  • Chris is an 8-year-old kid whose mother recently died in a car accident (she went to Blackwell, not sure if it counts as important). He has an active imagination, likes to pretend he has superpower and creates a Big Bad whose name is actually and amalgamation of the streets where his mother's accident happened.
  • His father, who first seemed like a nice enough dad, turns out to be an alcoholic who secretly blames Chris for his mother's death. He also "accidentally grabbed Chris too hard", leaving some bruises
  • At the end of the episode, Chris, who's rightfully upset that his father told him he was responsible for his mother's death, climbs up to his treehouse and falls. Just as he's about to hit the ground, he magically floats up a few inches above ground, lands safely, looks up and see two guys (who presumably are his neighbors). One of them, a kid about his age, smiles and waves at him. He smiles and waves back. The end.

So... Telekenesis is the new power presumably?

I actually feel pretty bad for Charles. While his behavior is inexcusable, I get the impression that he really does love his family and that the whole ordeal has just let his demons get the better of him. It's sad, really.

I felt the same. He's not even dismissive of Chris's imaginative play, which is what I expected, even seems to encourage it to some extent (letting Chris 'crush' a beer can with his 'powers'), though he does say the usual 'grow up' thing at the end, when he's drunk.

Can someone give a run down on the important bits? I hope I'm not asking too much. I just suddenly got busy

Dunno if this helps from a time-budgeting point of view, but if you really wanted you can get through it in less than half an hour, but you'd be missing a whole lot. It's not long at all though, it took me about two hours, and that was with loads of fucking around because I couldn't figure out what I was supposed to do for some of the objectives (which I feel was about 50/50 me being dumb and slightly dodgy game design).

[up][up] Seems like telekinesis. Could turn out to be a kind of wind power, if they want to go down the Elemental Powers route.

So. I got that free game spinoff because it was recommended by a steam sale, and I'm wondering if it's okay to play it without prior knowledge of Life is Strange proper?

but HOW?

If you follow the WMG that the Hawt Dog Man comic and game are hints to the plot of the game proper, it's possible that the power is the ability to float somehow (in the game, Mustard helps HDM float, and in the comic HDM and Mustard meet up and go on a road trip).

[up] (2) Not really. There's maybe a single reference to the previous games but nothing essential to the plot that I've noticed.

Mmmmmkay. [lol] Talk about anti-climaxes.

I just accidentally finished Captain Spirit in about, I don't know, 15 minutes. Mainly because I was stumbling around wondering what I had to do.

I made a helmet, found a cape, got a tattoo, and was looking for some paint... I hadn't faced Snowmancer or Mantroid, but I'd taken the car keys, taken a cigarette, and I was loping about the house looking for some way to advance the story.

I figured - why not talk to Dad? Something screamed at me not to do it but I figured hey, the game lets me call the dad on the phone, so that's probably an alternative to waking him up manually. Maybe Chris will try to do it but fail so you have to figure out some other way to do it? There's so much else to do on this "Awesome things to do" list that there's no way they'd let the game end this early.

Nope. Game just ends. Credits roll.

The story was so broken too Mrs Reynolds comes by, I goofed and Chris let her know about the dad's drinking, she leaves, and then the Dad just blows up at Chris.

Captain Spirit/LIS Subreddit:

(1)

What's up with Dontnod's obsession with fatal car crashes

  • And "perfect parents" dying in car crashes. Seems like Chris's mom and Chloe's dad don't have many obvious character flaws.
    • Uhh did you not play Bt S? Chloe's dad was an infamous pirate who stole from children, pay attention
  • I think its that we tend to forgive people of their flaws after they die and time has passed.
  • Bt S offset that a little bit with some of the allusions to Chloe not really wanting to know if her dad had ever lied to her (was imperfect). I think it's just that we always see the parents from the kids' heavily biased perspectives, not their adult peers.
  • Yeah, one of the interesting themes in Bt S is the dichotomy between tough transparency or blissful ignorance, and how William had some of his own secrets.

(2)

It's subtle, but you can see how much better tech has improved since the first season of Life is Strange. From obvious things like the lip syncing, the graphics look nicer while still retaining the Li S art style, dialogue and conversations are more fluid and freeflow (having conversations without interacting with a character), little things like making tracks in the snow, glad Dontnod aren't pulling a Telltale and skimping out on the presentation of the game.

  • My favourite improvement is how they changed the rendering of thin materials (trees, leaves, hair). Before Max's thin hair would look kinda weird even on Max settings.
    • Me: Bah-dum-tish.
  • Yeah, it's certainly a bit reassuring. Mrs. Reynolds looked great while Charles still looked wooden at times. Still much better than S1 and probably about on par with Bt S.
  • I like how you can turn on the microwave and just let it run like in real life, while able to do other tasks. Or sometimes the house phone will ring and you can choose to answer it or ignore it. I wouldn't mind more "free flow" like that in Li S 2 where the entire world doesn't stop just because you are looking at something/talking to someone. Things still go on in the background.

(3)

Mantroid, Captain Spirit’s worst enemy, apparently is the combination of the words of two streets. You can see this in the sequence where Chris arrives to his planet. Now, once you get the combination to open the locker you can see a headline that says that a woman (Chris’s mom) died due to a car running over her. The name of these streets are Mantle Street and Asteroid Drive.

  • Mantroid isnt just a villian he made up to play with, its literally the streets where his mother was killed that he turned into his enemy, and that really shits me up.
  • I think that’s why we didn’t get to see Mantroid psychically, since Chris doesn’t know the identity of the murderer ... Also, I think that he is not capable of defeating him because he’s still affected by his mother’s death ... And finally, curiously he encounters Mantroid right after the car aka spaceship crashed.

o_o Just how much of this freaking game did I miss?! (rhetorical question)

[up][up] I also noticed how much better Captain Spirit looks than Life Is Strange while still retaining the art style (though it did strike me as a little jarring how much better Mrs Reynolds looked). However, Life Is Strange looking a bit lo-fi struck me as at least a partially deliberate decision on DONTNOD's part, since Remember Me is a really great-looking game. I feel like with Life Is Strange, they put the budget and effort into the actual game and not the graphics.

Theory #1: Chris isn't the one with the powers.

Theory #2: Chris imagined it.

Theory #3: We will meet multiple protagonists who all have powers. Hinted by the cryptio email about the teenage freight-hoppers in Captain Spirit. Life is Strange 2 will be about those freight-hoppers or include them somehow.

Observation: There's a QR code in Chris's room that apparently apparently translates to a French idiom about horses.

Theory #4: Time is not your flipping side anymore.

Also, don't know if anyone knew this already, but all the choices you made in The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit will carry over to Life Is Strange 2, because Chris will appear in LIS 2.

Looking at Google and what happens after he says that, "10-10" probably means "fight in progress" here.

There's a bunch of other codes in the video.

These two theory videos do a pretty good job of explaining the obvious stuff (like what the police codes mean, and datamined stuff and clues from Captain Spirit) and the second one also slows down the whole thing so other people can look for clues:

Captain Spirit was December 2016 while the trailer was October 2016 so a little under two months earlier.

Assuming Chris levitated himself, and whoever blasted the police car didn't catch him?
