Hoo boy, part of the internet seems to have collectively exploded after that blue-balling move. The recap video for the halftime show on NFL's official channel, as of now, stands at 17k:95k like-to-dislike ratio.

We were on the verge of greatness we were this close

“The entire point of that scene was the set up and pay off. Squidward thinks the performance is going to be bad and embarassing, but then it isn’t. We’re in the alternate timeline where squidward was right.”

Don't know why people consider it so important. Band Geeks was a good episode but it stopped being funny to me after the first several memes.

Welp, today's the day: On this day 20 years ago SpongeBob first premiered on Nick.

It's hard to believe now that there was ever a time when Sponge Bob was not an internationally-beloved cartoon character - when he was about as popular as every other Nicktoon that wasn't Rugrats was.

But when he caught on, he caught on quick. By 2001 the show was definitely a big hit. By 2002 it was bigger than Rugrats. By 2004, when the first film came out, his place in culture was arguably secure... And even then I wouldn't have believed the show would still be around in 20 years.

I can't remember Spongebob not being huge. But it's absurd to think that the series is still going strong after 20 years. It outlived all the other Nicktoon cartoons. It's a weird thing to think about. It even had a Broadway musical.

Yeah, Spongebob might be old by now, but it still doesn't feel like a relic and has a timeless charm to it. Even though now, it really has run it's max. I really hope it's 20th birthday special is great.

Tim Conway, the voice of Barnacle Boy, has died at the age of 85.

[up]It's sad... So many people we knew and loved have died recently... RIP. I'm fearing that Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy's fates are sealed: I think they will never appear again like the earlier times.

(I apologize for any disturbances)

I thought Mermaidman and Barnacle Boy hadn't appeared on the show since Ernest Borgnine died.

It's depressing to think about Tim Conway's last years. He was nearly incapacitated from dementia and his family was fighting in court over his care. If there is a better place he ought to be there now.

The show referenced Squidward's Suicide again. I've never understood the popularity of that creepypasta.

[up][up]I never even heard of it.

Can you explain to me what's going on? Long story short and short and at the object format, please?

[up] Don't know the context of the show referencing it, but Squidward's Suicide was a Creepypasta (or scary stories shared online) about an intern at Nickelodeon who managed to catch a screening of a rather disturbing episode of SpongeBob. The episode featured Squidward having a terrible clarinet recital that puts him in massive depressive state before killing himself. Like many "lost episode" creepypastas, it featured bleeding eyes, "hyperrealistic graphics", distorted sounds and eerie silence, and images of real life crimes spliced into the episode (in this case, child murder), with the creators having no idea who the hell put them in or why.

It's one of the more well-known Creepypasta stories, but it's also ridiculed for being playing a lot of the genre cliches completely straight. If you want a dramatic reading of the tale, he's Old Man reading the tale.

What the fuck was that? No seriously, first Sans costume in Smash, then Ash wins a League, THEN Area 51 Raid sorta happened and now this?! A Creepypasta is canonically referenced in Spongebob?

2019 has been a wild ride, yo.

I’m cautiously optimistic. Sure, this show’s a dumb idea like most baby spinoffs. However, Spongebob’s getting better in terms of quality as of late.
