IIRC the show came out in the early 2000s, possibly either 1999 or 2001 when interactive computer games was a major thing for kiss. So I say almosts 20 years, give or take.

The Protomen enhanced my life.See that's more like what I thought.
While I don't think a spin-off of Sponge Bob Square Pants is a good idea, I also feel it can work if done correctly
The previous commenters on this thread said most of the main characters like Squidward, Patrick, Sandy, etc are tied too much to Sponge Bob and can't carry their own show unless their personalities are completely overhauled
That is the biggest issue with doing a spin-off of Sponge Bob Square Pants
To get around that, they can use a lesser character like Patchy the Pirate and make the show live-action which would breathe new life into this almost dead franchise
Is a Patchy spin-off separate from Bikini Bottom a good idea?
Or if they absolutely HAVE to use the primary cast(minus Sponge Bob himself of course), they can team up the characters
Here are some possible combinations:
- Mr. Krabs & Plankton
- Squidward & Mr. Krabs
- Patrick & Squidward
- Sandy & Plankton
- Sandy & Mr. Krabs
- Pearl & Squidward
- Pearl & Sandy
- Sandy & Karen
- Squidward & Squilliam
- Mr. Krabs & Gary
- Mr. Krabs & Mrs. Puff
- Mrs. Puff & Squidward
- Karen & Plankton
- Mrs. Puff, Sandy, & Karen
(this would be a female counterpart to the Sponge Bob Square Pants, Patrick Star, and Squidward Tentacles dynamic)
- Patrick & Sandy
- Squidward & Sandy
- Larry & Sandy
- Larry & Squidward
These characters have been proven to have good chemistry and can easily operate independent of Sponge Bob
In fact, the episodes centering on certain characters may have been the writers testing the waters to see if they would work in a spin-off environment
I don't think Nick will do it though
They'll take the easy way out and use one of the Bikini Bottomites like Fred Rechid
Although...a spin-off of the Bikini Bottomites without the main cast could be possible
Sorry for the long post!

A recent documentary about Gabor Csupo’s friendship with Frank Zappa has finally been released to the Internet:
Take a look at this. It’s terrific.
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."Apparently this was a thing:
I'm sad to see no one else has reported this here, but unfortunately, Chris Reccardi has passed away.
He was a major part of Ren And Stimpy, from the boards he did for many great moments of the series (including Wilbur Cobb's introduction in "Stimpy's Cartoon Show") to the episodes he directed which allowed his talent to really shine - "Hard Times for Haggis," "Hermit Ren," "Ren's Brain" - to the music he composed for the series, which included the theme song and "Happy Happy Joy Joy."
After the show ended, he went on to pretty much everything you liked - Cow And Chicken, The Powerpuff Girls, Dexters Laboratory, Samurai Jack, the short stints he had on The Grim Adventures Of Billy And Mandy and Sponge Bob Square Pants, even his feature film work on The Lego Movie and the Hotel Transylvania films... If you watched children's TV in the past few decades you've seen something he worked on.
He was a great artist, a great musician and an inspiration for animators everywhere. His death is a blow to everyone in animation.
(I can only imagine how his poor wife is feeling now...)
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."He also headed that rejected pilot The Modifyers about a 60's spy.

Oh dang...
"Don't worry, Lucian, we'll make it through this."Not sure if this belongs in New Media instead, but since they do deal with Nickelodeon, does anyone watch Pop Arena's Nick Knacks videos? They're these mini-documentaries that deal with EVERY show that's ever aired on Nick, they JUST got around to 1984 and Powerhouse for example.
Whoa, Good Burger got a novelization!
EDIT: And a sequel novel!

Well, now I have a reason to keep it around.
Look at Gene Meyer's review. That's some funny shit.
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."Blue's Clues & You! is a thing now. I knew it was coming out, but actually seeing it is something else.
It's not really a reboot that I think was needed. They could just rerun the original show. It hasn't aged much, if at all, aside from some of the kids fashions. Still, more Blue's Clues is always nice. I have an affinity for Blue's Clues merchandise, so more merch is welcome.
My only major issue is Blue's design. Or more specifically, that she's CGI. I'm not fond of how all preschool shows seem CGI nowadays. I know it's easier to work with but everything meshes together after a while.
Blue's Clues and Rugrats were the two Cash Cows of 90s/2000s Nick. I wonder if there's anything else that could be rebooted. I can't see them rebooting their live-action stuff.

"We need a pink, female dog on the show!"
"But Blue is female."
"..."
"... you're not gonna pay us until we put a pink female dog in the show are you?"
The heck are you on about? Magenta's always been a thing.
🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaYeah, Magenta was in the original show.
Anyway, the reboot doesn't look too bad so far, I don't think. To be honest I was expecting everybody to be CGI like Blue (and Magenta).

"Don't worry, Lucian, we'll make it through this."I expect about 20 dark fanfics about what Josh did to Steve and Joe.
The Protomen enhanced my life.Overthinking things, it is weird seeing Blue with a new owner. Joe was Steve's brother at least. They probably won't explain it either since it's a Soft Reboot intended at toddlers.
Maybe we'll see Josh's sister whose color scheme is yellow or red?
The Protomen enhanced my life.Wasn't Magenta owned by an live action African american male?
.... how old is this show??
