Stephen Hillenburg, creator of SpongeBob, passed away from ALS today.

There's many touching tributes to Stephen Hillenburg that I'm starting to lost count. Even Universal Orlando and BET made tributes today on twitter.

Saw a preview for a new upcoming Nick show, Abby Hatcher. I thought it was related to Hatchimals at first but it isn't!

[up] Wouldn't blame you considering Spin Master, the toy production company for Abby Hatcher, also produces Hatchimals.

Same here. That show was legit and I still get the theme song stuck in my head to this day.

I remember watching Gullah Gullah Island often, but I don't have any clear memories of it. All I remember is the frog itself. Heck, I keep on mistaking the show's title for Gilligan's Island.

It's a shame Nick isn't more on point when it comes to releasing their shows on dvd/vhs/blu-ray/digital/literally-anything. This isn't specifically a problem with Nick alone - Disney and other networks suffer from it - but there are so many shows that were popular yet fell through the cracks. I'm surprisex Nick Jr still gives Blue's Clues (at like 5 AM or something, but it still counts).

Nick's one of the most on-point companies when it comes to that. Most of the classic Nicktoons are out on DVD, and now they've got the Splat VRV, which has a ton of stuff, even the classic Nicktoons that aren't on DVD...

Admittedly there's no uncut Ren And Stimpy or Rocko sets except in Germany, but hell, it's better than nothing.

I'd like to see Nickelodeon bring back Wild Thornberries mostly just because I want to see how civilized Donnie would be now that he'd probably be in his mid-20's.

One Catdog episode revealed that Cat has the extra 8 lives while Dog does not. It'd be interesting to see a spin-off with Cat in one of his following lives as a regular Cat after the characters from the original Catdog show had passed away.

[up][up] Point me to the Oswald dvd section then. Most of their big, mainstream cartoons have home releases, but a good chunk of their library is stuck in limbo.

Unfortunately preschool shows aren’t really part of the whole nostalgia push. They really only have one audience by design, so the networks feel that unlike the shows for older kids there isn’t going to be much of an audience for DV Ds of these shows.

(Notice how you don’t see any Nick Jr. shows on The Splat, after all.)

[up] There's a nostalgia volume to them but the problem is that adults are unlikely to actually buy the sets, unless they want to show it off to their kids. For most outside of the actual age demographic, something like Dora the Explorer just doesn't have the plot or character to be interesting enough to watch an entire season.

Dora the Explorer treats kids like morons. Never understood why that show lasted longer than Blues Clues and got a spinoff.

[up] The Peabody Awards also decided to give Dora a win as well.

Like seriously, Peabody critics, the original Avatar series was a Nick show that deserved its win. Don't taint your award reputation by giving it to damn Dora, of all children's shows.

Apparently the American Nickelodeon website was completely rehauled and all the old games were removed. It always sucks when online games are taken off-line. Spongebob Flip & Flop was my favorite.

[up][up] I loved Dora the Explorer as a kid and watched it until a while after the stars were introduced. It, however, is one of the few cartoons of its kind that doesn't feel dumbed down to me. I tried to watch an episode of Dora and Friends in the City and the "talk to the viewers" style doesn't mesh well there. No wonder that show apparently bombed. They should have aimed for an older audience.

Man is that depressing. All those old Sponge Bob and Cat Dog and Hey Arnold games. I had a lot of fun playing those back in the day...

On a lighter note, anyone remember these?

(On that note as well, tonight the Splat is playing both Ren and Stimpy Christmas specials.)

@ Pichu-kun

If the American website format for Nick is what's displayed on the Pacific-region internet, then I can understand your pain.

A lot of the Avatar and 2012 TMNT games have been taken down.

Bump.

So in case anyone was keeping tabs on it, production on Glitch Techs got halted today. And if anyone was thinking it'd look like something from one of the creators' previous work, here's a shot of the leads as proof that it isn't.

As much of a bummer as this sounds, it's important to note that Glitch Techs HAS NOT been canceled altogether. The show is still set to premiere this year, so I guess the best case scenario in Nick halting production is that it wants to see if this show is worth keeping around.

(Hope it's worth it though, those leads look super rad.)
