Answers to Frequently Asked Questions
- Why did we do this? This update has been in development for over a year. It replaces a vast amount of messy code on the back-end, gives us a new modernized design, updates us to https, and creates a platform that we can more easily build on for future updates.
- Can we go back to the old design? This isn't happening. We'll make the new one work.
- Why are there so many bugs? As with any major overhaul, some problems will occur. The developers are working full-time on fixing stuff.

- Where'd the "Folders Open" toggle go? Not a bug, it's in your profile.
- Multiple issues with the new site search feature. [Logged]
- No sorting options.
- Forum poster search is gone. [FIXED]
- Can't search specifically by thread title, making results unhelpful.
- Pagination doesn't work correctly — the last page displays as if there were no search results.
- Line breaks don't work in some areas. (Ask The Tropers, Trope Launch Pad, forum previews) [Patched]
- ATT, TLP, forum previews fixed. Some more line breaking issues were identified and are being worked on.
- The Cut List does not work.
- Cannot approve or deny requests. [FIXED]

- Note, subscript, and superscript formatting are broken in various places. [FIXED]
- Night vision has significant readability problems. [Patched]

- Articles may become locked when edited, or when backing out of editing without clicking Cancel. Moderators can remove the locks but can't fix the underlying problem. [Patched]
- Remaining issue: the lock system still doesn't distinguish between an article that's locked and one that's checked out for editing.
- Edits won't save when "<" or ">" characters are present in the markup. [Patched]
- HTML detection was disabled for the time being. We're working on a more robust system.
- Edits won't save when the [norreallife] tag is present in the markup. [FIXED]
- Redirects are broken. [Patched]
- This is at least partially fixed. We need to know if there are any remaining problems.

- Images on wiki articles are rendered smaller than in the previous design. [Patched]

- The "Following" list (formerly called the Watchlist) doesn't distinguish visually between viewed and unviewed articles. [In Progress]
- Custom titles are no longer appearing in all places where they should. [FIXED]
- In-line icons for Flame Bait, Trivia, and YMMV wicks are intended, but sometimes overlap preceding text. [Patched]
- Trivia icons should not appear in-line. (Design issue, logged)
- In second-level bullets, icons overlap preceding text. [Logged]
- The [invoked] tag no longer suppresses the aforementioned icons. [Logged]
- [quoteblock] markup causes everything inside to appear italic and squashed together. [FIXED]
- Line breaking for external links doesn't work correctly. [FIXED]
- Post numbering is no longer visible, although you can retrieve it from the hard-link. [Logged]
- "Delete all posts by user" mod feature now causes posts to be completely hidden instead of replaced with "Troll Post". [Logged]
- "Mark all as read" forum feature doesn't work. [Logged]

I agree with Mr Media Guy 2, I'd very much like a way to stay in the old layout.
(preferably I'd like to go back to like, 2 layouts ago but I figure that's kinda impossible)
I've had to log out of several other user accounts before I could get into my own, and half my user profile options are cut off by the top of the page. I miss the old layout already.

For the sake of Image Pickin' threads (though I'm sure there are other uses for this) can we bring back the sequential numbers above each post?
I agree about the color scheme. Might work better with a lighter shade of blue? And I'm also having the issue where some threads (namely this one) are "private" when I try to reply. (I got un-known earlier but it's fixed now)
(EDIT: Ninja'd, but I too would like a way to go back.)

I don't really anticipate a way to use the old style. It's never happened after any previous major redesigns have been implemented.

Shocking Gun!
Internet Explorer here, quite a few problems from my part. Like when you click on the avatar, the dropbox is thrown up in a way that it only shows messages and log out. Also it doesn't seem to remember what display settings you have put even though it shows them being on.

Also I'm receiving messages not intended for me on my own account, and I when I change to someone elses I get full access to their profile, which isn't good.
Found a glitch: On the forums, clicking "mark all as read" glitches when you're doing it for an entire section, instead of an individual subforum. So it works on Wiki Talk, but glitches on Wiki and Forums.
"Replies to Active YKTTW's:" shows up as blank for me and I can't find the old YKKTWs I was following (like ASMR, Open Source, etc.)
Oh, and just in case my account doesn't show up correctly, I'm Mickoonsley 19.

Is it normal for Today's featured Trope to not actually tell you what the name of today's featured trope?

Also why is the text style when I type a post now different? It's not exactly a deal breaker but it is highly distracting and looks ugly to me. Personal hangup but I'm probably not the only one.

The avatar galleries show avatars for tropers on only one column, even if you have a rather wide desktop computer and Wide Load on, see this.
Also, those page switch buttons at the bottom look poor.

Not a fan of the new Night Vision colors, the removal of Show Spoilers from the Display, or the change to folders; the Heartwarming/Awesome/Funny/Awesome Music pages for works (alongside Nightmare Fuel) doesn't exactly look appealing, and the overall condensed look (don't know if it's apart of the change naturally or something to do with Firefox) is annoying.
EDIT: Not really a fan of how (on at least the Super Smash Bros Meme page) the text for the explanation info-thing (don't know the term off the top of my head) is the same size as the actual text itself, but once you click it to read the explanation, it's smaller then the actual text.

I was somehow logged onto another person's account and had to log out. I am using an incognito tab by the way.
I am really, really not liking this new layout. It showed me as logged in to someone else's account, its completely fucking hideous, and apparently its riddled with glitches.
