That's a bit of a missed opportunity, I think, since Poe has plenty of narrative potential, and is not used all that often.

They still could introduce him next season, though, now that Magica has hit rock bottom.

Yeah I imagine Poe or Ratface will come in so Magica has someone to play off of.

Know what? I think the episode in Season 3 with Taurus Bulba and Gosalyn will serve as the Backdoor Pilot for a new Darkwing Duck series, perhaps the episode will end with Drake proving himself to the McDuck Family by defeating Taurus Bulba, saving Gosalyn, etc. And then he decides to move to St. Canard to stop any criminals in there, and Negaduck following him to defeat him.

After all, he's still considered more of a liability than help by Scrooge and the others, save for Launchpad.

And I'm thinking the writers will find ways to make Quackerjack, Megavolt and Liquidator real eventually... Like maybe all the in-universe actors all went downhill with their lives after the show's cancellation, and because Evil Pays Better they decide to turn to villainy to get rich quick, enjoying it and becoming real villains. And all you have to add are a few freak accidents to make them closer to real.

And BTW, I like the theory of this series' Don Karnage being the original's son.

That's all I'll say today.

If they're serious about rebooting Darkwing Duck then I expect they'll wait until this show's over after 4 seasons to release it.

Who says it's over after 4 seasons? Absence of renewal does not equal cancellation.

If they do the reboot, they could just have the Fearsome Four appear with no explanation. It's not like the original needed an explanation for their existence. Nor do most supervillains, until someone decides to give them an origin story, for that matter.

Origin stories get rather tiresome these days. It's like every superhero movie needs to include an origin story these days. Why not just jump in with these villains present and relationships established?

Because some people believe you can't establish a character unless you establish them literally from the point of conception.

That's the difference between Speculator Spider-Man & the current Marvel Animation Spider-Man cartoon. tongue

The original Darkwing didn't have an origin story for a very long time either, now I think about it. And that never bothered me at all.

Part of the problem is probably that some fans want to know everything about each character, even when it's not particularly relevant to the narrative. That's not to say it is never relevant, but more often than not, you could just as easily leave it out.

TBF, in the original series the reason half of the Fearsome Four just showed up out of nowhere was due to Schedule Slip, resulting in their later episodes airing way before their earlier ones. Bushroot and Liquidator had origin episodes, and iirc Quackerjack's first episode outlined his origin even if it didn't show it.

On the flipside, while Megavolt's origin episode was one of the last episodes, iirc, his first episode introduced him in a "he's my archfoe who I've been fighting for a long time" sense. Negaduck was the only one with no formal introduction (he just appears in the Justice Ducks episode with Remember the New Guy? all over it, and only gets an explanation later), and even then he was conceptually based on an earlier villain that the audience could identify.

I'd prefer them to be introduced individually regardless, because all of them are interesting villains who are better on their own than in a group - since the group files off some of what makes them so interesting.

The stated the problem with them being in a group was that Negaduck was in it and he overpowered the others too much.

If they were all more equals they would play off each better.

The Megavolt and Quackerjack episodes worked fine because they were partners and not lackeys.

Apparently Tad Stones, if he were given the opportunity to do the Fearsome Five again, wouldn't have Negaduck as part of the group due to how much he overshadowed the others, instead using Splatter Phoenix.

[up] I agree, I think Negaduck works better as a solo villain.

That, and Megavolt and Quackerjack just had good chemistry together as villains, something that was lacking for Bushroot and Liquidator, who tended to work better on their own.

Honestly, Darkwing Duck always had such a fun and interesting Rogues Gallery.

"Our version of the Blot is a new character that takes bits from the original Mickey nemesis, Shadow Blot from Epic Mickey, and Blot from the original Duck Tales. He has a new context, and a new obsession with vengeance against one of our long-standing characters." some info from argones tumblr about how blot is gonna work next season

It feels like we’re getting into an era of animation where if a show is popular and has enough goodwill with the network it can theoretically go on for a very long time. They’re starting to cultivate long runners, or at least attempt to.

Cartoon Network and streaming services are doing this, especially - Disney’s been a bit behind and traditional about it in the past, but they’re starting to break out of it slowly. Nick, too, has expressed a desire to stop their “one long runner and a gaggle of throwaway shows” model in recent years.

So who knows? This show might last a pretty long time. The team certainly seems willing.

Why are you guys so certain it won't last past four seasons? This has plenty of potential to be a long runner.

And people accuse me of being pessimistic...

So all the season 3 cameos is basically Disney screentesting us on the next reboot? Yeah, that sounds like something Mickey would do. grin

In case you were wondering, Evil Corporate Mickey Mouse made another appearance on South Park recently, in connection to the recent scandal about American companies (among which Disney) selling out to China for more profit.
