The episode was kinda fun since it didn't try and have any high stakes. Just a contest to decide the what I would assume would be for promotional items for the upcoming event.

She probably only got it done with raw determination despite the difficulty. Most people probably would have ended up in last place if they were in the same position and glitches didn't later effect the last leg of the race.

It was good that the developers realized that disqualifying that many people when the race was already glitched and probably required people to use gunpla to even proceed would lead to a PR nightmare and just had everyone that tied for first as image girls.

I do wonder if that poster is the only type they did or if each of the winners got individual shots also. Because I would imagine that if you have that many winners you would want a variety of pictures for advertising.

Wow, I wonder what Sarah's mysterious backstory could be?

  • LOL she's just Aura.
  • Bird lady not being evil was an okay twist though.
  • This COULD lead to an interesting discussion on whether AIs are people, but I'm guessing that Riku is just going to go "NAKAMA NAKAMA NAKAMA".
  • My guess is that Kyoya is going to take the administration's side on this and become the final boss.
  • Patrick totally would kick Ogre's ass in a fight.

Well, freaking called it. Sarah's basically an AI like Yui from that series I'm loathe to name. When it was revealed that Sarah's existence will eventually tax GBN's servers beyond breaking point, I hoped that it could be resolved by transferring Sarah to a Gatebox-like device. That is, until GBN's creator mentioned Sarah possibly losing her personality and affecting GBN if her artificial consciousness was transferred. (Convenient plot hurdles are convenient...)

Also, the whole "Gunpla accumulating data after each battle" sounds a lot like the "learning computer/combat computer" of the original Gundam. (As well as its successor systems in the latter Gundams of the Universal Century era/timeline.)

I still feel some unease about Sarah being treated like a fugitive on the run, though. Mainly because she's basically a child who's barely a year old.

EDIT: One more thing... Did I just hear Akiko Yajima as the voice of the GBN creator?

I'm not convinced that the people who write this show have ever played a video game, let alone an MMO. Gathering up a hit squad and tracking down the "source of the bug" is not how you patch an issue. Nevermind the fact that, being an omniscient GM, they shouldn't have to "go hunt" and should just spawn themselves wherever she's at, or yank her into GM jail.

But I mean, that would make sense and there wouldn't be any drama if they handled things like real-world admins would.

Literally nothing about GBN makes sense from a real-world perspective.

To be honest, the show only works if you have never played an MMO.

And the plot is only interesting if you've never seen an MMO anime.

Which again, leads me to ask who is this for?

Seriously, though, The Reveal from this most recent episode is legitimately shocking since it was so ridiculously telegraphed and obvious that, for a hot minute, I thought it was too obvious. But nope. Turns out the most obvious thing in the universe is the case. Sarah continues to be the worst.

I like Game Master, still he's fun. Still hoping that he pilots a real-type version of the Gun Diver.

You know, I do like Nami. I think it's largely because she's a little sister but she's not a "little sister." It's weirdly refreshing to have a sister character who isn't either a Cool Big Sis who wants her brother or a loli with a Big Brother Complex. Which is more a statement on anime today than anything else.

Also, really like how everyone is taking the existance of Instant A.I.: Just Add Water! in stride. Seriously. This should be... kinda the biggest scientific development ever? So GM's "well, let's kill it" is just startlingly jarring. I kinda figured the conflict would be a digital version of They Would Cut You Up, but nope. AI just isn't impressive, apparently.

Right? GM was all like "we're going to patch it and smash the source of the bugs" and I'm like "dude, your game accidentally invented artificial intelligence you should be fucking trying to get that thing onto its own server so it can grow and be studied"

Also kinda irks me that the GM/admin team are clearly going to be treated as the bad guys from here on out despite the fact that they're just, you know, doing their damn job to keep the game stable and enjoyable for its millions of playerbase.

And it's obvious that Team Game Players is going to interfere and sabotage the admins' work, so it's like... okay the very first time they interfere with official admin activity, just hit them with the ban hammer and move on. But, you know, that would make sense, and we can't have that.

And Another Thing.... The whole deal where Sarah thought they'd think she was weird for being an AI? Girl, you live in a VRMMO where people build, customize, and fight with giant mecha for fun, with people who use friggin ermines for avatars. She's positively plain by comparison.

No, it's more like she was scared of being otracised because the only thing she's known is GBN, and she has no idea what people mean by "the real world."

And yeah, Team Avalon are obviously gonna play the role of the GM's elite "EL-Diver Hunter". After all, he did say he wanted to "protect the GBN world," so as a WMG called it, he is gonna be this series's equivalent of a Well-Intentioned Extremist.

And another thing: Why the hell do they need facial scans of everyone involved in that race? Just double-check the logs of every player involved, and they would have noticed Sarah causing that bug in the Mirror Mission?

Also, I find it hard to believe that one developer's coding abilities is inherently superior to a guy just running as an admin. Speaking of, why the hell announce publicly that the system is under threat of collapse just because of an AI? You could have just told a few Divers confidentially, and have them keep an eye out for Sarah.

Rustal Elion, GM is not.

They wanted a Fugitive Arc and didn't care if it made sense within GBN. They never care if it makes sense within GBN.

Random thought, but considering she is also used as advertising for the upcoming event I wonder if they would have edited her out and released a new poster or just left it as it is currently.

I also wonder how she spends her time when the others are not online and how no one seemed to notice that she was probably on all hours of the day. I feel like that would certainly have caused some rumors to float about.

I was about to point out how people just leave their characters logged in to games idling/AFK'ing for like an entire day while they're asleep or whatever, then I realized that...that's not really feasible to do in a VRMMO where you, the player are an integral part of the system.

  • Who would have thought that the Nazi fox was evil?
  • Oh wow, finally depth to Kyoya's character. He's still the most boring Char Clone in the franchise, but now he's not completely flat.
  • Riku vs Ogre was one of the best fights in this series, with the caveat that this series's fights are pretty bad in general.
  • So I'm guessing that the next 2-3 episodes are going to be Build Divers (with possible help from Magee and Ogre against Avalon and Rommel Team and then the last couple of episodes will be this Raid Battle we keep hearing about.

I honestly doubt we will get that Raid Battle considering Riku withdrew from the matching process willingly in order to look for Sarah, and the fact that the Build Divers are probably gonna try and rescue Sarah from the new Coalition.

Doubt the admins are gonna let him back into the matching process like that.

Ogre, take your selfish bullshit pride someplace else. Riku has nothing he has to prove to you.

Cool battle visually, but the premise for it was stupid.

I think Rommel's compromise is reasonable, all things considered. Give everyone a chance to save Sarah, and if they can't do it before GBN's very existence is at stake... well, Sarah would die when GBN collapses anyway. In that case, it makes logical sense to at least save GBN if saving her at the same time cannot be done.

Far more reasonable than the Admin. What a hypocrite, he calls Sarah an "electronic lifeform", then immediately turns around and declares that she isn't alive and just a data bug. Pick a side, you SD caricature, you can't have it both ways.

I don't really get Koichi's plan, though. Downloading Sarah into a Gunpla... how is that any different from transferring her to a different hard disk, which was explicitly said to be impossible last episode?

I'm going to guess it has something to do with break decals. Crazy eyes will probably use it to save her, hijack all the seeds of herself she planted, and bomb GBN to oblivion with break decal bugs, and then try to claim the moral high ground by claiming he did save Sarah.

[up] Pretty sure the game has been patched so that break decal can't be used anymore.

[up][up][up] Nah, Ogre confronting Riku like that makes sense to me.

He was literally looking forward to his rematch with Riku, but ever since the GM's announcement regarding Sarah, well, Riku had basically thrown that chance away.

So he decides to hunt him down to have that rematch personally. And he assumes logically that Riku being with Sarah is pretty damn close to using a Break Decal.

And since Ogre hates the idea of cheating, well...

The problem with Ogre isn't that he doesn't make sense, it's that he's boring. He has exactly two qualities: likes to fight, uses eating metaphors for fighting. There's nothing else to him — no character depth, no emotional connection to the main cast — and yet they keep bringing him back as a rival-type character. He has a team (but we've seen nothing of them), he has a little brother (but we've only seen his brother's side of the relationship), and he's obsessed with Riku (instead of other, demonstrably stronger fighters, like Tigerwolf or Kyoya) for no obvious reason other than because Riku is the main character.

Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.
