Does Not Illustrate: Unexpected Character

What does this have anything to do with the trope? I've been explained it's Monty Python reference, but the caption doesn't help and the picture has nothing to do with the trope.

Well I didn't expected them but it looks like they expect each other. I see no connection between the page and the picture.

I do not see this adding a lot to the page.

I say yank. I like the joke, but it's going to lead to misuse where people think it's not about odd character choices in an adaptation.

Solid Snake's reveal would be an even better example. Nobody expected him.

I see the current picture to be just fine, because nobody expected to see it when clicking on the page. It's demonstrating the trope in a postmodern ironic kind of sense.

What do you do about a picture that's supposed to not illustrate?

It's clear too many people think it's an acceptable image. Is this what you meant by Sonic fighting Mario in Brawl◊?

Edit: The problem with the current is that we can't see what franchise it's in. For all we know they are in their franchise.

I thought we'd already had a thread for this one...at any rate, I'm voting Keep Until Better Image Suggested. It would help if the caption was "NnnnnnOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition!" instead of one of the following lines from that scene.

Yeah, I'd checked...dunno why that pic seems so familiar...oh well. I added them to the page as an example.

*screeching brakes* Hoooooooooldupasec...is it me, or do we have a major clash between the description and the examples? Maybe it just needs a rewrite to make it multi-media...would that mean a TRS trip?

I feel that the description is more of an example than a description.

Actually, there was thread for it last year before it got renamed.

This from the previous thread is PERFECT. Snake is clearly of a different art style, he looks like he's revealing himself, and even Mario looks surprised. Plus, Mario is probably famous enough that most anyone would realize that this soldier-looking guy does not beling in that franchise.

Anyway, the description just needs a clean-up. It suffers from the fact that the description is written as an example, but it's NOT a purely video game trope. I don't think that needs to go to TRS, but can be handled in the Discussion.

EDIT: Whipped up a rewrite of the description in the Discussion. Thoughts?

Snake looks like he's just hit Mario with that crate he's carrying, and I'm not seeing any major art differences between them.

... he's twice Mario's height (despite Mario being in the foreground) and has actual human proportions.

Agree with . The description sounds like it's for Guest Fighter, which is a subtrope. It's too specific on video games. It should be about media in general.

I like the rewrite of the description.

Clock is set. I'm good to replace the MP pic with the Snake/Mario pic, if only to have something that actually relates to the trope.
