Yeah, in general, look along the way to the second-ring town (Victors Hollow, Stillsnow, etc.) that is directly out from where the person of that job started. Cleric is in the north, for instance, and Merchant is in the east.
It's been fun.I found all the other shrines but totally failed my spot checks for those 2 XD
The Protomen enhanced my life.Well, I started with Ophilia and I ended with Ophilia, which made for very cute bookends to the whole thing and had the perk of only having to sit through the credits once, but it also means I've spent 70+ hours with Phili in the party.
This is gonna be a bit of a transition...
i. hear. a. sound. The credits only roll once, after your starter's story. Possibly after the postgame, but I haven't done that yet.
Speaking of, I'm trying to do all of the sidequests before that and the Direwolf was a bitch and a half. Eventually it came down to good ol' Leghold Trap, staggering how I kill his minion wolves so he doesn't get too many fresh ones at once, and lots and lots of Runelord Tressa sidestepping and praying that he doesn't use Lunar Howl. On the plus side, Team OCTO has nearly caught up to Team PATH, who've been doing nothing but chilling in the tavern buying Primrose thank-you drinks for the past while.
I heard you like baseball remixes of Battle 1

"Have a good day. Have a good week. Have a good month. Have a good year. Have a good life." ~CiviaCatcher Ringabel is pretty rad.
But there's nine people on a baseball team... Who's the last? Kit?
Having just finished chapter 1 for everyone, I have noticed a pattern (Ch 1 spoilers):
- Ophilia: Goes on a journey, because an old man is dying.
- Cyrus: Goes on a journey, because an old man sent him on a sabbatical.
- Tressa: Goes on a journey because a pirate (an old man) encouraged her to do so.
- Olberic: Goes on a journey, because the king (an old man) got killed.
- Primrose: Goes on a journey, because her old man got killed. She was also enslaved by an old man (Was Helgenish's age revealed?)
- Alyfyn: Goes on a journey, to find an old man: the other apothecary.
- Therion: Goes on a journey, because an old man put a Mark of Shame on him.
- H'annit: Goes on a journey, because her master, an old man, went missing.
I mean, if you're just gonna be reductive that way, sure. Anyone can make a pattern by being reductive enough.
(Especially since a lot of your entries aren't accurate)
Alfyn isn't looking for anyone.
Leon didn't encourage Tressa to travel, she did that on her own. (Nor is Leon portrayed as particularly old)
Olberic isn't traveling because his king is dead - that's happened a decade ago and its why he exiled himself. We also don't know the age of the king when he died. Could be younger than Olberic himself is.

Yeah, Leon's probably closer in age to Olberic or Cyrus.
Also Yvon never struck me as that old.
Not all the chapters are caused DIRECTLY by old men lol. These are all found in Chapter 1 btw so no spoilers really.
-Alfyn isn't looking for anyone. In fact, the game specifically mentions that he just wants to help people LIKE the Apothecary that saved him. He wants to do good deeds because he was inspired by the man. He never mentions wanting to find him.
-Olberic's kingdom has been dead for years. He isn't looking for a new king, he's just trying to find his purpose because in medieval times (I know this is a fantasy, but still) Kings were considered akin to God (or Gods in this case) so to literally not have a king as a Knight would totally mess up your sense of worth because your worth was determined by your King.
-I honestly feel that people seem to misinterpret Primrose a bit. She mentions in her chapter that the trauma of loosing her father doesn't even bother her much anymore. She remembers him fondly, but she's more or less only out for revenge for losing everything at this point.
-Ophelia really didn't do the pilgrimage because of her old man. She did it for her sister because she wants her sister to be with their father during his last moments. It's pretty much implied in the first chapter that she doesn't see herself being a "huge" part of the family anyways. She's pretty aware that she's adopted that's all I'm saying.
-Cyrus was clearly not a victim of old men either. In fact, his true victim is his ignorance and being framed by a girl who was too stupid to realize how he's an idiot.
-Did Tressa even meet an old man? By his sprite, the pirate looks pretty middle-aged. We don't even know the looks or name of the guy in the book for the first chapter.
-With Therion it was a set up anyways by the lady of the house so it's really her bidding. The butler's just doing his job.
-The only one I can recall say who's truly directly affected is Hann't, but even then, her master is basically her father and only family figure. Her caring for his safety is not that far of a stretch.
tl;dr I think it's a bit shallow to say that all the characters were the victim of old men when really it's far more complicated then that.
Yeah, Prim's quest for revenge is pretty clearly an excuse, even for herself. It's the thing she's doing to keep herself unbowed and unbroken.
It's been fun.Leon's 33. The apothecary who helped Alfyn was in his twenties at the time. You have a very broad definition of "old man."
Also, tried the final boss. It ended up taking so long that I died on purpose because I was getting extremely bored. Might just call it a game since I've 100%ed everything outside of that, or look up some cheese strat so I can see the true ending, but I really don't feel up to another honest attempt at the moment.
Geez, the characters are consistently younger than I think they are, except Alfyn, who is exactly where I expected him to be, and Tressa, who is older.
i. hear. a. sound.Huh, is that information available anywhere? I feel like Tressa's 15 or 16 at most. Alfyn's... like 20?
It's been fun.NPC ages come from scrutinize, travelers are in the Japanese website bios.
Tressa: 18
Ophilia: 20
Alfyn: 21
Therion: 22
Primrose: 23
H'aanit: 26
Cyrus: 30
Olberic: 35
Yeah, I'd expected Olberic to be 40 at least...
i. hear. a. sound.Remember, the age rule of JRPG. Anyone described as seasoned or veteran will be 10 to 15 years younger than their rep indicates :-P
His sprite literally has white hair and a white beard, so, ya know, that's understandable.
Also Tressa is WAY older than her plot indicates, in a weird reversal of usual JRPG? The game characterizes her as like being The Baby of the Bunch. She's clearly a teen. Nope, she's 18. Like, the plot is clearly written with her being 14 to 16 in mind. Not her being 18.

One that struck me as odd was the relative ages of Cyrus and Odette. From their interactions I assumed they were roughly the same age and had been students together. Nope: she's a full decade older than him.
Oh, Odette? Yeah, I kind of got that feeling - he's got a sort of 'young fellow disciple who grew up and got distractingly handsome' sort of feel when she talks to him.
I didn't peg him at 30, though. That's rather higher than I expected.
It's been fun.Let's be a bit fair to Tressa. When you live in a world in which monsters can kill you at any moment, I'd be hesitant to let her out into world too. You can say that she's physically mature, but mentally she still has a lot of catching up to do. You see this in her travel banther when you talk to the other characters as well. Her parents didn't even want her to leave at the end of her chapter. Chances are if she didn't get involved with the pirate stuff she wouldn't have left town until a bit later.
Tressa I would say was clearly made for beginners in mind. She seems like the safest option to me. A younger traveler going into the world to explore. She's naiive, but she has a heart of gold. Sounds pretty basic for an JRPG so I wouldn't be surprised if they had her as a base option for people who weren't sure what they wanted. Same with Alfyn wanting to help people as his motive.
Though I do have to say...the routes for both them definitely took a turn I wasn't expecting.

I mean, I know it's RPG logic, but I'm consistently shocked to see people out on their own in the travel zones given how you get ambushed by roving packs of rat bandits or giant angry salamanders every 15-20 steps. They can't even be Actually Four Mooks or Party in My Pocket because that doesn't apply in Octopath!
It's been fun.Actually considering how common those elemental attack items are as pickpocket loot, I just assume that NP Cs that are too weak to fight the monsters in their area just carry a couple of those around for self defense.
