Meet the crew of the Ares 3.

So they've got artificial gravity sorted out then? Interesting...
This should be interesting. About 70% of the book was Mars dude doing math.
I haven't read the book, but I've heard that it's written to be as scientifically plausible as possible. Which is interesting to think about, especially how a movie would do that.
Did they use a blank blue flag or the actual NASA flag?
What impresses me is that they are making a big budget film adaptation of something that started out as a self published e-book.

Where did you see that?
The flags are also reversed.
I have not read the book yet, but the trailer & promo teaser for this movie has definitely inspired me to! Looks awesome!
Tam H 70 As far as I can see, the Hermes has only Centrifugal Gravity in the rotating section. Everywhere outside of the rotating bit, characters are strapped down or holding on to something. Their *hair* should still be floating though, so that might just be a Special Effect Failure of the promo.
Tails of the Old Republic: Longest running Sonic/ Star Wars crossover on the net! (that I know of XD)Ah! Read it, loved it, dubious about the movie potential. The strength of the book is in the interesting problem-solving and hopefully that can translate to the screen without being dumbed down too much.
Surprised nobody's posted this yet:
I think we should be resigned to the fact that it's logistically impossible to film an entire movie while simulating 0.3 (or zero) G.
From the end of the trailer:
Woman: "Is it possible that he's still alive?"
NASA Man: *(possible and/or subtle Death Glare)*
Ha ha ha! Gets me every time. note

I don't think that was a Death Glare at all... the look on his face looks more like shame. Shame because he likely knows there's a chance Mark could still be alive, but doesn't want to do jack because of potential PR fallout.
Tails of the Old Republic: Longest running Sonic/ Star Wars crossover on the net! (that I know of XD)I saw the trailer for it tonight. It looks pretty cool.
I smell magic in the air. Or maybe barbecue. Why, I wonder, do I want to see this film with almost every fibre in my being, yet to this day have no interest at all in seeing the similarly themed film by Cuaron, "Gravity"?
"In your face, Neil Armstrong!"
There has to be an Imax showing of this somewhere near me. I saw Fury Road and Edge of Tomorrow on that format, and this seems perfect to make it a trinity.
I suppose "Neil Armstrong" is quicker to say than "Apollo 13 support crew"...
[edit] Not to say that Armstrong's semi-manual landing of the Eagle wasn't a pretty pucker-inducing moment, mind you, and going "splat" on the lunar dirt would be as fatal as running out of breathable air.

All your safe space are belong to TrumpYeah, I seem to remember seeing a documentary about the Eagle mission that implied it was a heckuva closer run thing than NASA likes admitting to. Anyway, just bought the book. Something to tide me over til the film comes out.
This looks like a lot of fun, and after the butt-numbing endurance test that was Exodus, that's not something I expected to say about a Ridley Scott film.
Sing the song of sixpence that goes burn the witch, we know where you liveI make a point of avoiding bible movies unless they have Charlton Heston, Robert Powell or Burt Lancaster in them. Yul Brynner and Anthony Quinn will do at a pinch though, so I'm not too restrictive.
Besides, when Scott wants to, he still can bring the noise as a director.
Just finished reading the book double post. And after reading it, Ridley's really, really going to have to work hard to fuck this film up. I polished it off in a single sitting because it manages to turn long periods of time into something that is punchy. Film release date can't come soon enough.
Oh my god, they got Neil DeGrasse Tyson to do an in-universe featurette for the movie.

I liked that video, although given when the film's supposedly set, it's probably proof of the existence of time travel.
I think Tyson has dyed gray hair in that video, implying it takes place years from now.

Starring Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Sebastian Stan, Chiwitel Ejiofor, Kate Mara, Michael Peña, Kristen Wiig, Jeff Daniels and others. Here's the trailer.
Personally, I'm hoping it's good and not a stinker like some of Ridley Scott's previous offerings in the last couple of years.
