Overshadowed By Controversy Cleanup

Both controversies are noteworthy but I don't think they quite overshadow the film.

(and if you ask me I feel like nobody really knew/cared about Disney's treatment of Driscoll until Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers (2022) and even then they only care about it for their "grrr Mouse Corp bad, stop consooming product" rhetoric and not because of what actually happened - but I digress)

I forgot about the Peter Pan actor issue until now honestly. I'm not quite sure if Peter Pan is overshadowed as an entire brand though. The iconography from the movie (especially Tinker Bell) is still very prominent in Disney marketing, it's just that the depiction of the Natives is also a go-to "oh yikes, Disney" moment. Though is it possible to discuss the movie and not have that come up now?

It absolutely is. I don't think it's overshadowed.

I cared and knew about Driscoll and so did many people on tv tropes. It was a Tear Jerker example even but got removed once we made that trope No Real Life Examples.

And that a decade ago when that movie was NOT A THING.

It doesn't matter if people knew of it; it matters if people think of it before anything else when the film is mentioned. If anything it overshadowed the Chip and Dale movie.

I know I used a TERRIBLE wording. But I did see that LOTS of people cared about that controversy, even outside TV Tropes. What I should have said is that it was notable enough people mentioned here but didnt realize anyone can edit and it could have just been a troper with a Wonk but I did see people outside tv tropes care.

And MANY non TV Tropes then wrote articles about how Modern Day Disney cared very little about his life and how tragically it ended and how they made his character out to be a pathetic manchild.

The new movie outright villainizes a stand in for Peter Pan's actor, essentially being Disney rubbing in his face post-mortum that they ruined his life, so I can see it qualifying.

I suspect most of those are people who study Disney history, whereas casual Disney fans don't really seem to care about it. I don't think it counts if the controversy is most well known within a group of enthusiasts.

"Casual Disney Fans" you do realize that its not about the Disney fans but what people OUTSIDE of that feel? Many did point that out, even non-fans in articles.

I mean... there's no real line between "casual Disney fan" and "random audience member". I don't think you could pick out enough people who don't at least appreciate even one Disney movie. Whether they're fans or not doesn't mean anything since Disney's audience and reach is massive.

If we're talking about Peter Pan, I honestly don't think the movie is overshadowed since I do think that most people found out about it when Chip and Dale came out. Some people did for sure, but you can point to people who know about any example we cut.

I disagree. What if someone did know about that BUT HATED Disney? It's not as "Obviously the same" as you say.

If they hate Disney, like... so? I don't think it matters to this discussion if the people involved like, don't care for, or hate the company. All that matters is if the information overshadows discussion of the work. That's the point I was really trying to make. Once you get into casual fandom it's much less "fandom" at all and more just passively enjoying or engaging with something. The silent majority.

Given it's more than 6 months after this controversy in May, is it safe to say Rayark counts here?

The Taiwanese rhythm game company has been tanking itself as hard as Blizzard would with political controversies, greed (of the rampant microtransactions sort ON TOP OF A PAID GAME), and something really bizarre.

To put into context from what I heard;

• An in-game song has a morse code "FREE HONG KONG" dogwhistle on it, which caused Cytus 2 to be removed in China, then was reinstated with the song blocked there. The author of that song resigned on the same month.
• CY2 has a gacha with a chance to fail and get literally nothing (CAPSO, also a nice teardown) and entire BLOCKS of paywall locked characters and stories with free songs for paid characters. Deemo II is even worse from what I heard. These are all paid games mind you (Quite ironic for some company who made a game essentially about criticizing corporate greed, huh).
• Perhaps the most bizarre part is this. Some songs got released last may and people find out all the jackets of these songs used pictures generated by Stable Diffusion. There are rumors that they fired all the artists, as the lead director complains that they are disgusted by the company dropping people in favor of using Stable Diffusion to generate jackets. They also issued an apology statement denying it and that was also apparently AI-generated through ChatGPT.

I'm never associated with any Rayark-brand community prior (I'm generally active in the Arcaea ones that Rayark did a collab with on the last year), but does anyone else familiar with the subject know how bad it actually this? This smells like Konami/EA/Blizzard all over to me, but unsure if it was really like what I thought or not.

Go all out, buddy. Everyone in the Rhythm Game community considers them the Blizzard Gaming of the Rhythm game industry.

BTW, this just got added:

• The Day Before: The game is vastly well known in the gaming community for accusations of it being a fake game and a scam. It is a survival MMO where players try to scavenge for resources in a zombie apocalypse, and it quickly shot up to becoming the most wishlisted game on Steam, but many people grew wary of perceived asset flips and a reluctance from the studio to release actual gameplay. The reaction grew more negative when a gameplay clip was released and criticized for a barren world and utilizing a character that resembled way too much of Ellie from The Last Of Us and a messy situation with the game's copyright that delayed the game further. Sadly, the fears had all been confirmed true with the full release in December 2023 - not only was the game a bug-infested mess, but many features promised in the clips were not included at all. The backlash was so overwhelming that the game was delisted from Steam only four days after the launch, dragging the developing studio down with it.

I feel it's way too soon. Remove?

Cut. Hasn't been six months. Granted the scam accusations are much older than six months, but I think the 6 month wait applies regardless.

I don't know much about the situation but I wouldn't include the "they're the Blizzard of rhythm games" part since it runs off Opinion Myopia about Blizzard. It's like saying "they're the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy of rhythm games".

No and I don't think we should even be entertaining this idea at all. Massive Flame Bait. Might as well put Germany and Japan on here over Nazism and Japanese Statism, especially the latter country since Japanese government has a history of whitewashing their past history, while we're at it. And from there we can put ANY country on here with a really violent or controversial history.

Overshadowed by Controversy: The inclusion of Harold and Howard Mc Bride seems to be rather polarizing and to make it worse the Arabic dub changes one of Clyde's fathers into a woman.

I thought the McBrides were received positively? Also, if they did have polarizing reception, I'm not even sure if this is even valid. Oh, and there's no subbullet.
