refer to the part of not blaming any single individual or entity. Gallop counts as an entity. It' s also easier to say than "gallop and anyone they're working with and is externally hired".

You also can' t convince me the studios that get hired to do these shows have absolutely 0 input on the creative process. It's a network of compoubding factors. And the point was, again, to shift blame away from the individual and more to a broader concept.

[up]You're right about it being tied to multiple factors but describing it and I understand your intention but describing it as Gallop does read as though you are putting the responsability on a given entity and thus doesn't quite reflect the situation.

Maybe "(the show/work's) production" could work better.

Considering I've seen more than once that a studio working on an anime adaptation of a series decided to deviate away from the source material in order to do their own thing, I agree full well with this. If it was due to compressing multiple chapters/volumes into a single season (E.G. The last episode of Date A Live Season 3 trying to compress a whole volume into a single episode), it would be one thing. But to deliberately change the story/direction, whether because you thought you knew better or you didn't like the story, is simply unforgivable.

On a different topic, for those of you who had watched the OG and GX: Was it ever confirmed if the old dude who gave Jim (the crococodile dude from GX season 3) the Eye of Orichalcum was actually Dartz' father-in-law and the old king of Atlantis? They looked pretty similar.

And for those who had watched 5Ds, was it ever confirmed who that mysterious figure from Yyliaster was who had manipulated Rudger into initiating Zero Reverse was? I remember that it was at one point stated that it was actually Z-One before he had changed his face since his pre-Yusei appearance heavily resembled the mysterious figure. But maybe I'm misremembering it.

[up] I don't think GX lore and DM filler lore were that connected, especially consider that Oricalicum (as "Orichalicos") had a corruptive and villainous role in the latter.

I always assumed it was one of the Aporia bodies, but I have no real basis. It’s not elaborated on because it’s not a relevant mystery.

On the topic of 5Ds, whether people find the Dark Singers the best villains or a bit underrated, I felt Devack/Demack was under explored.

According to the Yu-Gi-Oh! 10th Anniversary Animation Book, Devack was originally intended to be from a cult of demon worshippers. He was sacrificed to the cult's Gods and reborn as a Dark Signer.

That's...actually interesting. I wonder if he was a Satellite or Neo Domino city resident because if it was the later, they could've done a cool role reversal of a poor person joining a cult for power vs a mostly rich children of kids who didn't really have much issues, but both were connected by the spirits. That could've been such an interesting arc.

The only thing I really know about Devack is Yu-Gi-Oh! BAM used him as a main villain, as one of Marik's Co-Dragons.

The revelation of Demak's cut backstory was the thing that sparked the rumor of 5D's production troubles being due to rewrites after Carly's actress' cult scandal broke. This has now been debunked (the scandal didn't break until near the end of the show), but it still shows up on occasion; I believed it myself for a long time!

We may probably never know what really happened in these productions. The truth is really stranger than the fiction when it comes to Yugioh production.

Older Than They Look is a thing, but that does seen to be stretching it since her getup looks like a (high) school uniform.

that said I hope they have a very good explanation for they they are putting a tween in mech suits to fight what seems to be political foes and mecha-godzilla (or reveal that the posted page was a flashback)

[up][up][up] I'm assuming that vial in the hand of that bespectacled girl was Raye (as in she was a literal test tube baby)?

Also more to the point, does this mean that Roze was another survival of the apocalypse or a rouge AI?

Yes, fertilized ovum in a tube. Roze hasn't appeared yet, but is presumably a human due to being warrior monster like Raye as opposed to machine like Allerion.

I think there's a few people on here who know Japanese pretty well, so I'd like to ask those people: what do the characters of the main protagonists's names mean, at least for their name?

Tsukumo Yuma, for example?

Mutou Yuugi (武藤 遊戯)
武 (mu; bu) basically means "martial" or "in relation to warfare or battle". 藤 (fuji; tou) is the kanji for the wisteria plant, it's one of the most common kanji in Japanese last names because of historical reasons.
遊戯 (yuugi) simply means "game". It's kind of archaic since the English loanword "game" (ゲーム) is more commonly used, but not archaic enough that people don't know the word or use it sometimes. Of any of the protagonists, Yugi's first name is one least like an actual name someone in real life would have.

Yuuki Juudai (遊城 十代)
遊 (yuu) is part of "yuugi" (game) obviously, and by itself means "play". It became tradition to put this in every Yu-gi-oh protagonist's name. 城 (shiro; jou; ki) means "castle" and is a common kanji in last names.
十 (juu; to) means "ten". 代 (dai; tai; yo; shiro) has a multiple meanings, though one of them is "period of time", "generation", or "age". From that, 十代 (juudai) is a word that can mean "10th generation" or "teenager" (10 to 19 years old).

Fudou Yuusei (不動 遊星)
不 (fu; bu) essentially means "not". 動 (dou) means "movement" or "to move". So 不動 (fudou) means "unmoving".
遊 (yuu) is the usual. 星 (hoshi, sei, shou) means "star".

Tsukumo Yuuma (九十九 遊馬)
九 (kyuu, ku) means "nine". 九十九 just means 99 and would normally be pronounced "kyuu-juu-kyuu", but "tsukumo" is an alternate archaic reading that still exists as a name and in the word tsukumogami (九十九神) (objects that became youkai, named from becoming youkai after being around for 100 years).
遊 (yuu) is the usual. 馬 (uma; ma; ba) means "horse" and it's the most common kanji used in boys names that end in "ma".

Sakaki Yuuya (榊 遊矢)
榊 (sakaki) is a species of Asian evergreen tree. Tree names are somewhat common as last names in Japan. This species is considered particularly spiritual in Japan and is commonly planted in Shinto shrines. The name "sakaki" comes from it being the connecting point between humans and gods/kami (境 sakai = boundry; 木 ki = tree), and the kanji 榊 is made up of the kanji for "tree" (木) and "god; divine" (神).
遊 (yuu) is the usual. 矢 (ya) means "arrow" and is one of the most common kanji to use in boys names that end in "ya".

Fujiki Yuusaku (藤木 遊作)
藤 (fuji; tou) I already went over, and 木 (ki; moku) means "tree", so 藤木 (fujiki) is literally "wisteria tree".
遊 (yuu) is the usual. 作 (sa; saku) means "to create; to make". It's the most common kanji used in boys names ending in "saku".

Oudou Yuuga (王道 遊我)
王 (ou) means "king" and is used in other words related to royalty and monarchism. 道 (michi; dou) means "road; path; way". 王道 (oudou) is itself a word meaning "shortcut" or "the easiest path", and is also used figuratively to mean something like "traditional" or "the usual" or "cliche" (though not necessarily in a negative sense).
遊 (yuu) is the usual. 我 (ware; ga) means "I; me; myself". It's the standard first-person pronounce in Chinese (where it's pronounced wǒ) but is archaic in Japanese outside a few specific instances. It's one of the most common kanji used in boys names ending in "ga".

On a extra note since I mentioned that Yugi's name is least like a real name. I thought of the protagnists' last names probably Yusei's was the least like an actual last name, but I searched a site with this info and apparently a few dozen people in Japan have Fudou (不動) as a last name. It's actually Judai and Yuga's last names, Yuuki (遊城) and Oudou (王道), that don't exist in real life at least with those exact kanji spellings.

That was actually the point, IIRC. In the epilogue arc he made a point of staying behind in Neo Domino City so that the other Signers would still have ties to the place and a reason to return after they all went their separate ways.
