Man, it does sound like Flynn is using old stuff used in the pre-reboot universe. I kind of like it.

Maybe it's Metal Sonic pretending to be him again.

Bad News, it was confirmed yesterday at SDCC that Sega are not allowing Team Hooligan (Nack/Fang, Bark & Bean) to be used in the comics or "Modern" Sonic Games. The reasons appear to be the same as for Mighty and Ray, establishing the "Classic" and "Modern" games as separate continuities and not wanting them to mix, even in adaptations.

Maybe we'll see them in a Mania sequel?

I don't know who to blame here, Sega or the Classic Sonic purists.

What would a Sonic/Samurai Jack crossover comic be like? What would be the plot? How would the characters play off of each other? And would there be any issues when mashing the two series together?

In all seriousness, how would a crossover like this work?

Sega is really anal about it's adaptions, which makes them really annoying.

Holy shit, the art was on point in this issue.

Just a heads-up for people troping the series, we're only on the second story arc so adding Wham Episode and updating issue-by-issue bloats the page and is a bit premature, especially since we know from interviews and promotional material that Eggman will be the main villain with no competition, so eventually he'll lose the amnesia if it is amnesia. (Plus other Sonic comics lasted hundreds of issues!)

Speculative Troping is generally frowned upon for ongoing works even though it's inevitable, since they're ideally meant to be troped when the work is concluded or at least when the current storyline has concluded. For instance, Yu-Gi-Oh! and its subpages were made after the series ended, with the trope pages reflecting opinions on the series or seasons as a whole, while ongoing shows like RWBY, Steven Universe, or Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS are troped episode-by-episode and line-by-line, resulting in huge subpages clogging and reactions to stories when they weren't concluded, IE 'They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character' by not revealing someone's backstory when it was revealed a few episodes later. For episodic shows or shows with smaller story arcs this obviously isn't as big a deal,but for shows with a lengthy Myth Arc or a single ongoing story it can be frustrating.

IN IDW Sonic's case, this trope is a good example of the problems speculative troping can cause on pages.

"* Ambiguous Situation: By the end of Issue 5, it's still unclear whether Eggman is really suffering from amnesia, or faking it. Made more complicated by Issue 6, which reveals that Eggman is the mysterious figure leading the reunited Badniks, somehow being in both places at once. Issue 7 clarifies the latter a bit, as it's Neo Metal Sonic disguised as Eggman leading his army."

By issue 7, it's been revealed what happened for issue 6, making that part no longer ambiguous. Other speculative troping and episodic troping can be found here:

That's kind of unavoidable since this series only gets updated monthly, so information gets put scarcely. Either we'd have to refrain from troping at all until the end of each arc, or rewrite each page.

Finally caught up with the comic and... it's alright. It's far from perfect. The early issues are OK at best, and you won't really understand what's going on if you haven't played the games. (Including Forces.) That said, the story is decent, the characters are decent, and the action is decent. And the art's pretty top-notch too. It's not really as good as the Archie comic or even the Fleetway comic, but it's still enjoyable regardless.

Is it really fair to compare this series, that isn't even 10 issues in, to comics have over twenty years of lore and backstory?

Probally not. But it is what it is.

Eh, I admit this isn't the amazing, interconnected universe from before, and I'd have liked to keep some of the old characters around. But this isn't bad. The new characters are exciting, the team-moves and fights fun to look at, and the art's on-point.

What I want to see are plots that don't retread "Eggman's up to no good/Eggman hasn't been seen." Yes, he's the main villain, but having villains like Monkey Khan, Fiona Fox, and Scourge gave the comic a little more flavor than the games did with characters like the Deadly Six.

Since this is pretty much following Forces I'd like to see Infinite at some point.
