Otto Octavius actually died. That's quite a shocker. At least he died a hero. There's definitely some things to be addressed in the future, but I call this an excellent way to end the season.

....

So Peter now has no way of explaining that Otto bodyjacked him then?

Dammit Otto!

[up] I got the impression that at least Max knows, the way he specifically talked about Otto's "strongly-worded" letter.

Plus, Max was within Otto's range when he gave his speech as he died, specifically mentioning both Uncle Ben and Peter. Whether it's addressed in season 3 or not will be up for debate, but there's enough evidence to support that he knows the truth.

[up] He seemed to be putting it together when Spidey talked to him about using the Neural Cortex. His mask was pretty torn up by that point.

Season 1 ended with Norman Osborn dying. Season 2 ended with Otto Octavius dying. If this pattern continue, I'm willing to bet Eddie Brock dies at the end of season 3.

Watched the Season 2 finale.

Thought it was pretty good, and rounded out the season fairly well. It wasn't perfect, and I kinda wish that they overcame the Toomes goblin armor instead of a mech. It wrapped up Otto's character arc decently enough, I think, too.

Although when Anna-Maria said that Ock's light "shined brighter than any [she] had seen before" (or something along those lines), my mom and me started laughing due to Ock having just died literally in a flash of light.

[up] I think that was the point, and it honestly made that scene too melodramatic, to be point where it's unintentionally funny.

Now, when will Gwen and Anya finally know the truth? Tune in for season 3 of Marvel's Spider Man: MAXIMUM VENOM

Finished catching up. Otto's redemption arc definitely was the best thing about this season. A HUGE improvement over the comic book's storyline. I am glad they also had Peter acknowledge that Otto did make some useful stuff with the Spider's Nest and the Spiderbots. And the Goblin Nation definitely felt like a real threat, as well as something I had not yet seen in a Spider-Man cartoon. Overall, a really good season.

So I gotta ask, now that the season's over, what did and didn't you like about season 2? Pros, cons, everything.

I thought Season 2 largely started off kind of "eh", due to carrying over a lot of the rushed pacing flaws and a lot of standalone episodes.

The second half of the season was a lot better, though, barring the SpOck Character Shilling (the praise for his tactics and what a good job he's done got kind of annoying in that arc) and Regent, who felt really bland and unneeded, but the pacing slowed enough that it was easier to appreciate the characters. Though I still don't care much that Gwen and Anya still don't know Spider-Man's secret identity, because all it feels like it's doing at this point is causing unnecessary frustration.

But the season's best points were Otto's redemption arc, and I was glad to see Harry Osborn again after such a long, long, long absence, which made the season feel worth watching, even if its best was primarily at the tailend of the season. I also appreciated the off-kilter Rogues Gallery choices, even if it did bloat the cast significantly, and their use can kinda come off as lazy given they tend to be Bit Part Bad Guys.

I'm glad that the action and shading appears to be improving somewhat, too.

I have such mixed opinions on the second season. On one hand, I was a little sad it lost the strong science angle since it made the series stand out, even if the execution wasn't the best. On the other hand, we got a more involved Jameson, which is an upgrade from USM. Unfortunately, he's still way one-dimensional. But then again, Ock was pretty much perfect and the most interesting character.

So, yeah, I'm all over the place for season two. I guess I'd rank it around the same as one, but for different reasons.

My opinion mostly joins Etheru; the season started a bit weak at times, with "meh" choices of villains on occasion and parts that felt a bit fillery, and a twists about Otto's initial redemption being faked that we all see coming a miles away. But things started to improve with the Superior Spider-Man adaptation and REALLY got better with the Goblin Nation arc. Otto's character development felt earned, and I genuinely felt sorry when he dies. I am also indeed glad Harry's back, as I really like that take on the character. I really liked the build up to the mystery around the Goblin Nation as a weird undeground gang alliance, though Adrian Toom being the Goblin King was a bit of a bizarre (if not necessarily bad) twist on the story. Oh, and I already said it before, but kudo to Robbie Daymond for not only making a pretty good Peter Parker, but also perfectly replicating Otto's mannerism and tone while playing SpOck. It's so nice to see a well-done aversion of Voices Are Mental in cartoons.

On the downside, Anya and Gwen felt kinda wasted; it was nice to see them get their powers, but they always felt a bit isolated from the rest of the group and excluded for most of the plot; Miles at least got to help out Peter during the Superior arc. Gwen and Anya just felt like they were doing their own thing until the finale. And them thinking Peter was the new Goblin on the sole basis that he had been a jerk for a while and was seen in Alistair's office was idiotic at best (seriously, how does that make him a prime suspect?!). The animation and dialogue still are a bit "meh", and safe for Ock himself, villains don't feel that well-developped.

Also a bit of a nitpick, but how comes that mechas that can control all machines on Earth can control Tv, the Spider-bots, and even vehicles like trucks or cars that should not have any remote functions, yet somehow cannot hack into the communicators and computers used by Ock to talk with Peter?!

but I think that Marvel's transitioning more toward, at least with the upcoming Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur cartoon, a more creator-driven and less MCU-oriented approach.

I always thought that Kamala Khan Ms. Marvel and Squirrel Girl would work really well with that type of approach. I could see Ms Marvel in particular, as being a sort of cross between Spider-Man and Kim Possible, Get Up, Go To School, Save The World type deal, with Lockjaw and Captain Marvel being occasionally recurring characters.

There's Marvel Rising, though I haven't followed that one since the initial shorts, so the focus might have changed and its focus was more broadly on Marvel's female characters anyway... Along with trying to promote Inhumans during a time when mutants and a certain team of scientists wasn't allowed.

Which is a shame; the Fantastic Four would be perfect for Marvel's Spider-Man, given that Spider-Man and Fantastic Four already have a lot of overlap.

I am wondering where Season 3 will go beyond the Symbiote arc, or if the Symbiote stuff will just be in a short arc but otherwise unconnected to the overall arc.

I don't think it's a good idea to promote the Inhumans, they're just not all that sympathetic when you get right down to it.

[up] Lockjaw is the best inhuman. He’s just a big sweetheart that likes belly rubs, pets, and drooling on people.

[up][up][up] From what I remember, the season will be a series of movie-long specials, and they all revolve around the symbiote invasion arc. They made it sound like there'll be little time for other arcs, unlike USM having a loose arc each season with plenty of unrelated episodes in-between.

Sounds pretty good, season 1 of this show had 3 episode story arcs, fillers that connected back to them, and 4 to 5 parters and season 2 mostly did that, so I think the crew can handle season 3.

Oh, for the love of God, SERIOUSLY?! They have to involve THANOS in the Symbiots' backstory? Was that really necessary? It's them trying to force the MCU in everything all over again; I thought that was finally starting to stop...

That was in the Guardians crossover that was there episode and not for this show exclusively....I don't think we have much to worry about unless season 3 involves several symbiotes across the galaxy. But that may not necessarily equate to Thanos and other Guradians getting involved.
