming back if they did the same thing with SC VI

The custom characters was one of the best parts about MKA. The kreate a fatality was not however lol. I think they can make the CAC thing work if they figured out something with the fatalities. TBH I wouldn't mind just copycatting some other characters or choosing a from a list of non character specific fatalities(maybe like faction kills but actually impressive).
Kustom fatality was a necesity of having 62 chararter on screen, it was too much to bear.
And kustom chararter can work now they will add their own gear
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"And now they've got, what, 20+ characters with 2 fatalities each, a "Faction Fatality," and 1-3 Brutalities?

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Kreate-A-Kharacter is a feature that poses a lot of potential problems for a Fighting Game. The biggest one being game balance; look at the latest Soulcalibur and how people want CAS disabled for online play despite the fact that everyone copies movesets wholesale. Height does affect gameplay in that a decent amount and there are plenty of people that try an obscure their character's movements with gaudy costumes. MK:A had Kustom Kharacters being obscenely broken in the right hands.
And there's the costs that sink into it. I wonder how many regular kharacters could be made with the resources it takes to add a kharacter kreator, even a bare-bones one.
That said, I'm not against it. MK is definitely a universe where there's a zillion and one potential kombatants chomping at the bit to kick some ass. Just hope there's at least a dozen ninja mask options or we'll be seeing the same one over and over.
Bleye knows Sabers. The solution for SC VI is pretty easy one, just ban it from rank matches
Or just have a rank mode without customs allowed. TBH people take the CAC "issue" iin SC 6 waaaay too seriously.
Better yet, just make a CAC exclusive online mode.
"I'll show you fear, there is no hell, only darkness." My twitterI do kinda of get annoyed when a kanon kharacter is absolutely wrecked by random ninja dude 705 regardless of the game.
Except Xenoverse it makes a lot of sense in Xenoverse.
Bleye knows Sabers. What's the difference between a non canon CAC beating someone and a canon joke character doing it?
If you can't handle being outed by a signature, that's on you.
I argue it's worse in Xenoverse since the game doesn't really choose an alignment.
Nothing in terms of gameplay
Soble: Now imagine 62 chararter with two fatalities and expecting them to be good.....
Yeah....
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"At some point it's just going to get lazy and the Fatality will be somebody making a finger gun, aiming, and blood exploding out of the opponent's head for no discernible reason.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Sheeva still has my favorite fatality. "Stripped Down" which just has her tear off the opponent's skin in two solid chunks.
It's just the perfect mixture of MK's "gore so over-the-top and absurd it becomes ridiculously funny" mantra.
Bleye knows Sabers.Karen Strassman isn't returning either as Mileena or Kitana's VA.
I hope Kano retains his VA before it's too late.
Uni catI... don't remember these voices well enough to really care. Scorpion's VA from MKVDC was about the only performance in this franchise I found all that notable. Well his and Quan Chi's.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Okay that’s rather insulting.
The VA’s have been doing good work here.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I don't mean to be insulting I just never knew they had such a following. The voices in this game have always been kind of background noise to me. I mean:
IX was a major improvement so far as the lines weren't as narmy, but most of the voice-acting in this franchise is these characters screaming bloody murder. I didn't think Scorpion really had an iconic voice, just a passable one.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!
They did that already. Mortal Kombat: Armageddon had it. The ensuing result meant they had to give everyone the same generic fatality and that went over as well as Hsu Hao.
