No, D.Va can't block those.

Everyone can shoot sombra before she hacks tho, that's not unique to D.Va

[up][up] No, D.Va can block those. Here's the OWL Twitch channel's video of Friday's match between the Chengdu Hunters and the Philadelphia Fusion. Watch the kill feed at 15:11; Elsa as D.Va uses Defense Matrix to counter a Hack from Eqo as Sombra. The commentators even remark on the odd graphic it puts in the kill feed.

I play Sombra most of all, and that's one of the several reasons I find D. V particularly annoying.

That said, you shouldn't be gearing up to hack people from the front regardless.

So is today Sigma's and Role Queue's release? My Blizzard client was doing the background download thing last week. That's usually the sign it's imminent, but I don't follow the actual news on the matter.

If so I'll likely be getting on to try them after I get home from work today.

Sigma's now available, yes. Role Queue is apparently available in Competitive Mode only (they're doing a special shortened beta season for the next three weeks); I think I read that it will move across to Quick Play for the next patch in early September.

For the curious, the achievements for which one can get the Pixel and Cute sprays for Sigma are gathering 350 in shields with a single use of Kinetic Grasp (probably involves timing it with an enemy Ultimate) and delivering three killing blows with a single Gravitic Flux.

[up] Role Queue isn't in QP, but forced 2-2-2 is. It's working by first picked first served right now.

[up] According to blizzard that's a bug. You are not supposed to queue like that.

Otherwise it's basically a race to who gets DPS (And Sigma) first

Which I assume is why Arcade is No Limits this week

Hm. I just spent an evening playing Quick Play with my usual groupmates, and we had several matches where one or both teams had three DPS characters, or occasionally three Tanks. It didn't grey out the categories in which two characters had already been selected or anything. By and large, we did mostly end up with 2/2/2 parties on both sides, but more by choice than anything else. Perhaps Blizzard will be releasing a bugfix patch in the next few days to sort this out.

Unsurprisingly, nearly every match featured a Sigma on both teams, which meant I spent most of the evening playing Support, and more precisely Mercy, since, as I've mentioned in this thread before, one of my usual groupmates is a D.Va main (the other is happy playing whatever the situation calls for - he's nominally a Wrecking Ball main but also plays Orisa, Symmetra, Sombra, Moira, and Brigitte). Which did lead to a few firsts for me as Mercy - getting more eliminations than deaths in a game, getting a Shutdown highlight (for shutting down a Configuration: Tank, no less), and spending time on fire. Minor achievements at best, of course, but I was still happy to finally manage them.

Posted this on the Ensemble Darkhorse cleanup but posting in here just in case

The Ensemble Dark Horse entry in the YMMV page is a problem

  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Non-playable characters that appear in shorts and comics, hell even concepts, have a tendency to become this due to them still standing out as a Cast of Snowflakes.
    • Tekharta Mondatta, whose only major appearances are during a sermon in Alive and a statue on King's Row map, enjoys a fanbase of his own for his Small Role, Big Impact nature in the story. The similarities to Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. don't hurt, either,
    • Maximilien, the French Omnic who has a seat on Talon's Council of Leaders, was a quick hit with the fans due to being the first confirmed evil sentient Omnic (unlike the majority of destructive Omnics that appeared during the Omnic Crisis), something that many have wanted to see. Naturally, quite a few fans are hoping he'll be Promoted to Playable in the future.
    • Doomfist owes his status as a playable character to this: despite only briefly being mentioned in the original trailer, having a small presence on the Numbani map, and never actually being meant to be playable, he proved to be wildly popular and fans clamored for Blizzard to make him playable, which led to him becoming, to much fanfare, not just the game's twenty-fifth hero, but a strong contender for the overall narrative's main villain.
    • Snowball has won over many fans for its cuteness and usefulness in gameplay. The short Rise and Shine cements this status after showing its relationship with Mei, and he even says her name when she first wakes up.
    • Lynx Seventeen from the "Searching" comic was an instant hit with fans, thanks to their cool design and hilarious Deadpan Snarker personality. Being officially confirmed as being gender-nonconforming has also netted them a comfortable LGBT Fanbase.
    • On an interesting case: Mercy's concept art became this. Early drafts of her depicted a dark skinned man with similar armor to her current design. Many fans liked the design and started portraying him as her younger brother. It seems that Baptiste - a dark-skin Haitian Gentle Giant Support hero, was created as a response to his popularity.
    • Balderich von Adler immediately became this when shown in Reinhardt's short Honor and Glory, being a huge armored badass who teaches Reinhardt to be an honorable hero, and then goes out in a Heroic Sacrifice taking out numerous omnics while dual-wielding rocket hammers, with a fatal injury to boot.
      • The same short also gave us our first 3D look at Brigitte in a workout shirt that showed off her arm muscles. She had been featured in comics before, but she didn't have such prominent... definition. Her later inclusion in the roster was predictably very much well-received.
    • Pachimari the Tamanegi-Teko! The adorable onion-octopus… thing who appears to be the Series Mascot for an in-story Merchandise-Driven franchise. The weird little thing has achieved enough popularity with the community to warrant real merchandise thanks to its tongue-in-cheek design as a parody of cutesy Japanese mascot series and the humorous reoccurring gag of Roadhog's infatuation with it.
    • Some of the outfits some characters have been shown wearing in-story have struck a chord with their respective fanbases, such as Hanzo's memorable one-panel ensemble from Reflections, Mei's Summer Games pajamas from Rise & Shine and Tracer's orange and black bodysuit from various flashbacks. Fan art is not hard to come by, and some even want to see them implemented into the game as skins.
    • B.O.B, Ashe's omnic butler and bodyguard, proved to be the best part about her entire character concept. He's got an awesome handlebar mustache built into his face, wears a bowler derby hat, doesn't speak a word, and garnered the biggest audience reactions whenever he was even mentioned at the live reveal at Blizzcon 2018. Even among Ashe's detractors, people loves B.O.B. and wish he could have been the playable character instead of her.
    • Echo, the Omnic that McCree rescued from Ashe in Reunion instantly gains a fanbase due to her cute interaction with him and unique character design despite only appearing in the last minute of the short. The reveal of her as a future playable character has only intensified interests in her.
    • Mauga, a talon heavy mercenary and former squadmate of Baptiste from the latter's illustrated story "What You Left Behind", has gained attention from the fanbase due to his distinctive design, his lively personality yet intimidating frame, and his genuine friendship with Baptiste. Some hope and even anticipate that he'll be a new hero in the future.

So the trend here is that any named character is an authomatic Ensemble Dark Horse. The problem here is that couple of them were Promoted to Playable or are often seen in the game itself (Like Bob) so i don't think they qualify for the trope.

On other case like Lynx, Mauga or Balderich while they aren't playable characters, the stories that do feature them have them in an important role and AFAIK, Ensemble Dark Horse is only for tertiary or minor characters. If a comic or short story features you as an important character, do you still qualify for the trope?
