I suppose there is no real reason for having all of these players on the page. But then again, we have useful notes on every other topic. If we have short summaries on the regions of new Jersey, I don't see why we shouldn't have them on soccer players.
The Characters. The World Cup page is indeed a separate topic.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanNot all players play in the World Cup.
I like it in a Useful Notes kind of way (especially if you're new to the sport) but there is a lot of subjective choice in which players are important enough to be there.
May or may not have been raised by egregious Brazilian wolves.I'd have more of an issue with the fact that the name is non-indicative. I know it's focused on the sport itself, but running a Google search revealed a film of the same name (which also deals with soccer, just a specific subset in South Africa).
Clock is set.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanVis-a-vis the title: The point, I think, is "What to call it if not 'The Beautiful Game'?" Because both "Football" and "Soccer" are liable to cause a Flame War, or at least some dissension, and I'm not sure that "Footy" or the formal "Association Football" would be any better recognized than the current one (which is vaguely recognizable as a nickname for the sport in the same way that "America's National Pastime" is recognizable for baseball). These are points to consider; I'm not really sure where I stand.
As for having long lists of players: We might split the player section out, but it should definitely remain on the wiki. The list on this one is substantially larger than the lists for Baseball and American Football (for reasons that should be obvious to anyone), and I think those are already approaching the level requiring a split themselves. But perhaps they shouldn't be a "Characters" page so much as a Useful Notes on "Footy Players" or "Footy Greats" or something of the sort.
Yeah, I'd also agree with "Association Football" if it were to come down to a rename. I'd be interested to find how many inbounds/redirects the name "Beautiful Game" itself gets.
Association Football and Soccer are already redirects for the page.
Yeah, rename to Association Football and cut the player list.

Cut, or split? I would prefer split.
Cut. I can't see anything resembling a use for a player list here.

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanLovely.
Do we need a crowner for the name? Association Football seems to have no opposition, and as someone earlier mentioned, both Soccer and Football are... potentially troubling.

So it seems like we're turning the page into UsefulNotes.Association Football and cutting the player list? Shall I get started on the move?

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThe Beautiful Game and its subpage is moved to UsefulNotes.Association Football, which is now indexed. Player list is cut.

Crown Description:
What would be the best way to fix the page?
I can understand having a page on soccer/football, but there's a lot of issues I have with the page (and some relevant subpages). The massive list of famous footballers seems entirely pointless for this site. I think we'd be better served having tropes often associated with football (like Wounded Gazelle Gambit, which inevitably comes up when soccer's mentioned in America or Serious Business along with Football Hooligans) since that's actually how the sport affects fiction and moving Footy Rules to the main Useful Notes page.
I'm not sure if I should do this in a separate topic, but the World Cup is already a Useful Notes page, and it's got a character page Characters. The World Cup which is nothing but a scoresheet, which seems pointless (I'm also 99% sure it was cut in the past, given the history).
