So, I've got mixed feelings about this...?

I can only say one thing so far: Oh my.

So, first things first, I was expecting Dora's actress to be younger. So my literal first reaction was "wait, Dora has boobs, what?!"

More seriously though, as baffling as it is that this is a Dora the Explorer movie, this actually does look like a good, fun family semi-parody adventure film. Like the original Spy Kids, for comparison. Or Jumanji: Enter The Jungle, with less adult humor.

It's just a weird ass Dora the Explorer movie. "Oh, look. Dora brought a knife on the field trip." I, again, literally went "dafuq? I mean, that's funny, but dafuq?"

It would be hilarious if Boots still had the same personality from the show despite Danny Trejo providing his voice.

Ya'know the funny thing is I hadn't noticed. But now you've said that, and I've googled it twice now, and I can't un-see it or stop thinking about it.

Wow. Is a sad day when Swiper design is way better and more faithful than Sonic's.

Coincidentally, both Swiper and Sonic share the same Japanese voice actor.

[up] Here you go. It was a part of a new trailer airing for this week's theatrical releases (namely Toy Story 4). It features a self-aware flashback of kid Dora doing her usual stuff, No Fourth Wall included, along with Boots wearing boots.

To give Swiper's original animated design credit, it's fairly closer to its real-life counterpart proportionally compared to Sonic's own.

Is it bad that I might actually prefer the idea of 'Michael Bay's Dora' over... fart toilet humor Dora?

And I hate Michael Bay.

[up][up] I saw the trailer from the Toy Story 4 showing and no he doesn't speak, and I don't know if that was Trejo doing the monkey sounds.

Edit: Also it's weird that they didn't post the second trailer on the official Paramount Pictures or Nickelodeon You Tube channels, but it is still being shown at theaters.

The more I learn about this movie, the more I'm confused about why it exists at all. If the intent was to make a feature-length Dora The Explorer cartoon for preschoolers, they're behind the times by almost a decade—today's preschoolers are more interested in other shows. If they were trying to make an adventure movie for older kids, they missed the mark— the fact that it's still Dora The Explorer is going to be an instant turn-off. And if they were trying to attract teens and young adults who watched the show as kids, they failed at that because it borders on being an InNameOnlyAdaptation, with only a loose connection to the series as it's come to be known.

So basically, whatever the creators of this movie set out to do, they were setting themselves up for a lose-lose situation.

With this film being PG, I would be wouldn't be too surprised if the upcoming Sesame Street movie was PG.

Unless they're going for a Stealth Parody aproach, or a complete comedy/parody movie and are trowing us off with the trailers.

It's hard to imagine "Oh look everyone, Dora brought a knife!" to not be a little tongue-in-cheek. Obviously it is skewing older than the preschool curriculum model of the original show, but it overall looks like a kid friendly, kid protagonist Indiana Jones. If it was dropping more inappropriate humor or more violent action that would be worrisome, which I think might land on how they deal with the villains. The original show had minor moments of peril already (paddling around rapids, stuff like that).

To be fair, getting a PG rating is actually pretty easy. Many kids movies shoot for one, because a G-rating generally has the negative connotations of being "kiddy" in a restrictive way, whereas the PG rating has a bit less stigma attached to it.

PG is the default rating nowadays. Almost nothing gets G rated.

I'm not sure who this film is aimed at. It has an Uncertain Audience for sure. It's not aimed at toddlers so I presume it's a nostalgia-based Darker and Edgier reboot aimed at adults who watched the show as kids. This isn't unusual in itself, but it's unusual because it's a preschool show. I've seen this done for older children's cartoons but never little kid ones. Someone probably saw the Cracked parody and thought people literally wanted a cool, tongue-in-cheek teenager Dora. I admit, the idea is interesting, but I'd rather see a cartoon or comic version.
