That didn't matter to them. All they were interested in was the franchises.

[up][up]Integration with other Fox assets such as FX, Nat Geo and Hulu have been smoother so I doubt that.

Hulu wasn't really a Fox Asset as Disney was already the largest stakeholder in Hulu before the buyout.

Chapek is the guy who decided to drop a target advertisement in the middle of a D23 Parks Panel.

I can see why the Parks community might be a bit concerned.

[up][up] That's worthy of an "erm". O__O

[up] We're not really sure, but some of us believe it's to quit on a high note, and nothing's more of a high note than buying out a whole company like Fox.

The only suspicious part is that Iger's retirement was declared to be "effective immediately" when he still had a year left on his contract, but otherwise there's no other disturbances. Guess we'll hear it all eventually.

KP made a video of the top 10 Disney sequels.

I always liked Return of Jafar, I don't care what anyone thinks. grin

I also liked the third Aladdin movie.

I liked Lion King 1 1/2, but I think it works best when viewed as an irreverent comedy based on the original, rather than an explicitly canonical part of the series.

So why do people dislike Return of Jafar so much?

I think what helped a lot was that I watched the Dutch dub, which had the same voices as the first movie, including Genie, and the Genie VA was an exellent stand-in for Robbie Williams.

I can’t speak for everyone else but I dislike Return of Jafar solely for the huge downgrade in animation quality.

Return of Jafar is really a film that either should have been released in theaters with a high quality animation with a new ending... or just embraced its TV pilot nature for the show.

The idea of Jafar getting revenge without directly killing Aladdin is an interesting, creative conflict while giving Iago some Character Development and Heel–Face Turn without changing his core personality makes it less of an Aladdin rehash and more of another story that happens to take place within the same universe.

In fact, the best sequels are always stories that happen to take place in the same world rather than original but bigger.

Tell that to the people who irrationally hate Cars 2 with a passion.

Aside from getting that frustration off my chest, I completely agree.

I question why they decided to add a spy plot to the sequel of a slice of life/sports movie.

[up][up] That's a far more tolerable criticism than the usual ones I see.

Eg. Spies suck, the gang is travelling around the world, etc.

[up] If you're wondering about the sports route, Lightning's arc was more or less completed in the first film.

He was only a rookie at that point, so skipping all the way to the end of his career just to mine a story would have been jarring.

The second movie had Lightning in his prime, but that's usually the stage in a character's life where they're least interesting.

So the second movie wisely rotated protagonists and made Mater, Lightning's best friend, as the lead character this time around.

The shift of genre to a spy movie also still keeps within the boundaries of a slice-of-life story, as Mater would obviously get into different scrapes than Lightning.

It's also worth noting that the Radiator Springs gang get more noticeable and divergent character arcs in the second movie, rather than just being Lightning's supporters (or harassers, as they were in the first movie).

Finally, as someone who dislikes the third movie, I hold the view that the second movie's tactic of rotating protagonists should have been applied again.

This time with Sally.

(The focus goes from Lightning, to his best friend, to his girlfriend. Perfect story pattern and wasted opportunity.)

Her romance with Lightning, and the culmination of their love, should have been the focus of the third movie.

Cars 2 was bad for the same reasons as Planet Sheen was.

Comedy reliefs shouldn't ever be given protagonist status. Franchises shouldn't abruptly change the setting unless it's fitting or well-done, which Cars 2 lacked due to it's abrupt shift from car racing to spy movie.

The ideas weren't bad themselves, but the film is utterly disjointed and lacks a real knowdlege of what it wants to be. Only the McQueen and Mater scenes were 100% good and only because Mater was playing off somebody else, rather than being forced into protagonist role.

Doesn't everyone know by now that Cars 2 only existed because he who must not be named wanted to make a spy movie?
