I think the best way to do the Fantastic Four would be a bit similar to how they did Ant-Man: the Four were a sensation decades ago, but disappeared off the face of the Earth (literally) in an event nobody is sure of. Turns out they were stuck in the anti-matter universe or something, unaging but lost.

An aging Dr. Doom is still around, plotting and waiting for the day they return - he shows up fighting other heroes before the Four's own movie.

The key to a good Four movie, though, is in genre. All of the Fantastic Four movies so far have been poor in part because they were so by numbers for superhero plots (even Fan4stic), without cliche characters and not much positive nuance the way Iron Man or even the old Spider-Man movies had. But the Four are explorers. And nowadays, with Marvel leading the verse and branching out, doing an entirely safe superhero movie is going to act against you.

So do an adventure story about them discovering and exploring something new and amazing. The "lost in the anti-matter verse" bit is a good example, but there are others.

Why wasn't Surfer playable in Mv C 3? Did they not find out how to make throws do extra damage to him?

... you know, are there any other Fantastic Four characters that could make it into Infinite besides Doom, Super Skrull, and the Four themselves?

The one Fantastic Four villain that comes to mind for me is Annihilus.

I would prefer Aaron Stack over Impossible Man, but that's me.

[up][up][up][up] I remember there being two given reasons: one was that they couldn't figure out a moveset that incorporated his board (which is understandable... though less so in light of Ghost Rider making it into Ultimate with his bike). The other was that he looked too much like Iceman (I hope I'm just remembering things wrong with this one, because it's a really stupid reason to leave him out).

It might've been the flight component. They've had flying characters before but maybe the modeling of having him zoom around on the board was awkward or something.

There exists a MUGEN Green Goblin. He's meant to be played Capcom-style, but controls like a shmup character.

Remember when I said that February 14th could've been a potential date for reveals because of the home video release of Doctor Strange? I was mistaken... that was the date of the movie's release on digital download platforms, not home video. That isn't until February 28th.

Still, February 14th happened to be a Tuesday. It would've been the perfect opportunity to reveal both Strange and a certain other character...

[up]I was actually at Wal Mart just now and was looking for Doctor Strange on DVD/Blu-ray.

I'm also going to try to get all the characters in Mv C 3 as figures. Or at least the characters that have figures. I already have a start by having Ryu, Deadpool, Iron Man, Thor, and Rocket Raccoon.

Here's another leak that we can talk about while we wait for the next reveal, this time from GameFAQs (I don't know the exact thread on that site, I only learned of this leak from this NeoGAF post). As always, please take this with a grain of salt, or the entire salt shaker if needed.

The characters this leak mentions, at least for the base roster, are...

  • Hunter
  • Rathalos
  • Strider Hiryu
  • Leon
  • Jedah
  • Spencer
  • Captain Commando
  • Spider-Man
  • Doctor Octopus
  • Venom
  • Songbird
  • Ms. Marvel
  • Ant-Man
  • Rocket Raccoon (with Groot as part of his moveset)
  • Black Panther
  • Doctor Strange

Miscellaneous comments from the leaker (again, according to the NeoGAF post)...

  • If the game gets delayed past its 2017 release date, then X-Men characters might make it into the base roster. Otherwise, they're DLC.
  • Doctor Doom, Silver Surfer, and Super-Skrull are confirmed for DLC.
  • Captain Commando may be either part of the base roster or DLC.
  • There will be a Ghosts 'n Goblins rep. It's unknown whether said rep will be part of the base roster or DLC, or if they'll either be Arthur, Firebrand, or a new character.

That's basically all the info from the leak. Now, for my personal comments on the matter...

  • This is not a full roster leak, not even of the full base roster. If we're only getting 22 characters (16 characters in the leak, plus the 6 characters confirmed so far), then goddamn are we gonna be disappointed...
  • Doctor Octopus making it in wouldn't surprise me. He was meant for Vanilla MVC3, and had enough work put into him that he had his own character art and theme song completed, so they might as well tweak him as necessary and put him into Infinite.
  • Jedah, on the other hand, would surprise me. Aside from him being "hard to animate" as is typical of Darkstalkers characters, he's basically throwing around blood with all of his attacks, which at the very least would result in a hard T rating, if not an M. Granted, they did manage to get away with Nemesis in the previous game...
  • I actually wouldn't mind if Marvel and Capcom decided to delay the game into 2018. IIRC, the previous game was Christmas Rushed, which resulted in many characters not making the cut, so if they want to delay the game to polish things up a bit and include more characters, that's fine by me. It also wouldn't surprise me if they delayed it to release in May of 2018, the same month Avengers: Infinity War is released.

Again, take this leak with a grain of salt, and wait for official instructions.

I wish people would stop echoing Capcom's hard to animate bullshit, since it's exactly that.

If they really wanted to put Jedah into the game, they can and they will. Lei Lei with her billion weapons and crazy animations is also "hard to animate".

Doc Ock makes sense if Capcom wants to include a tentacle fighter again without reusing Shuma Gorath.

[up][up] Problem with bringing up Hsien-Ko to debunk the "hard to animate" excuse is... well, in the grand scheme of animating Darkstalkers characters, Hsien-Ko is actually one of the easier ones, especially compared to, say, Pyron.

She's definitely not, with all those props.

Pyron isn't any more complex than Shuma Gorath. And again, they have the funding and the animators you to make any character they want work.

[up]Props are easier than body morphing, since you can individually animate and model the props.

Shuma's been in so many Capcom fighters, so I'm pretty sure his very existence in the series is some sort of company in-joke.

If we were to get any X-Men characters, here are the ones I'd want:

  • Wolverine
  • X-23
  • Deadpool
  • Magneto
  • Mystique

Songbird would've been a believable pick when 3 was coming out, Civil War and Marvel Ultimate Alliance was still relatively fresh and she was still kinda-sorta noticeable in the Marvel Universe. I remember suggesting her as possible DLC back then.

But now? Ehh... I'd be happy if she was, but I don't think it's likely.

Jedah's problem isn't being hard to animate (he's among the more "moderate" ones, compare him to, say, Lord Raptor or Pyron). He's too gore-y.

The Thunderbolts are getting a bit of a push nowadays so Songbird isn't completely out there. Plus she'd have a really unique moveset.
