In a world much like ours but where fantasy is real. Magic and people with special powers exist alongside technology, but so does monsters.

In one kingdom called Malania there is a contest every five years and the winner becomes king. But what is this contest you ask? To find and slay as many and powerful monsters as you can to earn points for a year. Anyone may join, no matter their background, no matter their nationality, no matter their race, if they can get to a registration center they can sign up for the competition.

However a contest like this would cause chaos without order and as such there is a number of simple rules:

  • Do not cause more destruction than you have to.
  • While you won't be prosecuted for most crimes against fellow competitors civilians are off-limit.
  • Competitors can form teams with a single candidate. All the points earned by the team is added to the candidates total but if a member leaves their points goes with them.
  • If you kill another contestant not in your team you gain their points. You may only do this 5 times.
  • You must be atleast 16 years old (or be able to fake it)

Another thing of note is that the legendary Dragon King is rumored to have reappeared, if its true slaying it would almost guarantee victory... But it is also said to be the most powerful monster to even have blocked out the sun.

So what say you, are you willing to take up the challange and aim for the crown?!

And please, download our smartphone app to keep track of your monster lexicon and the leaderboards, updated every day!

Okay so this is an idea I've had for a while. The basic idea is "Go kill giant monsters, get crown" and I wanted to make it so most concepts worked for it, everything from a magician with devastating spells to a humanoid robot with an entire arsenal of guns built by a mad scientist is possible, though I will of course pull the brakes if things starts getting out of hand.

A sign-up sheet will be made if enough people show interest.

Okay time for a character sheet! Remember that I reserve the right to deny any character if I find their abilities to be too "gamebreaky" or them not befitting the verse (The later point will probably not be used) or any other reason that I deem justified. If you do not agree with my reasoning if your character is denied take it up with me in PM's, not in this chat.

Name: Dez’ranze (The Faceless One, in the tongue of the Tirel)

Age: 15, 791 Earth Years

Race: Atela. The Atela were a race of humanoids that are known in legend for not possessing a face. They were immortal (unless killed in battle), and communicated with each other telekinetically. The average height for an adult is normally around 8 ft, and they have extreme physical fitness, befitting their tribalistic ways. They have an extreme love for nature, and it is one of their senses to be able to feel plants around them, and recognise the health and condition they are in. Although they wouldn’t actively go around tending to the environment, they will take an almost instantaneous aggression to those performing feats of unneeded hostility to plantlife. All Atela were bound to religion, and the belief in Ascension, where all will be taken to paradise when the time is right, to meet their makers and become the people of the heavens. The Atela disappeared 10, 000 years ago from their home planet Atel, for reasons unknown to all except for the one remaining Atela, Dez’ranze, whose existence is a Myth itself.

Appearance: EXACTLY like this, just remember no face or hair under the hood

Abilities and Skills: Dez’ranze holds many physical qualities that come with his race, as well as the many years of his life that as served as experience in many fields. He has the knowledge of many different planets due to the immense amount of traveling he has undergone, and of the animals that inhabit their climates. His hunting abilities have been refined to nigh perfection, and he almost takes it as a challenge to tackle the largest prey any world has to throw at him. He can also use his telepathic ability to talk with other people and creatures with his mind.

Equipment and Possessions: Dez’ranze is a terrible operator of technology, and therefore relies upon his inventory which he crafted all by himself, using the arts that were taught to him as a youngling. His main weapon is a double-bladed sword called Razarn, made with Atelic metal, one of the sharpest metals known in the universe, told to be able to cut through a man’s body as if it were butter, and which weapon crafters from around the solar system seek with a passion. It is enchanted so that it can never break. He also possessed throwing knives, and small daggers made with the same metal. The armour that he wears upon his arms and on the lower half of his body his mostly comprised of metal with a small amound of Atelic metal bound to the gauntlets, spaulders, and his waist. This allows him a large amount of flexibility and freedom of movement when he is stalking his prey.

Personality: Dez’ranze is mysterious, but with a kind heart and an amazing comprehension of life. He is very hard to shake, and will try to tackle any challenge in front of him, but will know when he is beaten. Despite the seclusion present throughout his life, Dez’ranze is a team player.

Motivation: Dez’ranze was never really one for politics, but he has seen enough suffering in his life to know that change needs to happen, and that good men are rarely put in places of power and can therefore never make a difference. In his mind, he believes that perhaps he must be the one to help bring about change. Not to mention the hunt must be a miraculous one.

Backstory: Dez’ranze knows that the reason his people supposedly disappeared is because the oldest elder of the Atela had a vision, upon which he spread that the word that Ascension was ready for them, and that they must all embark upon a journey that would take them to their paradise. Yet, as all members of his race were preparing to fulfil their destiny, Atela was a prisoner, for a crime most heinous… murder. Him and the other criminals were left in their prison, as all other Atela boarded a gigantic spacecraft and left for their meeting with God. Dez’ranze has long since erased the memory of what happened on his home planet at that point, but he always knows inside his head that he was the last Atela left, with suddenly no direction in life, and no family or friends to love as companions. So he travelled, and all his travels has brought him to this Contest, where he hopes that the Faceless One will change the universe forever.

  • Name: Callum Raine
  • Age: 16
  • Race: Half Human and Half Aldorian. Aldorians are by nature steeped in magic, and have a nature to them to seek magical might and capabilities. There have been quite a few unsavory Aldorians, who have decided for one reason or another to be conquerors or destroyers. They typically end up going the JRPG route in this of taking on a Bizarro Sephiroth like form after they jump the slippery slope. Hence, Aldorians nowadays have mostly withdrawn to outlying townships to pursue less dangerous knowledge, though outcasts do exist. Even most outcasts, though, mostly view their more destructive ancestors as Old Shame. Their identifying characteristic is a "third eye" on the forehead. It does not function like a real eye, and it resembles a tattoo of some sort.
  • Appearance: A very young looking Pretty Boy type, Callum has short cut blond hair, blue-green eyes, and a svelte, tall and thin appearance. He mostly wears a blue coat over a gray sleeveless shirt, black slacks and boots. Callum's third eye looks slightly faded, as a consequence of him being of only half-blood. Just as well, he wears a pair of armored gloves on his hands, which are silver in color on the armor, and otherwise made of blue fabric. It looks like he has a red spell circle painted on to his back, with the design of a six pointed star with a phoenix underneath it.
  • Abilities & Skills: Callum uses mostly powerful fire and lightning magic, deciding to specialize especially in these areas as his mainstays in combat. Due to his being a half-breed, he has the incredible magic power reserves of an Aldorian, but at a cost. He possesses an innate Aldorian Magic called Neo-Gateway, which lets him call upon a Storm of Blades made of magic energy. However, every time he uses Aldorian Magic or pushes himself beyond the human limits, he ages three years, due to him being a half-blood. It is very, very, very painful, and it looks extremely unpleasant (hint, skin looks like its boiling while its underway). His chief weakness is that his body is weak, especially after using Aldorian Magic.
  • Equipment & Possessions:
    • Arcanum: A magic book that tells him about some monster facts. It also has a mind of its own...and mostly seems to like snarking at its master's expense.
    • Lance Staff: An Aldorian Weapon, the Lance Staff resembles a dark wood weapon with metal seeming to emerge from it naturally, a long blade emerging from the top, amidst a twisting design of roots.
  • Personality: Callum is a character whose personality largely formed to be the person his father needed to claim the King's crown, and become a leader. He is personally a very friendly, personable boy who enjoys interacting with people, being as well brave and claiming to live for the sake of others. However, his sense of right and wrong is skewed heavily in the direction of simple White and Black, resulting in a slight bent toward Knight Templar, in pursuit of the values his father and mother put into him. While he claims to be not scared of using his powers, and potentially dying very young, he represses a deeply grounded fear of what would happen. While he does have a serious personality, this can lend to him being The Comically Serious, and giving Mathematician's Answer's.
    • Motivation: He wants to become King at first simply because that's what his father told him to do. He gets far better reasons later, as his character develops.
  • Backstory: Callum was born to the family of a powerful noble named Sir Regal Kalvin, who was always viewed by other nobles as a bit of an oddball - and not always in a good or funny way. Leading a carnival in his free time, Regal seems to be a Bunny-Ears Lawyer of the highest order, consistently acting silly and almost allergic to being serious, though he seems to treat everything as basically a joke, even his harsher, darker duties and acts. Callum was born to him as he took in his third wife, an Aldorian, who seems to be innocent and almost too pure. Whatever the case, they trained Callum for the King's Contest from a young age, telling him he must become an altruist in order to attain the King's crown. He has ignored the fact that since six years ago his father looks like a Bandage Mummy and is quite unnerving. His Fatal Flaw, indeed, is the fact he is a gullible young man who assumes the very best in everyone.

Stealing so many UT 2003 pics and terms it's not funny, but here I go...

  • Name: Mokara, Tamra of the Red Hand
  • Age: 12 (Chronologically, equivalent to human age of 24.)
  • Race: Mokkai (frequently, but derisively referred to as "tribals"). The mokkai are a race of reptillian humanoids. Their technology is many years behind that of most other sentient races, most of their cities being built from stone in the Tokara Forest(The human name for it is the Amazon Rainforest). Mokkai are born hunters, possessing agility far beyond what a usual human could manage and possessing heightened senses compared to them, although their lithe, thin frames are less able to withstand punishment than that of a human. Mokkai have long and fully prehensile tails that can help them balance during some of the breathtaking acrobatics they can perform and non-retractable claws on their hands and feet that can allow them to climb on any surface that is soft enough and can be used as a weapon in an emergency. The mokkai have a checkered past with humanity, including at one time a large-scale war that turned the Mokkai into a shadow of what they once were, restricting them almost entirely to the Tokara Forest as a homeland and forever prejudicing the world against their kind, although for now mokkai and humanity live an a relative peacetime. Mokkai live in clans and are highly religious, praying to the Goddess Elya. The most important part of the mokkai religion is treatment of the dead, even their prey and especially fallen comrades. The Tamra or Tamron(lead hunter, a very important person due to mokkai social structure of a clan will perform the final rites for a fallen mokkai, and they are always sent armed, to battle their way into the afterlife. Every mokkai will perform a final rite for a prey they catch, and nothing of a prey is ever wasted - skins are made into clothes, any edible meat will be eaten and even bone is fashioned into weapons and armor.
  • Appearance: If one ignores the rocket launcher... Also, her armor is not painted blue and is in fact left in it's natural colours. She stands about a foot shorter than most humans, which is actually fairly average for her kind.
  • Abilities and Skills: Even amongst the warrior mokkai, Mokara is an outstanding guerilla fighter, able to use every bit of her agility to make up for what mokkai biology and technology lacks in terms of protection. From her time as the Tamara of her clan, she has learnt to lead others into battle or a hunt.
  • Equipment and Possessions:
    • Bone Staff: Mokara's Weapon Of Choice. Despite it being wielded as a staff and a staff being it's namesake, it is in fact sharpened at one end. Mokara favours this weapon for it's versatility, it's use as both a blunt and thrusting weapon.
    • Bone Ritual Knife: Although this is not intended for use as a weapon, it certainly makes a fine one. One is carried by any Tama or Tamon(hunter)of the Mokkai, and is used to finish an ailing prey.
    • Steel Throwing Knives: One of the products of the limited trade with humanity, these blades are toughened as that they can be retrieved and re-used.
    • Bone Tamra Armor: This armor identifies Mokara's position as Tamra and bears the tribe markings of the Red Hand. As it is made out of bone, like other mokkai weapons, it offers limited protection. It also contains a sheathe on her back for her staff, one on her chest for her knife and belt for her throwing knives.
  • Personality: Mokara is deadly serious. She will not accept the leadership of any who do not outrank her by mokkai laws, and goes about anything she does, from leading the hunts in the Tokara to the Contest itself with a simple efficiency. She has no reservations about any form of "dirty play" like attacking an unaware foe and lives by the concept that there are prey and hunters - those who do not hunt being the prey.
  • Motivation: Mokara does not wish like many of her kind for the destruction of humanity. She wishes to make the tenuous peace between humanity and mokkai permanent and for her people to be more than second-class citizens when in the humans' realm. She dreams of the day where she is not brushed aside as a "Tribal".
  • Backstory: From an early age, Mokara showed potency as a hunter. First to kill, one of the fastest and most skilled in battle, she lived and breathed the hunt. Mokara not only ascended to the esteemed position of Tamra in the Red Hand, she was one of the youngest and the very first female lead hunter in any known mokkai tribe (and therefore by proxy the creator of the title "Tamra"). Mokara however was dissatisfied with the state of the mokkai race. Although they could freely travel into the human lands and back, they were jeered and treated with pure contempt, below people. Mokara set out to the Contest to change it - if a mokkai holds a high place in society, then perhaps humanity would see that mokkai were their equals, rather than their inferiors.

Well claw mentioned something about this being poorly-planned, which would be a shame if this wasn't to happen since I put some thought into Mokara. Claw, if this isn't happening please say so I can re-use Mokara?
