Sputnik 1985note
I am the most suitable partner for Gaia. I have some bad news. You will not make it to Eden. This is the end of your journey.A faux Period Piece seemingly from the 60's on the advent of space travel, with plenty of anachronisms to boot. It's part of a series of books revolving around Sputnik as it orbits the Earth in the year 1985, with each story being completely different with no regards to continuity. A multitude of authors collaborating under the pseudonym Yuri Maxwell are responsible for the constantly shifting tones and themes between each novel.
A Russian sattelite, the titular Sputnik, has been supplied with seeds and an agricultural system in order to test how plants grow in space. However, the plants (somehow) become sentient (probably due to gamma radiation or some crap like that), and with Sputnik, it's able to broadcast manipulative messages through tone and sound alike to let the masses do its bidding: namely, eating seeds from the plant that have dropped through the atmosphere (the sattelite disperses these seeds like spores) and having them host more sentient plants inside of them so they can grow (eventually out of their hosts' body) and spread out further. In the end, a coalition of US and Soviet forces are able to drive the plants out of the USSR, but at the end, it's suggested some of these forces are infected with the parasitic plant as well.
