Not Tropeworthy: Designated Love Interest

It's an Audience Reaction and those are usually YMMV. The other Designated tropes are also all YMMV so it's for consistency.

Right, and making it YMMV would not at all loosen the standards, it would just make it clear that these are fan opinions about a relationship, not an objective trope. I don't see any issue. Just because something is subjective doesn't mean it can't have strict criteria- just look at Complete Monster.

I put the reasons for making it YMMV on the crowner itself, if it means anything.

Is it just me, or does that crowner miss out on some of the proposals made in thread?

I figured some of those options were already decided on, but how about this one? Please close the old crowner, then.

Some options I considered putting up, but might need approval to do so, are:

• Rename Strangled by the Red String.
• Rename Relationship Writing Fumble, create a Super-Trope for misinterpreted audience perspectives on relationships, and cut the name "Relationship Writing Fumble".
• Transplant Relationship Writing Fumble (defined as characters who are meant to be platonic are seen as being romantic) to a new name, using the name "Relationship Writing Fumble" for an index about audience interpretations of relationships.
• Rename Relationship Writing Fumble, create an index for misinterpreted audience perspectives on relationships, and cut the name "Relationship Writing Fumble".

Note that making an index would not permit examples on that page or trope pages.

I still think there's a Missing Supertrope going on here about misinterpreted character relationships in general that Relationship Writing Fumble could be renamed as rather than an index.

I see an index option but not a supertrope option. Just thought adding one might be useful/helpful.

~Phi Sat It's in the crowner itself. The options in that post outside of the crowner are ones I might or might not put there.

Just to note, the Slap-Slap-Kiss is misused. It's not a character dyanamic as much as it is a specific action. How about "to much belligerence in there sexual tension".

Any opinions of the proposed options from post 80?

Right now, the crowner options are unanimous in their opinions (although we're technically at Day 1 due to the recent hook). I don't think we need the additional suggestions in post #80 to solve this thread's problem. I would instead recommend a wait-and-see approach for a few months/year after the changes decided upon by this crowner are enacted.

I know crowners are borked, but I think this one can be called?

Since histories are preserved, we should still be able to call.

Anyways, calling in favor of making the trope YMMV.

Does that exclude the other options? I feel like the "Supertrope" and "Rename" ideas aren't mutually exclusive with a move to YMMV, and all of those ideas have received unanimous consensus; just one vote shy of a three-way-tie.

I thought all the crowner options were going to be applied since none of them were mutually exclusive and all of them were voted up.

I moved Designated Love Interest to the YMMV page. Now let's move and clean up wicks.

So we're just not doing the other options, then? The YMMV idea was, if I remember correctly, supplemental to the other ideas. It's not going to fix the misuse on it's own.

I thought we were doing all the options, since they were all supplemental and were unanimously approved.

In other words, we will:

• Make Designated Love Interest YMMV.
• Define Designated Love Interest as romantic relationships being seen as platonic.
• Launch Displacement: Relationship Writing Fumble as a Super-Trope, platonic-as-romantic misinterpretations to a new name.

The one downvoted option, by the way, was "Cut Designated Love Interest." That's not happening.
