Not Tropeworthy: Useful Notes.Todmorden

Todmorden seems to be a random enough filming location page. I don't think we should let such examples linger around as useful notes, lest we get run over with more of the same.

I was all set to agree with a cut, but I checked The Other Wiki, and they do have a section on the town's appearances in media, which is not something you find on the other randomly selected small British town articles I looked at.

So I think there's more of a case for this page than would appear at first glance. I think I still lean cut, though.

I don't care for UsefulNotes.Other British Towns And Cities either. When did the listing of cities in England become useful to our core business? Do we have a policy for what's regarded notable content and what's not?

With a bunch of works listed that takes place or are recorded there, it has some relevance to the wiki. There's probably a little too much detail to it, but that's not exactly a major problem.

Also, "it might encourage more similar pages" is not an argument unless you actually have more pages of the same kind that are creating a problem.

^^ What I wanted to express is that the example of Todmorden could be used to justify keeping other similar useless pet projects on here (my opinion), like UsefulNotes.Albuquerque, UsefulNotes.Other Cities In Texas, UsefulNotes.New York City Subway, UsefulNotes.Wildland Firefighting etc.

Perhaps this is a topic that should be discussed somewhere else. Perhaps there should be a dedicated cutting/clean-up thread like we have for tagging Trivia pages where users can vote on the relevance of Useful Notes to be kept or cut. After all this is a largely unexamined area of our wiki.

I don't think it's justified to keep all that text. Most of it is more or less useless, especially things like a list of landmarks or a detailed description of subway routes.

What you really need is:

• A brief description of the location. By "brief" I mean something similar to a regular trope. Not the complete town history or whatever.
• Examples of works using the location. This is where you can add additional details about more specific locations.

More than that is not necessary, and only adds clutter.

This page doesn't seem worse than a lot of other useful note pages. I think this could probably be sorted out elsewhere. We probably need some kind of Long-Term Project to handle the Useful Notes namespace, to sort out what is and isn't appropriate there.

While I agree with the usefulnesss of such a thread, this particular UN page is here on our (TRS's) doorstep. I say we have a reasonable consensus for cutting this plarticular page, and so we should cut it. If anyone wants to repost significant details onto the aforementioned "other English towns" page, then I don't think this thread is the place to discuss that. It also isn't really the place to discuss similar UN pages.

I think we could clear this issue out of the backlog, tbh.

Why? Why should we have a Useful Notes page for some random English town? Should we have Useful Notes pages for American towns? I've never been to Sarasota, Florida, but I could make one with Google.
