The description says that this trope is a specific form of Pre-Asskicking One-Liner. This is a bad sign.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportThat is a fair point, I missed that when I was reading through. All the same I do think there is an interesting distinction here of this being at the lowest point for the hero in the battle.
Given that Pre-Asskicking One-Liner does have a list of common variations, perhaps adding this specific form to it would be the way to go then.
Merge with Pre Ass Kicking One Liner due to being The Same, but More Specific of that trope, and list the situation Pre Ass Kicking Mutter describes as a common variation if they do get merged.

This.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Agreed.
Health sure is versatile. It's possible to be both light-headed and dim-witted. At the same time, no less. This is pretty small, so I can merge everything once we are at a final decision, if that is what we decide on. In the mean time hows this sound as the new variation bullet for Pre-Asskicking One-Liner? I took parts from its description and shortened it up some.
- In a last bit of defiance by the hero, he tries to say something while at the mercy of the villain. The villain, overly cocksure of their victory and superiority, lightens their grip and leans in, asking the hero to speak up. The hero says what they were trying to say, before opening a can of whoopass.
I agree with the merge, but the suggested write-up is much more verbose than the other explanations of the variants. What about:
- A form of inversion where the hero's ass is the one being kicked but at the low point of the fight, they get a chance to say the one-liner before getting Heroic Resolve and kick their opponent's ass.
That's not an inversion. It's still a one-liner preceding an asskicking.
Replace "form of inversion" with "variant" because, as mentioned, it isn't an inversion.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Only half the examples are really fitting under Pre-Asskicking One-Liner.
Hmm, I feel all of the examples fit under Pre Asskicking Mutter, and if we add it as a variant to Pre-Asskicking One-Liner I don't see why then any of these examples would not fit under it.
What examples do you feel not fit?
- Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker — not seeing the ass kicking
- Sinfest — fits the current trope but not the asskicking supertrope
- The Bone Collector — has no one liner
I can agree with you on the examples for The Bone Collector and Sinfest but I feel the Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker examples are still pretty good even if the ass kicking is more limited.
Barring the examples it seems everyone is fine with this change. Should I go ahead and work this, any need for a crowner? For reference here is what I'll put as the new variation:
- A variation where the hero's ass is the one being kicked but at the low point of the fight, they get a chance to say the one-liner before getting Heroic Resolve and kick their opponent's ass.
If we are left with four examples, this is rather a case for TLP.
Would we want to TLP a merge?
6 votes for merging Pre Asskicking Mutter under Pre-Asskicking One-Liner. No vote against it.
Latest proposal for the bullet point:
- A variant where the hero's ass is the one being kicked but at the low point of the fight, they get a chance to say the one-liner before getting Heroic Resolve and kick their opponent's ass.
Is this a go?
I agree with the proposal at 17 ().
Look at all that shiny stuff ain't they prettyHealth sure is versatile. It's possible to be both light-headed and dim-witted. At the same time, no less.
I'm not too familiar with TRS procedure. Do we need to have a crowner? Or since everyone seems to be in agreement should someone just go ahead and do the merge and cut?
Clock is set.

I vote as such.

This trope has been around since 2010. It has 6 examples and has brought 89 people to the wiki since January 1st 2012. Its last update was December 6th 2017, which is less than a year, but the last time a new example was added was August 31st 2013.
I feel the core idea of the trope is pretty good, though a better description might help it out. Otherwise this probably should be merged with another trope and cut.
