The amount of hype Final Fantasy VII gets on Game FA Qs kind of makes that article cathartic if you ask me.
I've always found FF 7 to be rather overrated, especially compared to 6.
I think VII has more interesting ideas than 6 but that's better taken to the FF thread.
I vaguely recall what you're talking about. I'm not really sure that it's going to happen though, it's not like everyone thought Mega Man always sucked when MN 9 came out.
I've already seen it happening. When people bring up that it captures the spirit of Banjo very well, the standard hater response seems to be "Yeah, and that only has nostalgia behind it and doesn't hold up at all."
...I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
I played both Kazooie and Tooie not long ago and both are still fun games, sure a platformer made now like YL could be more polished and build on them but Tooie in particular has some damn interesting ideas and scope.
Well I'm glad the voice actor scandal is behind us and now people agree that it's an average-to-good game marred by mostly patchable technical issues.
My girlfriend, who is a Spyro fan, is still getting it. (The voice actor scandal increased her interest in it. Even though I told her about it multiple times, it was fairly unremarkable to her until that happened.)
And about Kickstarter, I think people are exaggerating way too hard about "failure". Yooka-Laylee (and even MN 9) ain't a failure by any stretch of the imagination. If people wanna talk about failures why not refer to the scams and canceled projects and underlivered projects?
My DA account... I draw stuff sometimes!Banjo-Tooie is an ahead-of-its-time masterpiece that has simply never gotten its due. Conker's Bad Fur Day gets a lot of (not undeserved) praise, but for my money, Tooie is the smarter deconstruction of the cartoon mascot platformer genre.
Also it's a 3D Metroidvania. I can't believe there aren't more of those.
Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?I second Tooie being underrated. In fact, if people here would be so kind as to not lynch me for saying this, I actually prefer it to Kazooie.
Metroid Prime?

I don't think preferring it to Kazooie is an unpopular opinion. I for one agree with it.
Yeah, and look at the franchise now.
Where there's life, there's hope.Dammit, how is it that in the age of Minecraft, Elder Scrolls, and other Open World games, a game that returns to the explorative 3D platformer gets mixed reviews?
If people like to collect the same shit over and over in those types of games, why not in a platformer?
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.It apparently isn't the concept that people disliked so much as some technical issues that are holding it back.
A 70 is not bad just average.
Mileena MadnessIs the camera something that's easy to fix? How long would it take to solve this problem? Is it likely it will be addressed in a day one patch?
My understanding is that 3D camera programming is difficult, hence all the 3D platformers with camera problems. At a glance it seems like there are a lot of factors you need to take into account since it needs to react to everything the player does, as well as the environment the player is in, without being directly controlled by the player at all times.
Text I feel is necessary to append to every post.A 70 is way above average, it's pretty damn solid. 50 is average.
Fear the cinnamon sugar swirl. By the Gods, fear it, Laurence.70 is average if you go by the Modern scale of reviewing games which is anything below a 50 or maybe a 60 is so terrible that it shouldn't even be played according to most modern reviewers.
Batman Ninja more like Batman's Bizarre AdventureWhat you were trying to say is "70 is complete shit if you're 'Murican" .
Fear the cinnamon sugar swirl. By the Gods, fear it, Laurence. You joke, but I'm actually proud of our 'Murican standards, i.e. getting a 70 on a school exam is a D. Europe's "excelling" is our "barely passing."
Granted, it, uh... doesn't seem to actually do anything in practice. But It's the Principle of the Thing, maaan.
Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?Well that's a good sign.

"I shall not be foolish again, my dear Gwendolyn!"Pretty sure a 70 is a C-, not a D.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Is it? Here in Texas, a 69 (heh heh) or lower is a stone-cold F. At least at my schools. So I figured a 70 would be a D or D-.
Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?
Semi-related to negative reviews, but am I glad the Internet wasn't more of a thing back in 1999. I can't imagine the vitriol this letter and the response would get nowadays, especially from a magazine that gave Bubsy 3D a 93% score.
The Protomen enhanced my life.
