Reruns of Close Enough on adult swim would be dope enough.

[up]x3: [adult swim] and Toonami will remain untouched. In the "Redraw Your World" video, it showed off the channel's divisions of "Cartoonito in the morning, Cartoon Network in the afternoon/evening, Adult Swim in the pure night).

The fact that we still have upcoming programs like Infinity Train Season 4, two new seasons of Total Drama Island, and Genndy Tartakovsky's Unicorn: Warriors Eternal tells me the network isn't ditching original YA content either.

[up]x2: It seems like they're trying to learn their mistakes from Tickle U, as the preschool market has exploded since 2005. The fact that they're importing WarnerMedia's existing overseas preschool block from 2006 is telling.

The main distinction here is having original Warner programming, like spin-offs of Looney Tunes, Craig of the Creek, DC Comics, rather than the random hodgepodge of acquisitions Tickle U had that hurt its identity. Along with the assistance of Tom Ascheim, who's an experienced architect of Noggin's creation.

(And before anyone gets confused, long-time Warner Bros Animation producer Sam Register is also the current president of Cartoon Network, not Tom Ascheim, who controls WarnerMedia's Global Kids, Young Adult, and Classics department.)

[up] Wouldnt Infinity Train part 4 be on HBO MAX though? Unless they air part 3 on CN proper.

[up][up] Okay so it isn't lost but I just don't like this change. I remember Tickle U and I grew up on Playhouse Disney and Nick Jr. and I didn't like when Nick Jr. shifted to Nick. Things could be different for Cartoonito but I want to look at this from different viewpoints even though that's the point of a forum.

[up] Tiny Toons Looniversity is going to be a cross-platform series, so it's airing on Cartoon Network and HBO Max.

[up]x4: Good point, Book 4 will probably remain on HBO Max unless there's a future announcement stating otherwise. Total Drama and Unicorn: Warriors Eternal I'm absolutely certain are coming to CN.

Jade Amor looks. . . OK-ish. I'm glad to see more variety on Cartoon Network regardless. The idea of dividing the network into a "kids' section" and an "older kids' and teens' section" is an interesting one, and one that I think could go a long way in fixing the network's problems with its scheduling.

It turns out that a stylized, youth-oriented Mortal Kombat cartoon was in the works by Warner Bros. for Cartoon Network. The series would have been called Mortal Kombat Ultra Girls, with character designs surprisingly coming from internet toon reviewer RebelTaxi.

According to the leaker, the pilot episode was finished (hence the screencaps with timecode terminology), and it was planned to be another 52, 11-minute episode series. The pitch was one of many proposed series ideas to broaden the franchise out of the "extreme violence" niche, which can be found in the link, but none of them really stuck due to changing management.

[up][up]Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm is a joke these days because the franchise, for how goofy it can get, was never really meant to be so...immature.

Frankly, I'm glad that the first piece of animation we got was Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge.

Saw the leaks earlier today and all I could think was "Yup, this has Pan written all over it."

...I really hope he doesn't get flak over it. I'm not super keen about MK, but I do respect Pan. He hasn't really responded about the leaks per se, but he did retweet a tweet he made back in April 19, 2020, where he talked about a "big project [he] was hired to do character designs for." Plus, he was aware some would "nail [him] to the wall for it."

[up] Plus, he locked his Twitter. Probably out of fear of the rant tweets. Wish him well, guys. In a sea of obnoxious cartoon YouTubers like Señor Penetration, Pan's probably one of the better guys since he actually does his research and gives true blue insight on things and he doesn't rely on shock factor or getting angry over cartoons.

I almost want to call him a unicorn in that regard.

I'm one of those people that is increasingly annoyed that most cartoons are now 11-min. cartoons, but this material seemed interesting. I also guessed it would be something like this since Pan was throwing some hints for a while.

Also, hearing that the action animation pitch compared to Young Justice was rejected because WB wanted something lighter is disheartening. The Johnny Cage premise also sounded hilarious.

The Johnny Cage premise also sounded hilarious.

The one that was described as "Johnny Bravo meets Tropic Thunder" and follows Johnny Cage surviving Mortal Kombat thinking it's all a movie? I was concentrated on Pan's well-being, but thinking about it, I really want to see that Johnny Cage premise...

#5070: Feb 24th 2021 at 3:00:03 PM

I don’t know why WB dislikes Cage so much, because that sounds amazing. First the OC loser in the new movie, now this.

This all stems from a rather...bizarre place given the franchise. I remember the 90s when they tried to make MK a huge thing, with the aforementioned Defenders and then Mortal Kombat: Conquest, a show full of scantily clad women and varying acting designed to appeal to the WCW crowd. The violence ensures the franchise never has that pure cross over because it’s so integral to the presentation, and anyone who argues otherwise can see how the fans reacted to Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, a game hobbled by its T rating despite some good ideas and fun interactions.
