Super Smash Bros Ultimate (SPOILER Thread)

It's probably a Samurai Shodown character, since that game is getting a Switch port released soon. Could be Haohmaru, though he's already guesting in Soulcalibur VI, so I don't know exactly how likely he is. Maybe Nakoruru, if that "leak" mentioning a female character is also true.

That leaker changed his statement claiming it wasn't female. So that leak holds no water.

Interesting note: Terry Bogard had several guest appearances last year so i'm not surprised if he is the 4th character

That post says that if it's misplaced, it would be for SNK Heroines DLC.

I haven't heard anything about SNK Heroines getting more DLC. It might be true, and possibly announced in the next Direct since that game's on Switch but until it's confirmed, that could just be from someone hoping against hope the next Smash DLC character is someone else.

You mean this post where the leaker claims the character is actually a purple car? At that point, the "leak" is starting to sound like a joke (there's only one character I know of that fits that description, and there's no way in the nine circles of Dante's Inferno that he's ever getting into Smash), and since it's 4chan I don't know if it's even the same guy.

Hm. If the leak is true, that's 4/5 characters that don't particularly interest me. I want them all regardless so I don't regret buying the fighter's pass, but hopefully the last one will be someone I'd like to see. Doomguy, Crash Bandicoot, Scorpion, or Phoenix Wright would make the fighter's pass worth it on their own for me...

What a timeline when Doomguy is the most likely of those 4 choices to be in Smash.

1st party is pretty much out the window, so I wouldn't even think of suggesting anyone right now that's not 3rd party.

Yeah, there's first parties I'd like, but it doesn't seem very likely we'll get any for this fighter's pass.

1st parties don't seem to be in a great position, but they're hardly off the table. They incidentally fit the "unexpected" bit at times too. Depending which one. Any Spirit, for instance, would be unexpected.

It's be interesting what happens though.

I think a second Fighter's Pass with first party characters could happen, with characters like Rex and Pyra, Byleth or Edelgard, and whatever Grookey's final form is leading the charge.

It's not a misplaced DLC since all of them have the same filesizes.

A Second Fighter's Pass with just first party characters is an easy sell even if it included a semi-clone or two. Xenoblade 2 rep, Three Houses character, Bandana Dee, Dixie Kong, & Impa would be an easy sell.

You can easily make multiple good character passes using only characters who are already in the game as only spirits.

Like Geno; Ray Mk II; Waluigi; Shovel Knight; Shantae; etc.

Yep. He's enhanced from the regular Toad Spirit.

Are we still thinking an SNK character might make it in.

If they do, and we get music from The King of Fighters and/or Fatal Fury, I hope we get this song:

The SNK thing is looking as solid as a leak can. It'll be a main character, whoever it is.

Marco Rossi (Metal Slug) would be pretty dope.

I'm guessing someone from Metal Slug too. Or, for maximum character tourism: Haohmaru from Samurai Shodown.

If we get anyone from KOF, it'd be either Terry, Kyo, Iori or Athena. I would actually really dig Athena or Terry in Smash.

Though actually... Haohmaru would be kind of interesting, and with us just finding out that Samurai Shodown is coming to Switch, he has the advertisement factor. We have a bunch of sword users, but no samurai, and there's a relatively unique movelist attached to Haohmaru.

That said, despite everything I've just said, I think I'd prefer another character who isn't from a fighting game already - I love seeing the Smash crew creatively reference gameplay in unintended ways through move their design.

On the other, other hand, I'm echoing KOF music being awesome.

Gonna put on my WMG hat and try to narrow down who the SNK character could be...

Here's a list of all the SNK characters that have already made (or will be making in one case) guest appearances in other fighting games during this console generation...

• Mai Shiranui in Dead or Alive 5: Last Round
• Geese Howard in Tekken 7
• Terry Bogard in Fighting EX Layer
• Iori Yagami in Million Arthur Arcana Blood
• Mai Shiranui again and Kula Diamond in Dead or Alive 6
• Haohmaru in Soul Calibur VI

Every time, it's usually a different SNK character per series. The Smash Ultimate Guest Fighter might be one of these, but if they're following the pattern I think they are, it will probably be someone who hasn't been a Guest Fighter yet.

Assuming that's true, I think the most likely choices are Kyo Kusanagi (the main character and face of The King of Fighters, a popular series that Sakurai has admitted to being at least a partial inspiration for Smash Bros.) or Nakoruru (one of the main recurring characters in Samurai Shodown, and the latest game in that series is getting a Switch port, so it would make sense to include a character to promote that release... plus, she could technically be considered a KoF rep as well since she appeared in XIV).

I still think whoever it is is going to be a main character. Nakoruru is too far off base. Mai, too. Itd be like getting a BlazBlue character, but its Bang instead of Ragna. Or Faust over Sol if you prefer Guilty Gear.

No idea what you mean by "too far off base". Again, Nakoruru's a main recurring character in her series, having an almost perfect attendance in both the main series and most spin-offs, and as far as I know, she's also the only Samurai Shodown character to appear in King of Fighters in a playable capacity (specifically in XIV). She also even appears in most of the Capcom Vs. SNK crossovers, usually accompanying Haohmaru, and in one game being the sole Samurai Shodown rep.

I know that Smash Ultimate usually tends to focus on main characters (barring exceptions like Pikachu, Rosalina, and Piranha Plant), and if Samurai Shodown gets a character it will likely Haohmaru. I just also think Nakoruru has just as much of a good chance.

Pikachu isn't really a main character, though. It's more of a mascot for the Pokemon series, which arguably wouldn't get its main character in Smash until Pokemon Trainer in Brawl.

Those characters you mentioned are in because their main characters are already in. Like, Mario's in so they can put Rosalina later.
