1.8 overhaul or why did the site just change on me?

Go To

We've just pushed a large overhaul public. Please report complaints, comments and concerns here. When reporting bugs, please make sure you include which browser(s) and platform(s) you have encountered the issue with.

Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why did we do this? This update has been in development for over a year. It replaces a vast amount of messy code on the back-end, gives us a new modernized design, updates us to https, and creates a platform that we can more easily build on for future updates.
  • Can we go back to the old design? This isn't happening. We'll make the new one work.
  • Why are there so many bugs? As with any major overhaul, some problems will occur. The developers are working full-time on fixing stuff.

Frequently Reported Issues

This isn't everything, just the most common problems.

    General Site Issues
  • Being logged in as someone else, sort of. [FIXED]
  • Where'd the "Folders Open" toggle go? Not a bug, it's in your profile.
  • Multiple issues with the new site search feature. [Logged]
    • No sorting options.
    • Forum poster search is gone. [FIXED]
    • Can't search specifically by thread title, making results unhelpful.
    • Pagination doesn't work correctly — the last page displays as if there were no search results.
  • Line breaks don't work in some areas. (Ask The Tropers, Trope Launch Pad, forum previews) [Patched]
    • ATT, TLP, forum previews fixed. Some more line breaking issues were identified and are being worked on.
  • The Cut List does not work.
    • Cannot approve or deny requests. [FIXED]
    • Line breaks don't work. [FIXED]
    • Cut request reasons don't appear. [FIXED]

  • Images on wiki articles are rendered smaller than in the previous design. [Patched]
    • Resizing images with [quoteright] tags is still broken.
  • The "Following" list (formerly called the Watchlist) doesn't distinguish visually between viewed and unviewed articles. [In Progress]
  • Custom titles are no longer appearing in all places where they should. [FIXED]
  • In-line icons for Flame Bait, Trivia, and YMMV wicks are intended, but sometimes overlap preceding text. [Patched]
    • Trivia icons should not appear in-line. (Design issue, logged)
    • In second-level bullets, icons overlap preceding text. [Logged]
  • The [invoked] tag no longer suppresses the aforementioned icons. [Logged]

    Forum Issues
  • [quoteblock] markup causes everything inside to appear italic and squashed together. [FIXED]
  • Line breaking for external links doesn't work correctly. [FIXED]

Sorry to be a bother about this but the backslash issue on discussion posts is still showing up for me and I still don't see it logged anywhere. It's only in discussion posts (I don't think the text content has anything to do with it), and only in new discussion posts made after the update. See this page for comments made by me before and after the update. Both have " or ' characters, but only the new one has the bug. Firefox on a Mac.

I noticed this while doing my usual work on Blazing Souls Accelate.

Let me put it like this. Pressing Enter twice in the edit to make a linebreak space will result as only one linebreak in the wiki article itself, gluing the paragraphs together.

Like This. Yes, there is a line break between these two words.

Okay, this is weird. That said, why is the linebreak around the pages and forums acting so weird?

There appears to be a new resizing issue with images, in that pics wider than 326 px are being squashed down to that width.

Reposting this from the previous page in case it was missed:

"Threads with post collisions got renumbered. The fact that hard links to those topics go to the wrong posts is an unavoidable side-effect."

I see... outta curiosity, is there any way y'all could fix this side-effect? It's a little jarring when I use Find Posts by Troper and click on a link to one of said posts only to wind up at a completely different post altogether.

~Zero Dozer: A single line break has always worked that way since the start of the wiki. That said, right now it is failing to add a space between the two lines, which is an acknowledged bug. We're looking at some changes to breaking anyway, of which that would be one.

@Itcdr: A link that should've led me to this post instead took me to this one, which is a few pages back from the former post.

It's possible that the watchlist got its indexing messed up, but it should be working after any new posts. I had a few threads show up unread when they weren't, but that's because the post numbers on a lot of threads got inflated.

I can't make a thread I was really needing to make to ask for help with something involving starting a new page.

When I click "Create Thread" it leads me to a white page that says "Sorry, no discussion with that id exists."

I've mentioned it once before here, but it got lost in the shuffle:

The text shown on empty pages still mentions "the YKTTW system". Not exactly a 1.8 "bug" (was probably a problem since YKTTW became Trope Launch Pad) and certainly not a major problem, but it would be nice to finally update it.

Speaking of which, the Trope Launch Pad "main" link doesn't auto-redirect like it should.

All right. Overhaul is out for quite a while.

Did greasemonkey plugin to change colors + images (all rest can stay, just this color palette :/ and with old palette new images wouldn't work) to original ones?

I found a glitch that is seriously frustrating me.

I keep a log of my favorite RP sessions on this site by getting the timestamp and copying/pasting the link into a Google Doc.

I went and painstakingly got a bunch of them.

I used it like two days ago and it was fine.

However, now I'm using it and all of these links lead to the wrong posts for some reason. They all seem to be several days (at least) before the messages I intended for them to link to.

For example, I know for 100% certain that my first post in Our Avatars Are in a Room Together was on page 50,770 and I posted on August 29th. I memorized it.

Now, when I go to that page my first post is nowhere to be found and the post is from August 25th.

Is there a way to fix this? Having this log was extremely helpful for my R Ping, and I don't want to have to hunt down all of my posts again and restart the entire list from scratch.

I know that this isn't involving the Wiki, but it's something that is seriously frustrating to me. It is more frustrating than all of the other glitches that have happened so far.

I ask that someone try to figure out what happened and how to fix it, please.

[up] The forums were recently reindexed to fix problems with duplicate post IDs. This has had the side effect of breaking permanent post links in affected threads. There is no way to get the old IDs back; sorry.

I'm having a return problem of not seeing the edit page and other links on the top of the page on my I Pad. Also, I'm unable to edit any forum post I make and I can't open and folders.

Did the "Upload Image" button disappear on work pages? Because I'm on PC and I still can't find it.

This account is dead. I’ve said a lot of dumb things in the past and I wish to forget them. I’m sorry if I’ve ever hurt anyone.

[up] So far as I know it’s only on the edit page right now. The idea is that it saves a step since you need to edit the image into the page after you upload it anyway, but there certainly is a discoverability cost.

(Windows 10, Chrome)

The message mentioning that someone is editing a page will appear when you click Edit Page in an article's History page, but not in the article itself.

Don't know if anyone else has mentioned this, but at least on mobile (iPhone Safari, iOS 10) I routinely see external links appearing on a new line, breaking the reading flow. It happens just inconsistently enough, with very short links not usually triggering it, that I almost wonder if spaces within external links are being treated as nonbreaking spaces, except that often the text after the link will be on a separate line, leaving the link on its own line, even when there wouldn't normally be a line break there.

For some reason after redirecting VideoGame.Touhou to Franchise.Touhou, the works under the latter's index have both of them show up at the indexing portion at the bottom of the page rather than just Franchise.Touhou, which isn't shared by other works with similar redirects.

Already tried null editing the works involved but it doesn't seem to get rid of it.
