the Switch can handle Skyrim, Doze so yes it can handle at the very least, the Wii version of RE 4 perfectly fine, maybe even the HD graphics ones if we be so bold

So yes, RE 4, unblemished, unfucked with, now portable with no fuckabouts.

Noting that the first post is initially about the amount of consoles RE4 was ported to.

But good of you to note the enormous mess the iOS version was.

Growing up, it's like a civil war, don't turn away, it's something you can't ignore...

I first got RE 4 on the Wii, then iOS, then Ultimate HD on Steam. I will definitely be getting the Switch version at some point.

I wonder if they'll include the motion controls from the Wii version?

I guess? If they can get those to work, they could work.

Caddicarus just did a video about the original game if anyone's interested

Speaking of Resi youtubers I'd also recommend The Sphere Hunter (AKA Suzi) as she's really informative and well spoken about the RE games too.

[up]Yep, I just started watching Sue's videos and she's great.

TBH I'm not even a huge fan of RE but I'm excited for the R E2make. Everything about it (the more serious/realistic tone of the story, the amazing animation and visual fidelity, the tense atmosphere, etc) appeals to me a lot.

I loved her vid on Parasite Eve as well (and am thankful she too dislikes what 3rd Birthday did to Aya.) Also her devil form in the DMC video....wow.

ANYWAY yeah, the RE 2 remake looks like quite a different game from the original and yet is still RE 2, don't know if that makes sense to say or not but yeah. I'm real eager to play it either way. Also, Halloween is coming up so I'm totally gonna start a new file on RE 4 for kicks and play some RE 2 again, A rankin' in less than 2 hours like I always do because I'm good at that.

I love that they've given Mr. X a hat in the remake. Dark Id would be proud.

Well, it is a more muted Linkara trilby as opposed to the glorious sombrero Id gave him but yeah.

Though I also remember Id saying he's kinda embarrassed of some of the stereotype jokes and stuff he used to crack back in the day. He even outright regrets the use of all them ableist slurs he used to sling around so casually back in the day. Comes with being a father I guess. And good on him too.

So, here's something kinda cool.

RE 2 remake is gonna have HD versions of the classic costumes for free.

However, whilst Leon's classic outfit looks like a faithful adaptation of his original uniform, I can't help but feel that something's a little off about Claire's...

Essentially, they've removed the black t-shirt that she originally wore under her vest, showing a fair bit more skin, and a little cleavage. Which is a little disappointing.

Other than that, the idea of having the classic outfits in the remake is kinda cool.

I'm not even sure why they would change Claire's original outfit. It's just jarring to look at.

For the life of me other than that weird white-straps Leon has on his fore-arm I can't tell what's different from his new design.

You be the judge. Although that might not be the best comparison but I can't think of a better one.

I kinda wish they'd just include their original PSONE polygonal models personally.

So I'm checking out a timeline video by Gamer Thumbs TV.

Wow... a lot of stuff was happening during the timeline of the second game: multiple mercenaries groups, Jill, Claire and Leon's stories, the events of Outbreak.

Racoon City was busy wasn't it?

[up]A couple things went into that-the rushed development of 3 after a great deal of work had already been done on CV.

Also kinda writing themselves into a corner, in a larger sense. The Raccoon City incident is so huge and impactful that you cannot just keep dropping large scale incidents all over the place and not have Umbrella getting its metaphorical head caved in by every government on the planet; otherwise it breaks whatever is left of the suspension of disbelief. So, until they felt comfortable advancing the storyline, all the 'large-scale' urban incidents get dovetailed into Raccoon city, with the rest generally taking place in isolated locations with small populations. Of course, the urban setting with a huge population was too good to pass up, so back and back and back to Raccoon we went.

I guess. I do suppose it's the ideal place for a multiple Gaiden stories, even if the number of people stumbling across abandoned Umbrella labs (and the number of abandoned umbrella labs) is kinda ridiculous.

Umbrella never stood a chance considering how many survivors there were with evidence of their bullshit. I guess when you screw over that many people, even nukes are surefire enough.cool

[up]Thermobaric device, actually-they only nuked Raccoon City in the movie-verse.

Good point. A nuke would have done more damage well beyond the target area.

It's more the Nuclear Weapons Taboo than what would have made sense.

EDIT: Apparently Degeneration (the canon CGI movie)'s retconned it back to a nuke.

[up]It was thermobaric: because the device itself was top secret and experimental, its specifics were not revealed until later. Seeing a huge explosion wipe out a city without an official statement as to how left people assuming it was a nuclear strike until some time later, hence the news reports we see in universe referring to it as nuclear, such as the first wave of reports see in Flash Back in Degeneration. This was clarified in the Resident Evil Archives series.

Regarding Jill... We know how very unrealistic is the claim in RE 3 that she's ex-Delta Force, because even if we assume Gender Is No Object in the US military of REverse she's still too young to be so (age 23 by the time of RE1). And that lead to later games only talking about her training and skills in general terms without reference to being a member of any military body. So... How plausible is it to suppose that her dad was ex-military (possibly even a member of a US spec-ops unit, whether Delta Force or Army Rangers or whatever) and he extensively trained her during her teenage years for some reason?

Plausible enough if they only refer to A Valentine being ex-Delta force, not specifically Jill. Records can be fudged like that.

Speaking of RE 3, my new favourite Youtuber Suzi/The Sphere Hunter just did a vid on RE 3, wrapping up her retrospective on the original games.
